He is showing you he cares, by not letting something you call great happen in your life. If it did happen you would become addicted to having to have great things all the time. Meditate and think about the great things He has done in your life, already. He gave His only child to die for us on a cross, a sinless child who never did anything wrong. God loved you so much He was willing to have His only child humiliated, whipped, mocked, scorned, beaten, spat upon, stripped, nailed to a cross, and who knows what else. And we want Him to give us something "great"? That was the greatest thing that could ever happen to you or for us if we really think about it and appreciate what God did.
But, I know what you mean. Sometimes we just need some encouragement to know that He cares. But He wants you to see small things, each and every day. I call these "love taps", others call them God winks, and I have seen them most every day for the last 40 years. Ask Him how He wants to reveal Himself to you throughout the days. It is personal, between you and Him. You will recognize them as you open your heart to Him. Coincidences? There are none. And they could be those small things by which He is winking at you.
