Please pray for my friend whose parents are getting a divorce

Disciple of Prayer
Hi, please pray for my friend, ###. His parents are getting a divorce. He is not close with his father and his mom got a boyfriend, causing a shift in their relationship. I remember that there’s this chapter in the Bible that Jesus healed a man because of the faith of his friends. I know that nothing is impossible for God. He can restore his parents’ marriage, if God is willing. Please pray that whatever God’s plan is for his family, that my friend will be made whole. Please pray that He’ll find the Lord, that he won’t rely on substance abuse or porn to escape life. He’s also financially struggling. He has debts and I cannot help him financially because I too don’t have money. Please pray for his finances too. Please pray that God would speak life to him and restore his broken identity, broken faith, and broken understanding about marriage, family, and life. Thank you very much.

We lift up your dear friend and his family before the throne of grace, asking the Lord to move mightily in their lives. The pain of divorce is deep, and the shifting dynamics in his family are undoubtedly causing him great distress. We stand on the promise that Jesus does indeed heal and restore, even when the situation seems impossible, for with God, all things are possible (Matthew 19:26). We pray for the restoration of his parents’ marriage, if it aligns with God’s will, and that they would both turn their hearts toward Him and seek His wisdom in this difficult season.

The Bible tells us that marriage is a sacred covenant, designed by God to reflect His love and faithfulness. It is meant to be a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman, as the Lord says, "For this cause a man shall leave his father and mother, and shall be joined to his wife. The two shall become one flesh" (Matthew 19:5). We rebuke the spirit of division and unfaithfulness that has entered this family, and we pray that both parents would seek repentance and reconciliation, not just for their sake, but for the sake of their son and for the glory of God. The introduction of a boyfriend into this situation is not in alignment with God’s design for marriage and family. We pray that the mother would turn away from this relationship and seek the Lord’s guidance, understanding that her choices impact her son deeply.

We are deeply concerned about your friend’s struggle with substance abuse and pornography. These are not merely bad habits—they are sinful strongholds that separate him from God’s best for his life. The Bible warns us, "Do not be deceived. Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor male prostitutes, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor slanderers, nor extortionists will inherit God’s Kingdom" (1 Corinthians 6:9-10). We rebuke these behaviors in the name of Jesus and pray that your friend would turn away from them, seeking the Lord’s forgiveness and the power of the Holy Spirit to break free. We declare that he is not defined by his struggles but by the blood of Christ, which cleanses him from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).

Financial struggles can feel overwhelming, but we serve a God who owns the cattle on a thousand hills (Psalm 50:10) and who promises to supply all our needs according to His riches in glory (Philippians 4:19). We pray that your friend would seek the Lord’s provision, not just for his debts, but for wisdom in managing his finances. May he learn to trust God as his provider and find contentment in Him, rather than in the temporary relief of worldly solutions.

Above all, we pray that your friend would come to know the Lord in a personal and saving way. It is only through Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father, and there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). We pray that he would hear the gospel clearly—that Jesus died for his sins, was buried, and rose again on the third day, so that whoever believes in Him would not perish but have everlasting life (1 Corinthians 15:3-4, John 3:16). May the Holy Spirit draw him close, breaking the chains of brokenness and despair, and replacing them with the hope and identity found only in Christ.

We also pray for you, dear one, as you stand in the gap for your friend. It is a beautiful act of love to intercede on his behalf, just as the friends in the Bible brought the paralyzed man to Jesus (Mark 2:1-12). May the Lord strengthen you and fill you with His peace as you continue to pray and speak life into his situation.

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this young man and his family. Lord, we ask that You would move in power, softening hearts and drawing each of them to repentance and faith. We pray for restoration—of marriage, of faith, of identity, and of hope. Break the chains of addiction, financial bondage, and sin, and replace them with Your freedom and provision. Father, we ask that You would reveal Yourself to this young man in a personal and transformative way. Let him know that he is Your beloved child, created for a purpose, and that his worth is found in You alone. Surround him with godly influences, and give him the strength to turn away from the things that are harming him. Lord, we trust in Your perfect plan, even when we cannot see the way forward. May Your will be done in this family, and may Your name be glorified. In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

We're right there with you, praying for your friend and his family. We've been thinking about that verse in Matthew 19:26, "With God all things are possible." We claim that promise for your friend's situation. We're asking God to heal the brokenness in his family, to restore his parents' marriage if it's His will, and to bring them all closer to Him.

We're also praying for your friend's personal struggles. We're asking God to give him the strength to overcome his substance abuse and pornography issues. We're claiming 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 for him, that he would turn away from these things and find freedom in Christ.

Finances can be a heavy burden, but we're trusting God to provide for your friend's needs. We're praying that he would seek God's wisdom in managing his finances and find contentment in Him.

Most importantly, we're praying for your friend to come to know Jesus personally. We're asking God to draw him close, to reveal Himself to him, and to give him the hope and identity that only Christ can provide.

We're also praying for you, dear one, as you stand in the gap for your friend. May God strengthen and fill you with His peace as you continue to intercede on his behalf.

In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
