Disciple of Prayer
I got a call from my a best friend this morning who I served with in the army, he had his pistol in his lap and was ready to take his life, my brother is under heavy demonic oppression, he was saying it’s an urge he doesn’t know why but he needs to do it. I was able to talk him out of it and I’m so blessed he called me but he needs more than just my prayers, please send prayers his way, he’s a believer in Jesus but he believed too much of the devils lies.

We thank you for being a faithful brother and battle buddy who answered that call and stood in the gap when your friend needed you most. We praise God that he reached out to you and that you were able to talk him through that dark moment. That phone call was no accident, it was the mercy of God keeping him alive, and we join with you now to contend for his life, his mind, and his soul in Jesus name.

We hear how heavy this is. What your friend described as an urge he does not understand and cannot explain is not from the Lord. The enemy is a liar and a murderer from the beginning, and he whispers hopelessness and worthlessness to those who belong to Christ in order to steal, kill and destroy. But Jesus came that we may have life and have it abundantly, John 10:10. Our brother is under heavy demonic oppression and believing the devil's lies, and we must rebuke those lies with truth. Suicide is never the will of God, because every life is created in the image of God and has purpose. The Lord says in Jeremiah 29:11, For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future. And we are told in Psalm 34:18, Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit.

We also know the battle is spiritual and mental, and Scripture tells us the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before God to the throwing down of strongholds, 2 Corinthians 10:4. We are to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ, 2 Corinthians 10:5, and to resist the devil and he will flee from us, James 4:7. Greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world, 1 John 4:4. Your friend who trusts in Jesus already has the Holy Spirit within him and has authority in Christ to reject those tormenting urges, but he cannot fight alone in isolation.

We are praying and we urge you to help him get immediate and ongoing help. Please do not leave him alone. Help him remove the pistol and any other means from his home and stay with him or ensure another trusted believer, family member, or battle buddy stays with him. Encourage him to reach out right now for professional and pastoral help, including his pastor, a biblical counselor, and the Veterans Crisis Line by dialing 988 and pressing 1, or texting 838255, and going with him to the emergency room or VA if needed. This is not a lack of faith, it is wisdom to use the help God provides. We also encourage you to keep checking on him daily, to keep him in the Word and in fellowship, and to put on the full armor of God with him, Ephesians 6:11.

We pray together for him now.

Father in heaven, we come before Your throne in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and our only access to You. We thank You for sparing our brother's life today and for the love You showed through his friend who answered the call. Lord, we lift this precious veteran to You, Your son who served his country and who now is weary and oppressed. We ask You to surround him with Your presence, to heal his broken heart and bind up his wounds, Psalm 147:3. Cast all his anxiety on You because You care for him, 1 Peter 5:7. Let him feel Your nearness tonight and know that nothing can separate him from Your love in Christ Jesus our Lord, Romans 8:38-39.

In Jesus name we rebuke the spirit of death, despair, and every lie of the enemy that tells him he is without hope or without value. We command those oppressive thoughts to leave and we speak the truth of Your Word over him, that he is fearfully and wonderfully made, Psalm 139:14, that he is more than a conqueror through Him who loved him, Romans 8:37, and that You will never leave him nor forsake him, Hebrews 13:5. Fill his mind with Your peace which surpasses all understanding, Philippians 4:7, and lead him when his heart is overwhelmed to the rock that is higher than he, Psalm 61:2. Give him strength to resist the devil, to cry out to You, and to walk in the light with brothers who will bear his burden.

We also pray for you, his friend, who carried this heavy burden today. Strengthen you, give you wisdom, rest, and counsel as you continue to stand with him. Remind you both that where two or three are gathered in Jesus name, He is there, Matthew 18:20. Raise up godly men around him for long term discipleship, trauma counseling, and spiritual support. Restore to him joy, purpose, and hope for the future, and use his testimony to help other veterans who suffer in silence.

We trust You to complete the good work You began in him and to keep him. We ask all this in the saving and delivering name of Jesus Christ, amen.

We are holding you and your friend in prayer after such a frightening call, and we want to make sure he is safe right now. If he is still in immediate danger or still has his pistol nearby, please contact your local emergency services right now. For free, confidential support for him or for you, you can find a helpline in your country at findahelpline.com. You are not alone and trained people are ready to help right now.

We are so grateful he reached out to you and that you stayed on the phone and talked with him. That took courage and love as his friend and fellow soldier, and it mattered more than you know. It is understandable to feel blessed he called and also heavy carrying what you heard.

He will need ongoing care beyond one conversation, and you do not have to carry this alone. If you can, help make sure he is not alone tonight and help him connect soon with someone nearby he trusts, his pastor, a counselor or medical professional, or veteran support if that is available to him. Encourage him to seek professional help promptly alongside prayer, and keep checking in with him in the days ahead. When possible and with his permission, it helps to let someone close to him or family know so support does not rest only on you.

Please also care for yourself after this. Talk with someone you trust about what you have carried today.

Father, we lift this dear brother to You in Jesus name. Surround him with Your presence, guard his life tonight, quiet the lies pressing on him and remind him he is deeply loved and not alone. Give him and his friend wisdom, protection and steady help in the days ahead, and lead them to caring support. Amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

We have heard your heavy burden and we thank God that your friend called you and that you were given grace to speak with him in that dark hour. The Lord kept his hand in that moment, and we do not take that mercy lightly. You did well to stay with him and to turn his ear away from the liar.

Your brother is wearied in the length of his way and beset by oppression of spirit, and the enemy has whispered to him that there is no hope. That arrow is often shot at the children of God, to make them believe that the pit is inevitable and that to go down into it is the only release. But Scripture tells us there is a hope which stands when all hope in ourselves is gone. There is no hope for us in ourselves, but there is hope for us in Him whom God has provided to be the Saviour of such as we are. When a soul feels it is going down to the pit, God has an answer, Deliver him from going down to the pit, I have found a ransom. That ransom is the precious blood of the Lamb slain, and without the shedding of blood there is no remission, yet with it there is full deliverance.

We are taught that our God delivers from the power of darkness. Darkness has in it a terrible power to confuse and to embolden the lies of the evil one, but Christ has wrought a greater salvation and has delivered us from worse enemies than any that beset the body or mind. He has delivered us from the guilt and the fascinating power of sin, and that deliverance is the work of God alone, to whom we must look altogether and alone for justification and for sanctification. The urge your friend felt, that he must do it and knows not why, is not the voice of truth. The devil is a liar from the beginning, and Christ is the truth. Your friend, though a believer in Jesus, has believed too much of those lies in this hour of bruising of the flesh and oppression of the spirit, and he needs to hear again the faithful word of God, that he shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.

We will pray earnestly for him, and we urge you to see that he is cared for in body and soul without delay. Do not leave him alone. Help him to put any weapon or means of harm out of his reach and out of his house, and stay with him or see that a trusted person stays with him. Bring his pastor and his family near to him at once, and help him to seek care from a doctor or counselor who can walk with him in the days to come. If he is in immediate danger, call for emergency help at once, and in the United States you may call or text 988 and press 1 for the Veterans Crisis Line, or text 838255, or call 911. The ministry that God sends will be a ministry of warning to the ungodly, but a ministry of consolation to those who sorrow and seek deliverance, and God will not suffer the groaning that arises from the heart in the name of Jesus to be as the whispering of the wind. He hears and He delivers in His time.

Let us pray together. O Lord God of mercy, who has found a ransom for sinners and who brings forth thy people from Egypt and from the pit, look with tender pity upon this soldier, thy servant, who is sorely oppressed and wearied. Rebuke the power of darkness that lies upon him, silence the lies of the adversary, and lift upon him the light of thy countenance. Give him to see his interest in Christ and to cast himself wholly upon Him who bore our sorrows. Preserve his life, restore to him a good hope through thy grace, and grant him to live and to declare thy works. Hold him fast and hold his friend also, who has borne this burden, and give wisdom, strength, and faithful helpers to surround him. We ask this for the sake of Jesus Christ our only Saviour, in whose name is all our hope. Amen.

Continue to go to him, continue to point him to Christ, and continue to call upon the Lord with him. If we had no troubles we would have less to declare, but when the Lord delivers, the delivered soul has a song to sing of greater mercy. We are praying that this brother may yet sing of deliverance vouchsafed to him, and that you may be comforted as you comfort him.

Thank you for sharing this burden and for stepping in with such love and courage when your friend called. What you did in staying on the phone and talking with him mattered deeply, and we are grateful that he reached out to you. We will join you in praying for him, and we also want to encourage you to help him stay connected to steady, ongoing support right now.

We are praying for your friend, that God would lift this heavy oppression and silence the lies that are telling him his life should end. Scripture teaches that Christ came for two great purposes, to deliver us from evil and to bring us into sonship, so that we might receive the Spirit of adoption and know we are children of God. That is the truth that stands against every lie of the enemy. Even when a person feels driven by an urge he cannot explain, God sees him, knows his struggle, and is able to rescue and to heal.

Like the woman who quietly came behind Jesus to touch the hem of his garment, your friend can come to Christ just as he is, even in weakness and fear, trusting that Jesus welcomes sinners and is able to make whole. We pray that he will experience that nearness of Christ, that he will find hope not as a distant wish but as a present rejoicing, holding fast to the promises God has given. The Scriptures are given to nerve and comfort us, to produce patience in trial and hope that sustains us through inner and outer conflicts.

We pray now for him, and we invite you to pray with us. Father in heaven, we thank you that you are our deliverer and our Father through Jesus Christ, your Son. We ask in the name of Jesus for our brother who is under such darkness. Place your hand upon him, guard his mind and heart, and drive away every oppressive lie. Let him hear your voice above all other voices, reminding him that he is your child, loved, not forsaken, and that his life is precious to you. Fill him with your Spirit, give him hope and patience to endure this hour, and bring to him the comfort of your Word. Surround him with people who will walk with him, and lead him to the help he needs. Keep him safe and draw him into deeper trust in Christ, in whom alone is salvation and life. Amen.

Please do not carry this alone and please help your friend not to remain alone. Encourage him to stay with trusted people, to let his pastor know, and to reach out for professional care right away. If he has means to harm himself nearby, help him to remove them and to stay with someone. If you are in the United States you can call or text ### to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, or help him call, and if he is in immediate danger please contact emergency services or go with him to an emergency department. A counselor, pastor, or trusted medical provider can also help create a plan for ongoing care.

Continue to check in with him, listen without judgment, remind him of the hope we have in Christ, and read Scripture with him when he is willing. Psalm ###, Psalm ###, and Romans ### speak of God as refuge and of our adoption as sons. Your faithful friendship is a reflection of Christ's care, and we are praying for you as well, for strength, wisdom, and peace as you support him. Please keep letting others in your church family know so they can stand with both of you in prayer and practical help.
