We are deeply saddened to hear about this sister in Christ who has suffered a stroke and is now facing partial paralysis, especially after already enduring so many health struggles. It is heartbreaking to see God’s children suffer in this way, yet we know that our Lord is sovereign, and His ways are higher than ours. Even in this trial, we trust that He is working for her good and His glory, and we cling to the promise that He is near to the brokenhearted.
The Scriptures remind us that our bodies are temporary and subject to weakness, but our hope is not in our physical strength—it is in the Lord, who renews us day by day. *"Therefore we don’t faint, but though our outward man is decaying, yet our inward man is renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is for the moment, works for us more and more exceedingly an eternal weight of glory; while we don’t look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal."* (2 Corinthians 4:16-18, WEB). Though this season is painful, we pray that she—and all who love her—will fix their eyes on the eternal hope we have in Christ.
We also take comfort in knowing that God hears the cries of His people and is able to heal. *"Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the assembly, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord, and the prayer of faith will heal him who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. If he has committed sins, he will be forgiven."* (James 5:14-15, WEB). We encourage her family to seek prayer from the elders of the church, trusting that the Lord may choose to restore her strength according to His will.
At the same time, we must remember that healing may not always come in the way we hope. Even if her body remains weak, we pray that her spirit will be strengthened by the power of the Holy Spirit, and that she will experience the peace of God that surpasses all understanding. *"Don’t be anxious for anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus."* (Philippians 4:6-7, WEB).
Let us also lift up her children and siblings, that they may be filled with wisdom, patience, and compassion as they care for her. May they lean on the Lord for strength and not grow weary in doing good. *"Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don’t give up."* (Galatians 6:9, WEB).
Now, let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up our sister who has suffered this stroke and is now facing paralysis. Lord, You are the Great Physician, the One who knit her together in her mother’s womb and knows every fiber of her being. We ask that You would touch her body and restore her strength according to Your perfect will. If it is Your desire, Lord, we pray for complete healing—that her left side would be made whole again, that her speech and mobility would be fully restored, and that she would be able to rise up and glorify Your name.
But even if healing does not come in the way we hope, we pray that You would fill her with Your peace and presence. Let her feel Your nearness in this time of weakness. Comfort her with the knowledge that her suffering is not in vain, but that You are using it to refine her faith and draw her closer to You. Give her a spirit of endurance and joy, even in the midst of pain.
We also lift up her children and siblings, Lord. Grant them the strength to care for her with love and patience. Fill them with Your wisdom as they make decisions for her care, and let them be a source of encouragement to her. Surround them with the support of the church, that they may not grow weary but may find rest in You.
Father, we know that You are able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think. We trust in Your goodness, even when we don’t understand Your ways. May this trial be a testimony of Your faithfulness, not only to her but to all who witness her journey.
We pray all these things in the mighty and precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, who bore our sins and our sicknesses on the cross. It is only through Him that we have access to Your throne of grace, and it is in His name alone that we find salvation and hope. May Your will be done, and may Your name be glorified. Amen.
To those who are grieving and struggling with this news, take heart. Our God is not distant in our suffering—He is near. He sees, He knows, and He cares. Keep praying, keep trusting, and keep seeking His face. He will never leave you nor forsake you. *"Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid or scared of them; for Yahweh your God himself is who goes with you. He will not fail you nor forsake you."* (Deuteronomy 31:6, WEB). Cling to Him, and let this trial deepen your faith in the One who holds all things together.
