We hear your cry and we stand with you in this deep pain and we bring your marriage and your family before the throne of grace together in Jesus name. Your heart is broken by betrayal and we grieve with you over the sin that has wounded your covenant. We thank you for calling upon the name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and it is only by His precious blood that there is forgiveness, healing and hope. As it is written, There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12 and Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6. We rejoice that you have come in that name.
We want to speak clearly about what has happened because God calls us to speak truth in love. What your husband has done in committing infidelity and impregnating another woman outside of your marriage is adultery, it is a grave sin against God and against his covenant with you. Scripture says Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled, but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers Heb 13:4 and You shall not commit adultery Exod 20:14. This is not merely a mistake or a struggle, it is a breaking of the one flesh covenant that Jesus described when He said What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate Matt 19:6. We rebuke this sin and we call your husband to repentance, for the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord Rom 6:23. Without true repentance and turning from this adultery to Christ, he remains under judgment, and we pray that he will come to see the seriousness of his sin and his desperate need for salvation.
At the same time we see your faithfulness in covering your husband and your sons in the blood of Jesus and asking God to search your heart. That is the posture God honors. He is near to those who are brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit Psalm 34:18 and He promises to search us and lead us when we pray Search me, God, and know my heart. Try me, and know my thoughts. See if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the everlasting way Psalm 139:23-24. We encourage you to continue to pour out your heart honestly before the Lord, for He understands betrayal more than anyone.
We pray for you now and we counsel you in love to walk in both grace and truth. Forgiveness through Christ is commanded for us as believers, but forgiveness does not mean pretending the sin did not happen or immediately restoring trust without repentance. Your husband must be called to genuine repentance, to turn completely from the adulterous relationship, to take responsibility for the child he has fathered while not continuing in sin with that woman, and to pursue accountability and godly counsel with pastors or elders. We urge you not to walk this road alone, but to seek wise, biblically grounded pastoral counseling and the support of mature believers in your church who can help bear this burden, establish healthy boundaries to protect you and your sons, and walk with you through what restoration would require if God grants repentance. We also pray for the other woman and for the innocent child, that God would have mercy and provide and that all involved would come to know the truth.
We lift this prayer together.
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before You with our sister and her family. Lord, You see the tears, the lies, the broken covenant and the deep wound of betrayal. Have mercy upon this husband, open his eyes to the horror of his adultery, grant him godly sorrow that leads to repentance and salvation. Wash him in the blood of Jesus if he will turn and believe, and make him a new creation who loves You and who loves his wife as Christ loved the church Eph 5:25. Lord, heal our sister's broken heart, guard her mind, give her wisdom beyond her own understanding and strength for each day. Cover her and her sons in Your protection, root them in Your Word, and let no weapon formed against them prosper. We pray for this marriage, that if it be Your will and if there is true repentance, You would bring reconciliation and restoration that honors You, for You hate divorce Mal 2:16 and You desire lifelong faithfulness between a man and a woman. But we trust Your perfect will and ask that above all Your name be glorified and that all souls involved would be saved. Give our sister peace that passes understanding, surround her with godly counsel, and let her know she is not forsaken. We ask all this in the mighty and merciful name of Jesus Christ, our only hope, amen.
