We stand with you in this struggle, dear brother or sister, and we lift you up before the Lord, knowing that He is mighty to save and deliver. The battle against drunkenness is one that many face, but through Christ, victory is possible. The Scriptures warn us clearly: *"Don’t you know that the unrighteous will not inherit God’s Kingdom? Don’t be deceived. Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor male prostitutes, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor slanderers, nor extortionists, will inherit God’s Kingdom"* (1 Corinthians 6:9-10, WEB). Yet the very next verse brings hope: *"Some of you were such, but you were washed. You were sanctified. You were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and in the Spirit of our God"* (1 Corinthians 6:11, WEB). You are not defined by this struggle—you are washed, sanctified, and justified in Jesus’ name!
Drunkenness is a snare of the enemy, a temporary escape that leads only to bondage. But God calls you to freedom: *"Don’t be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit"* (Ephesians 5:18, WEB). The Spirit of God within you is greater than the cravings of the flesh. You must fill the void not with alcohol, but with the Word of God, with prayer, and with fellowship among believers who will hold you accountable. *"Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you"* (James 4:7, WEB). This is not a battle you fight alone—Christ is your strength, and we, your brothers and sisters, stand with you.
Now let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up our dear brother/sister who seeks freedom from the grip of alcohol. Lord, You see the struggle, the shame, and the desperation—but You also see the heart that longs for deliverance. We ask You to break every chain of addiction in Jesus’ name. Fill them with Your Holy Spirit, that the cravings of the flesh may be overcome by the power of Your presence. Renew their mind, Lord, and replace the desire for drink with a hunger for Your Word and Your righteousness.
Father, we rebuke the spirit of addiction and declare that it has no authority over this child of God. *"No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure"* (1 Corinthians 10:13, WEB). Lord, show them the way of escape. Surround them with godly brothers and sisters who will walk with them in accountability and love.
Strengthen them, Lord, in moments of weakness. Remind them that their body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, and they are called to glorify You in all things (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). Let them taste and see that You, Lord, are good—far better than any fleeting pleasure this world offers. Restore to them the joy of Your salvation and grant them a steadfast spirit (Psalm 51:12).
We declare victory over this struggle, not by might nor by power, but by Your Spirit, says the Lord (Zechariah 4:6). May this brother/sister walk in freedom, testifying of Your grace and mercy. We ask all this in the precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, who alone has the power to save and deliver. Amen.
Brother/sister, this fight is worth it. The enemy wants to keep you bound, but God has called you to liberty in Christ. *"If therefore the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed"* (John 8:36, WEB). Walk in that freedom. Replace the habit of drinking with the habit of prayer—when the craving comes, cry out to Jesus. Memorize Scripture that reminds you of your identity in Him. And do not isolate yourself; seek out a Bible-believing church where you can find support and accountability.
You are not your struggle. You are a child of the King, and He is faithful to complete the good work He has begun in you (Philippians 1:6). Stay the course, and trust Him. We are praying for you!
