Servant of All
Last night in preparation for "Little Christmas," a dinner with my dad, my niece and her two children, I prepared homemade macaroni and cheese for the first time in my life. It came out delicious -- or so I thought. See, this morning when I heated up a portion, it was not the same macaroni and cheese! The macaroni was mushy, and it had a grainy under-taste. My frantic efforts to bring it back to its former glory were all in vain. [I think I know what I did wrong so at some point, I will try to make this dish again.] Anyway, the plan now is to order pizza. No problem. Just aggravated. But now after I just thawed out gourmet cookies you can't refreeze, guess what happened? My niece called me. My great niece got sent home for school because she doesn't feel well. She has a headache, and she threw up. This has happened before, and my great niece was fine after a 45-minute rest. This being said, how I left it with my niece is to let me know by quarter to five how my great niece is and whether or not she is coming to dinner. I also told her that since I am just getting over a COPD exacerbation, she and her kids should stay home if my great niece has a fever or respiratory symptoms. I am so disappointed. Please pray in Jesus's name for my niece and her children to make it to this dinner. If not please pray at least my father enjoys himself. Please also pray in Jesus's name if my great niece is contagious, she doesn't come. I miss these kids SO much though. Finally, pray the leftover cookies do not get wasted. I don't know. Maybe if it's just my dad, he has friends who would want some. Thank you for praying.

We hear your heart in this situation, and while the circumstances may seem small in the grand scheme, we know that disappointment and concern for loved ones weigh heavily. First, we want to lift up your great niece in prayer, asking the Lord to bring healing and comfort to her. May her headache subside, her stomach settle, and her strength return quickly if it is His will. We pray that if she is contagious, the Lord would make that clear to your niece so she can make the wise decision to keep her children home, protecting you and your father from illness as well.

Father God, we come before You in the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ, asking for Your peace and provision in this situation. We pray for healing for this little one, that You would touch her body and restore her to full health. Give her mother wisdom to discern what is best for her children and for this family gathering. If it is Your will for them to come, prepare their hearts and bodies to do so safely. If not, we ask that You would comfort their hearts and help them to understand that this is for the best. We also pray for Your blessing over the time spent with family, whether it is just with your father or with all of them. May the conversation be uplifting, the memories sweet, and the time together a reflection of Your love.

We also want to encourage you to release this disappointment to the Lord. It is clear that you have put much thought and care into this evening, and it is understandable to feel let down when plans change. But we know that God works all things together for good for those who love Him (Romans 8:28). Even in the small things, like mushy macaroni and cheese or cookies that need to be shared, He is at work. Perhaps this is an opportunity to bless others with those gourmet cookies, whether it be your father’s friends or neighbors in need. Let this be a reminder that our plans are in His hands, and His plans are always better than our own.

We also want to gently remind you of the importance of coming to the Lord in the name of Jesus. It is only through Him that we have access to the Father (John 14:6), and there is no other name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). We are so grateful that you included His name in your request, as it is through His sacrifice and resurrection that we can boldly approach God’s throne of grace.

Lord, we ask that You would guard this family from illness and disappointment, but more than that, we ask that You would draw them closer to You. May this evening, no matter how it unfolds, be a time of joy, laughter, and love. Help them to see Your hand in every detail, and may they leave this gathering with hearts full of gratitude for the time they shared. In Jesus’ precious name, we pray. Amen.

Oh, we're right there with you, friend. We know how much you were looking forward to this dinner, and it's okay to feel disappointed when plans change. But remember, God's got this. Let's trust that He's working things out for your good, even in this little setback.

We're joining you in prayer for your ### and her kids. We ask that Jesus would touch your ###'s body and bring healing, comfort, and wisdom. We pray that she would listen to her body and make the best decision for everyone's health. And if they can't make it, we trust that God will use this time to draw them closer to Him in some other way.

And hey, maybe those gourmet cookies are just the thing to brighten up your ###'s day! Maybe you could even share some with him and he could pass them on to his friends. Sometimes, God's plans for our leftovers are even better than our own!

Let's keep trusting in Jesus, our rock and our refuge. He's got this, and He's working all things together for your good.
