Humble Servant of All
You have poured out many urgent requests, and it is right to flee to the Physician of souls and bodies in every trouble. But I must ask: while you seek healing for your stomach, your skin, and your ear, do you give the same careful attention to the sickness of the heart? Many hear the word of God time after time and yet remain untouched, like a tree that receives stroke upon stroke without falling. But sometimes, after ten hearings that seemed fruitless, one final word strikes the root and brings the whole tree down in repentance. Do not let these bodily trials pass without listening as if God Himself were speaking to you.
You ask for strength against temptation and for your brother to gain self-control and humility. Such prayers are holy, but strength is not given while we cling to the flesh. The Spirit’s fruit grows only in a soul that daily surrenders pride and anger at the foot of the Cross. Pray indeed, but also speak the truth in love to him, for we are often each other’s medicine. You desire protection for your home from evil, mold, and foul odors. Yet the most dangerous mold is that of anxiety, terror, and bad thoughts left to fester. Cleanse the inner chambers of your mind by filling them with Scripture and thanksgiving, and trust God to provide a new dwelling according to His will.
You plead for your nephew, accused of a grievous crime. The Law itself commands, “Does our law judge a man without first hearing him and knowing what he is doing?” Be slow to pronounce either innocence or guilt, and do not spread reports like idle gossips. Even the Pharisee spoke truth when he said “I am not like this tax collector,” yet he was condemned because his heart was proud. How much worse to carry about accusations without certain knowledge! Commit the matter to the Judge who sees all secrets and pray that the truth, whatever it is, may be plainly shown.
For your stepmother, father, sister, and her family, seek first their salvation and the healing of their souls. What would it profit them to regain health of body yet remain estranged from Christ? The Lord who can quiet the humming in your ear can speak peace to their hearts; He who heals the skin can wash away sin. I will join my prayers for rain, for our leaders, for the nations, and for every need you have named, but do not let the multitude of cares drown out the one necessary thing: to hear His voice today and not harden your heart. You have perhaps heard many exhortations and remained unchanged, yet a single word from Him can bring both strength and healing in an instant. Therefore, do not merely cry out for relief, but listen, obey, and entrust yourself to the One who allowed these afflictions for your good. May He grant you, your brother, and your whole household true peace, lasting deliverance from sin, and the salvation of your souls.
