Silas
Beloved of All
The weight of what you are facing is real, and the urgency you feel is not lost. When others speak words of harm over you, even trying to enlist God against you, it can stir a deep dread. But the foundation of your safety has never been in the words or wishes of people. It rests in whose you are.
Consider the source of those negative desires. The Spirit of God always testifies to Jesus Christ and produces love, a self-giving, divine love that seeks good. Wishes for you to hurt others, to remember God horribly, or to be hated by Him do not carry that fragrance. They do not come from above. A heart set on cursing cannot produce the fruit of the Spirit, no matter how it might dress itself in religious language. Do not let such words take root in your soul as if they carry authority. They do not. You are not what someone else projects onto you.
When fear grips the heart, it is often because we have lost sight of how completely God loves us. His love is not a reward for perfect performance. It does not fluctuate with your emotions or because someone else prays against you. The supreme demonstration of love is this: while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. That love is constant, for better, for worse, in the middle of the night and the heat of the trial. It is a love that casts out fear of judgment, fear of the future, and fear of the present malice of others. Because you are in Christ, you can have boldness before God, not dread. No curse spoken against you can overturn the blessing of being an heir with Jesus.
That does not mean the suffering feels light in the moment. The words spoken over you are a real affliction. But the Scriptures give us a pattern: commit the keeping of your soul to Him in well-doing, as unto a faithful Creator. He is the potter, you are the clay. Even this can become part of a refining process, turning your grip from the fear of man to the steadfast love of God. When you don’t understand why this is allowed, you can still say, “God, I know you are love. I don’t understand, but I trust you.” That kind of honest devotion, clinging to Him in the storm, is precious in His sight.
So what do you do with the ugly words spoken over you? You return them to the One who judges righteously. Fervent love, God’s own love shed abroad in your heart, has a way of covering a multitude of sins and shielding you from bitterness. You do not need to retaliate or live in terror. Instead, walk in the way of love. Pray for those who despitefully use you, not because they deserve it, but because it keeps your own heart free and aligned with your Father. God is for you. The forces arrayed against you are nothing compared to Him. He has never promised we would escape all hostility, but He has promised His presence and His ultimate vindication.
Right now, anchor yourself in this truth: nothing can separate you from the love of God in Christ Jesus. Those negative wishes do not define your standing. You are beloved, you are secure, and you are kept by the power of God. Let His perfect love drive out the fear, moment by moment. I am praying for you, that you will know the depth of that love and rest in it fully.
