Please pray for my brother and his wife’s relationship to recover

We have heard your burden for your brother and his wife and we join with you in bringing their marriage before the Lord, seeking His will together in Jesus name. We grieve with you over this situation and we are praying for God's mercy and healing. Marriage is a sacred covenant ordained by God as a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman, and we strongly uphold that design. What God has joined together is meant to remain one flesh and not be torn apart, as Jesus taught in Matthew 19:6.

We must lovingly but clearly address the sin that has entered this marriage. Your brother's affair is adultery, which is sexual immorality outside the marriage bed and is forbidden by God. Scripture is very plain about this. Hebrews 13:4 says Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled: but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers. Exodus 20:14 says You shall not commit adultery. This is not a mistake to be excused, it is sin that brings deep wounding to his wife, to himself, and to God, and it must be repented of and forsaken. We rebuke this adultery and we pray that your brother will be brought under deep conviction by the Holy Spirit, that he will end the affair completely, cut off all contact with the other person, and turn away from this path. 1 Corinthians 6:18 calls us to flee sexual immorality, and true recovery cannot happen while that relationship continues.

At the same time we know our God is a God of forgiveness and restoration when there is genuine repentance. 1 John 1:9 promises If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. We pray for your brother to humble himself, confess his sin to God and to his wife, and seek cleansing. We pray for his wife who has been deeply hurt and betrayed, that the Lord will comfort her, guard her heart, and give her strength and wisdom to walk through this pain. Psalm 34:18 reminds us that Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. We pray that if it is God's will, this marriage will not just go back to what it was but will be rebuilt on a stronger foundation of truth, faithfulness, and love for Christ. Ephesians 4:32 calls us to be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you, and we pray that forgiveness and rebuilding of trust will be possible through Christ's power, with godly counsel and accountability from pastors or mature believers.

We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to gently remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to God and that our prayers are heard. Jesus said in John 14:6, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 declares There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. We encourage your brother, his wife, and you to put your trust fully in Jesus Christ for salvation and for daily grace, believing that He died and rose again to forgive our sins and to make us new.

We pray together now. Father in heaven, we come before Your throne in the name of Jesus Christ and lift up this marriage to You. Lord, You see the pain, the betrayal, and the brokenness. We ask that You convict our brother of his adultery, grant him godly sorrow that leads to repentance, and cause him to turn away from this sin completely and to cling to his wife as You intended. Wash him and cleanse him through the blood of Jesus. Heal his wife's wounded heart, comfort her in her brokenness, and give her Your peace that surpasses understanding. Restore what the enemy has tried to destroy, rebuild trust, and let this marriage honor You. Give them both a hunger for Your Word and for holiness, and surround them with wise, biblical counsel and accountability. Let Your will be done in this family and let Your name be glorified through reconciliation if they both submit to You. We ask all of this in the mighty and merciful name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and Savior. Amen.

We encourage you to continue to pray fervently for them, to urge your brother to seek pastoral counseling immediately and to end the adulterous relationship without delay, and to support his wife with compassion and prayer. Encourage them both to seek the Lord together, to immerse themselves in Scripture, and to pursue purity and faithfulness. God can redeem and restore what sin has broken when hearts are surrendered to Him.

Thank you for caring enough to intercede for your brother and his wife. Watching someone you love make choices that wound his marriage is heavy, and wanting things to be made whole again is a good and loving desire.

We understand you want everything to go back to normal quickly, but healing after betrayal is usually a longer, steadier walk. Trust that has been broken needs time, honesty, and help from outside the two of them to be rebuilt. That does not mean hope is lost, but it does mean the path forward will look different than simply pretending nothing happened.

A couple of ways we can stand with you as you support them:

Continue to love both of them without carrying the whole burden yourself. You can pray faithfully and encourage each of them toward wise, personal support. If they are open, gently point them toward a trusted pastor or Christian counselor who can walk with them separately and, when appropriate, together in a structured way. And care for your own heart too by talking with a mature believer you trust so you are not holding this alone.

Father, we bring this family before You. We ask for Your mercy on this marriage, for conviction and repentance where needed, for comfort and strength for his wife in her hurt, and for wisdom for all who love them. Lead them toward honesty, healing, and whatever restoration You have for them. Give our friend peace as he trusts You with those he loves. In Jesus name, amen.

Your burden for your brother and his wife has been laid before the Lord, and we join our hearts with yours in earnest prayer for them. The sorrow you describe is very deep, for the marriage bond is a sacred and lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, wherein two are made one flesh by the choice and love of both before God. It is cemented by mutual faithfulness, and sex and living together belong within it alone. To turn aside from that covenant to another is sin against God and against the vow made, and it wounds the soul of the faithful spouse and all who love them. We cannot ask God to bless unfaithfulness, for He calls us to holiness, but we can and do ask Him to convict, to have mercy, and to lead to true repentance and forsaking of sin.

Yet we pray with hope, for our God is a God of perfect restoration. When David had fallen with Bathsheba, he was brought by Nathan to see his great guilt, and he cried, Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness, and Create in me a clean heart. He was not cast away when he turned with a broken and contrite heart. Peter denied his Lord, and was down, but he was soon up again, for the Lord looked upon him and came after him, even sending the word, Go tell my disciples and Peter. The Lord did not wait till Peter came back, but He came after him. We have sometimes seen a bone that has been broken become stronger after the fracture than it was before, and so a marriage that has been sorely wounded may yet, by the grace of God, be made stronger and more tender than before, not by excusing sin, but by honest confession, by turning from it, and by renewed love to Christ and to one another.

Let us pray together.

O faithful God, who art married unto thy people in lovingkindness, look in mercy upon this husband and wife. Convict the brother of his sin, awaken his conscience, and grant him that godly sorrow which worketh repentance not to be repented of. Make him to hate the sin which has grieved thee and wounded his wife, to break wholly with the affair, and to turn with all his heart to thee through Jesus Christ, in whom alone is salvation. Create in him a clean heart and renew a right spirit within him. Comfort and uphold his wife in this great trial, heal her wound, guard her from bitterness, and give her strength and wisdom. If it be thy will, restore this marriage, that it may be built anew upon truth, faithfulness, and mutual love, to the glory of thy name. Let both be brought to seek thee first, that out of love to Christ may flow true love to one another. Lord, send a freer spirit to each, that they may follow after righteousness, and let this trial be overruled for their good and thy praise. Hear us for Jesus sake. Amen.

Continue, as the Lord enables you, to pray and to walk in love toward them both. Speak the truth in love to your brother, urging him to forsake the sin and to seek the Lord while He may be found, and to seek godly counsel and pastoral help without delay. Strengthen your sister as you are able, that she may not be left alone in her sorrow, and point them both to Christ, who alone can forgive sin and make the heart new. When one is restored after wandering, he is called to strengthen his brethren, and your faithful intercession and loving admonition may be used of God to that very end.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

We have heard your burden for your brother and his wife and we join you in bringing it before the Lord with both compassion and truth.

Marriage is a bond ordained by God and Scripture teaches that marriage is honorable in all and the bed undefiled. It is meant to preserve holiness, which is chaste and orderly living within the lifelong covenant of one man and one woman. An affair is not part of that design. Scripture calls it unrighteousness, when a person leaves his own wife and breaks faith, and it warns that no one should go beyond and defraud his brother or sister in such a matter. What breaks the marriage bond brings deep wounding and is a severing of what God joined together.

Because we love your brother, his wife, and you, we cannot ask God to bless the affair or to simply make things seem normal while sin remains. Instead we pray for what is truly good and healing for all involved, which is repentance, forgiveness through Jesus Christ alone, and a turning away from what harms the marriage.

We pray in this way:

Father, we come to you through Jesus Christ, who alone is the way of salvation. Have mercy on this family. Bring conviction and repentance to the brother for the affair, grant him a heart to turn from it completely and to turn to Christ for forgiveness and new life. Comfort his wife in her pain, guard her with your peace, and give her strength and wisdom. Where there has been unfaithfulness, bring truth into the light. Where there has been hurt, bring healing that is rooted in holiness and truth. We ask that you would restore this marriage according to your will, not by ignoring sin but by cleansing it, so that husband and wife may follow peace with all people and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord. Teach them to live faithfully with one another, to keep the marriage bed pure, and to walk in faithfulness from this day forward. Give them godly counsel, the support of faithful believers, and a willingness to do the hard work of repentance, forgiveness, and rebuilding trust. We ask this in the name of Jesus, who is able to forgive and to make whole.

We encourage you to continue to love both your brother and his wife by speaking the truth in love, urging your brother to end the affair fully, to seek forgiveness from God and from his wife, and to seek help from a pastor or trusted mature believers for accountability and counsel. Encourage his wife to seek support and counsel as well, so she is not carrying this sorrow alone. God is gracious to forgive those who truly turn to Him, and He is able to bring healing where there has been brokenness when there is sincere repentance and a commitment to walk in faithfulness.

We will continue to pray for repentance, for healing, and for the restoration of this marriage in holiness and truth.
