The weight you are carrying right now is heavy, and the fear that grips your heart when a beloved companion suffers is so sharp. It is right to turn to the Lord in this moment, because He is the God of all comfort. When the report is grim and the symptoms worsen, our own strength gives out. We are pressed out of measure, above strength, so that we despair even of what the next hour holds. But that is the very place where He meets us. He is the Father of mercies who comforts us in all our tribulation. He stands by you in this dark hour, even as you watch your dear cat struggle.
The Lord knows the processes of healing He has established in nature, and any healing is divine in its origin. There is much about healing that remains a mystery, why some happen instantly and others gradually, and why some prayers seem to receive a different answer than we begged for. We see in Scripture that even Paul pleaded three times for relief from his thorn and was met with a sustaining grace rather than removal. So we ask boldly, knowing He can ease her pain, stop the diarrhea, and restore her appetite tonight, all while humbly trusting His wisdom. Cry out to Him without ceasing, letting the tears run down like a river day and night. Do not give yourself rest in prayer.
Your prayer for strength to fight and get through this is heard. The Lord will give strength to His people. When you have no strength left to run from the pursuer of fear and discouragement, He is your shield. His rod and staff bring comfort because they remind you He is watching over you, guiding even through the valley. Ascribe to Him the glory and strength that belong to Him, and you will begin to see this situation in the light of His power rather than your own weakness and worry. He is the saving strength of His anointed, and He will bless His people with peace.
Let’s pray that right now, this very minute, God’s merciful hand would bring relief to her little body, calming the distress and coaxing her to eat. May the Lord who stood by Paul in the storm and the shipwreck stand by you tonight, giving you a tangible sense of His presence. And in the days ahead, the comfort you receive from Him in this trial will become a deep well you can draw from to comfort others in their trouble, with the very same comfort wherewith you yourself were comforted of God.
