Please lift up my friend in prayer

We lift up your friend before the throne of grace, seeking the Holy Spirit’s guidance and intervention. Father God, we come before You with hearts full of compassion, asking that You would move powerfully in this situation. Your Word tells us, "Likewise, the Spirit also helps our weaknesses, for we don’t know how to pray as we ought. But the Spirit himself makes intercession for us with groanings which can’t be uttered" (Romans 8:26 WEB). We trust that the Holy Spirit is already at work, interceding for this dear one according to Your perfect will.

Lord, we ask that You would draw near to your friend in a tangible way. If there is unconfessed sin, reveal it so that repentance and restoration may follow. Your Word declares, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9 WEB). We pray for healing, whether it be physical, emotional, or spiritual, and for Your peace to guard their heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7 WEB).

If this friend does not yet know You as Savior and Lord, we plead for their salvation. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me" (John 14:6 WEB). There is no other name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12 WEB), and we pray that they would surrender their life to Christ, receiving the gift of eternal life.

Father, we also ask that You would strengthen their faith, surround them with godly community, and fill them with hope. May they experience Your love in a profound way, knowing that nothing can separate them from it (Romans 8:38-39 WEB). We declare Your promises over their life and trust You to work all things together for good (Romans 8:28 WEB).

In Jesus’ mighty name, we pray. Amen.

We're glad you trusted us to join you in lifting up your friend. There's something powerful about simply bringing someone we care about before God, even when we don't have all the details, trusting that the Holy Spirit knows exactly what's needed. Your request itself is an act of love, and we're honored to stand with you in it.

As we pray, we're asking that God draws near to your friend in whatever way they most need right now, whether that's comfort, direction, healing, or a fresh sense of His presence. We also ask that you, as their friend, would feel the Spirit's gentle guidance in how to support them, whether through words, a listening ear, or just steady, faithful presence.

Sometimes the most meaningful thing we can do is to keep showing up in prayer, day by day, trusting that God is at work even when we can't see it yet. Thank you for doing that.

Lord, we bring this friend before You now. You know their name, their circumstances, and the quiet places of their heart. Meet them with Your peace, protect them, and give them wisdom for whatever lies ahead. Surround them with people who will remind them they are not alone. And bless the one who asked us to pray, strengthen their friendship and deepen their trust in You. In Jesus' name, amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

A prayer has been laid before the Throne of Grace for one unknown to us by name, yet known to the all-seeing God. And what is the most needful petition we can offer, when the need itself is veiled from our eyes? Is it not for the blessed Holy Spirit, without whom no true prayer can rise and no lasting good can come?

The Spirit helps our infirmities, for we know not what we should pray for as we ought. In this ignorance, we are cast entirely upon Him. He makes intercession for the saints with groanings which cannot be uttered. Let this be our confidence: we ask the great Intercessor to take up the case of this soul and plead according to the will of God. The prayer that is born of the flesh is wind and vanity; the prayer that is ignited by the Spirit is fire from the altar.

Yet let us never forget that the Spirit’s office is to glorify Christ. He will take of the things of Christ and show them to us. Therefore, the cry we lift for this friend runs not into vague hopefulness, but along the sacred track of the Gospel. We ask the Spirit to reveal Christ in His fullness to this soul, a full Christ for an empty sinner. If this friend is straying into gross sin, then we plead the prayer of the penitent, that God would not take His Holy Spirit away, lest spiritual life should end and the soul be left as a tree twice dead. If unbelief has crept in, or the closet door is cobwebbed through neglect, then we grieve the Spirit, and the ill-effects are terrible. Search out the sin, slay it upon the spot, and may the Spirit return with the light of His countenance.

And if this friend lies under a burden of care, with a heart distracted by anxiety, then may the Spirit of consolation descend, for the joy of the Lord is your strength. Or if the heart has grown cold and the soul lies parched, we ask for the holy fire and the heavenly dew, that life may be imparted more abundantly. We dare not dictate terms to the skilful Physician, but we plead the mercy that is vast in acreage, mercy for the past, the present, and the future. For the humbled soul finds here its strong hold in prayer: "Lord, You have already done so much for me; therefore complete Your work." The best pleader is a sinner, and the fittest attitude is humility. So we come, not with the pride of exact specification, but with the urgency of absolute dependence, beseeching the Spirit to intercede as He knows the mind of God. May the Lord grant that we may not grieve the Holy Spirit, but may we instead receive Him afresh, to the glory of Christ.

Prayer is a mighty weapon. I will indeed lift up your friend, but remember that intercession works best when joined with faith and a life striving after godliness. Be careful not to pray in a manner that harbors wrath or unforgiveness, for that turns your supplication into a sharp sword against yourself. We need prayer early and always, because every day is a storm with hidden rocks. Yet do not think that another’s prayer releases you from your own watchfulness. Even a righteous man like Paul or Peter did not say, “I have no need of prayer.” If we wake ourselves, the prayers of others become a strong wall; but if we sleep in sin, even the prayers of the saints cannot save us, as it was in the days when Noah and Job could not deliver a wicked people. So pray as the Spirit leads, for the Spirit shows us our need of Christ and aligns our will with God’s. Do not only ask for your friend, but examine your own heart, that you may stand with lifted hands without anger or doubt. True prayer is not long-winded repetition; it is the cry of a soul that trusts wholly in God’s grace while also doing its part. I will pray, but see that you also are on the alert.

Your request is a reminder that prayer does not wait for us to know every detail. When we do not know how to pray as we ought, the Spirit himself steps in and intercedes for us with sighs deeper than speech. So I will lift your friend before the Father, trusting the Spirit to carry this need according to God's will and not merely according to our guesses. The purpose of prayer is not to get our own will done but to see God's purposes accomplished, and the Spirit knows exactly what those purposes are. I will ask for the Holy Spirit's help and power in your friend's life, for whatever conviction, comfort, healing, provision, or direction is needed. God does not hold back the Spirit from those who ask him, so we can ask without fear.

Father, you know this friend completely. Let your Spirit intercede where our words fall short, and do your will in this life. Fill this one with your Spirit and draw them close to Jesus. In his name.
