The request for safety in travel is a cry that echoes the heart’s deepest awareness of danger. Every journey, however short, is laden with perils, the falling stone, the straying wheel, the sudden storm. We are, all of us, in constant need of an infinite Friend to keep us against all the machinations of our adversaries, and none can travel a single mile without the upholding hand of the only wise God our Savior. It is good that you have brought your daughter and her companion, and even the creatures under her care, before the Throne of Grace. Not a sparrow falls without the Father, and these beloved pets are known to Him who feeds the ravens. Commit them all into His keeping who is able to keep you from falling and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy. There is the safety of her spirit and body alike, for His Throne might sooner fail than a saint can perish.
Never think that you need anything beyond the provision which is stored up in Christ for sanctification, satisfaction, and safety. Cast not your eyes around to find a supplement to the Lord Jesus, or you will deceive yourself and dishonor Him. The same dear hand that holds the stars in their courses can hold a traveling daughter and her pets secure. Be of good courage, for all the fears of those who are in Christ shall not affect their eternal safety, and not one of His own shall be missing in the day when the roll of the redeemed is called. Let your heart rest in this: He that keeps Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps, and the journey, though it pass through many a strange way, is under the protection of an unchanging Company, our God our Savior, whose lovingkindness is marvelous. Pray, then, with confidence, and leave the keeping in those pierced hands.
