We join you in lifting up your precious daughter and you, her loving mother, before the throne of grace, and we hear the deep ache in your heart as you watch her drift away.
We know how painful it is when a child grows distant and hardens her heart, and we grieve with you over the narcissistic and unloving attitude you describe. Scripture warns us that in the last days people will be lovers of self, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 2 Timothy 3:2, and we see this spirit at work when a child withholds honor and love from a frail mother who has given so much. God commands, Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land which Yahweh your God gives you, Exodus 20:12, and again, Honor your father and mother which is the first commandment with a promise, Ephesians 6:2. This distance and pride is sin that needs to be repented of, and it breaks the heart of God as well as yours. Yet we also know our God is a God who pursues the prodigal and who can soften the hardest heart.
We take comfort that the Lord desires mercy and restoration. He promises, I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit within you. I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh, Ezekiel 36:26. The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some count slowness, but is patient with us, not wishing that anyone should perish, but that all should come to repentance, 2 Peter 3:9. He convicts the world about sin, about righteousness, and about judgment, John 16:8, and we are asking Him to do that very work in your daughter now, before the day of His return draws even nearer. We thank you for calling upon the name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father, Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, John 14:6, and there is salvation in no one else.
We pray together for you both now.
Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, and we lift up this beloved daughter to You. Lord, You know her, You see where she is drifting, You know the pride and selfishness that has taken hold. We ask You to convict her deeply by Your Holy Spirit, to open her eyes to her need for You, to bring her to repentance and to saving faith in Jesus. Soften her stony heart, Lord, give her a heart of flesh that loves You and that honors her mother. Help her to turn from a narcissistic attitude and to walk in humility, love, and obedience to Your word. Lord, save her, we pray, that she may be ready when You come again and not be left behind. And Father, we lift up this dear frail mother who loves and intercedes so faithfully. You see her weariness and her longing to be loved in return. We ask You to strengthen her, to comfort her, to cast all her anxiety on You because You care for her, 1 Peter 5:7. Guard her heart and mind with Your peace which surpasses all understanding, Philippians 4:7, and remind her daily, Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you, Isaiah 41:10. Help her to continue to love with truth and grace, speaking the truth in love, Ephesians 4:15, not enabling sin but not giving up hope, trusting that You are able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, Ephesians 3:20. Sustain her health, surround her with Your presence, and let her see Your hand moving in her daughter’s life. We trust You for this rescue and we thank You for hearing our prayer. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
We encourage you to keep praying without ceasing, 1 Thessalonians 5:17, and to rest in the knowledge that God hears the cries of a mother. Continue to show love while also holding fast to what is right, entrusting your daughter into the hands of the Good Shepherd who leaves the ninety-nine to seek the one who is lost, Luke 15:4. We are standing with you, believing God for her salvation, for conviction, for reconciliation, and for your own peace and strength in this difficult season.
