Psalm 19:12 :
But who can discern their own errors? Forgive my hidden faults.

A Prayer Inspired by Psalm 19:12:
Our prayer:
"Heavenly Father , our heart is prone to wander in ways we do not even fully see. Who can truly understand all their own mistakes or recognize the subtle pride and quiet faults hidden deep within? Please cleanse us from the sins we are blind to, and forgive our secret shortcomings. Protect us from willful and arrogant choices, and do not let any habit or sin have power over us. Guard our thoughts, direct our inner meditations, and purify the words of our mouth so that our entire life honors You, our solid Rock and our Redeemer. In Jesus' name, Amen."

We join with you in this beautiful and humble prayer inspired by Psalm 19:12, and we thank you for lifting up the name of Jesus as the Bread of Heaven and the Word of Life.

We love how this psalm shows us the progression of sin and the mercy of God. David first prays about hidden faults, then about presumptuous sins, and finally about his words and thoughts. He says in Psalm 19:12 Who can discern his errors? Forgive me from hidden errors. And then in Psalm 19:13 Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins. Let them not have dominion over me. Then I will be upright. I will be blameless and innocent of great transgression. And in Psalm 19:14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, Yahweh, my rock, and my redeemer.

This is such an honest prayer because we confess that we cannot even see all of our own sin without the light of the Holy Spirit. Our hearts can hide pride, selfish motives, and quiet compromises that we excuse or do not notice. That is why we must pray as you did and also as David prayed in Psalm 139:23 Search me, God, and know my heart. Try me, and know my thoughts. Psalm 139:24 See if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the everlasting way. We cannot cleanse ourselves, but God promises that if we walk in the light, the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin as we read in 1 John 1:7, and in 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

We rejoice that you have centered this prayer on Jesus, for He truly is the Word of God made flesh. In John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. And John 1:14 The Word became flesh, and lived among us. He is also the Bread of Heaven who gives life to all who come to Him in faith, for Jesus said in John 6:35 I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will not be hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty. It is only through His name and His atoning blood that we have access to the Father and can ask for this cleansing, and we are grateful you prayed in His name.

We pray together with you now.

Heavenly Father, we come before You together in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Redeemer. We confess that we are blind to many of our own errors and that hidden faults still dwell within us. We ask You to forgive us for our secret shortcomings, for the sins of thought and attitude that we do not see, and to cleanse us thoroughly by the blood of Jesus. Keep us back from presumptuous and willful sins, and do not let any sin have dominion over us. Guard our hearts from arrogance and self-will, and lead us by Your Spirit in humility and obedience. Purify the words of our mouth and the meditation of our heart so that all we say and think is acceptable in Your sight, for You are our Rock and our Redeemer. Create in us clean hearts and renew a right spirit within us, and teach us to love Your Word which revives the soul and gives wisdom. We ask this in the precious name of Jesus, our Bread of Heaven and Word of Life, Amen.

We were grateful to read your prayer, it takes humility to ask God to show us what we cannot see in ourselves.

That sense that our hearts can wander in ways we don't fully notice is something many believers carry. We want to honor God with our thoughts and words, and at the same time we know we have blind spots, quiet habits, and pride that can take root without us realizing. Bringing that honestly to the Father, just as you did, is itself part of growing in holiness. That growth is not instant or all at once, it is gradual and lifelong, with ups and downs, and it is ultimately God's Spirit at work in us as we stay close to Him.

One simple practice that helps keep this prayer alive is to give it a little space each day. At the end of the day, in a quiet moment, ask the Lord to gently bring to light anything hidden that He wants to address, and then tell Him plainly what comes to mind. If something specific keeps surfacing, it can also help to share it with a trusted pastor or mature believer who can pray with you and walk alongside you. Confession is not just something God requires of us, it is something we need for healing and for change.

Father, we thank You that You are our Rock and Redeemer and that we can come to You honestly. We ask You to cleanse what is hidden from us, forgive our secret faults, and guard us from choosing willful ways. Shape our thoughts and words to honor You, and keep drawing us closer to Jesus, in whose name we pray, Amen.

Your prayer is one that every humble heart must offer, for who can discern his own errors and who can understand the hidden faults that lie deep within. David, who penned Psalm 19, knew that secret sins are still sins before the holy God, and that we have need to cry, cleanse thou me from secret faults, and again, keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins.

All sins are great sins, for every sin has in it the venom of rebellion against God, but presumptuous sins rank head and foremost in the list of iniquities, for they are sins committed with deliberation, with a high hand, knowingly and willfully. How needful then is your petition that the Lord would not only forgive what is hidden from your own eyes, but keep you back from that pride and willfulness which would presume upon His mercy. It is a mark of grace that you feel your proneness to wander and desire to be kept, for loose thoughts of sin beget a presumptuous spirit, and pride in all its shapes is the fountain of carnal security.

Hear then the good news which the gospel brings to such a prayer. We have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace. Forgiveness is bound up with redemption by blood, so that redemption and forgiveness appear as one. It is not a future hope only, but a present forgiveness. He blotteth out thy transgressions now. It is a divine forgiveness, I, even I, am He that blotteth out thy transgressions, and it is a surprising forgiveness, so great that God Himself speaks as though surprised that such sins should be remitted, yet so it is. It is a perfect pardon, not a few sins only, but every sin, though they be innumerable they are all gone at once when the blood is applied by the Holy Spirit and received by faith. A sinner may have committed more sins than he could count, and yet as soon as he gives one believing look at Jesus Christ, all those sins are gone forever.

And this cleansing is a covenant blessing which God Himself applies. He says, I will sprinkle clean water upon you and ye shall be clean. He does not only attempt the cleansing but He accomplishes it. The fountain is opened in the house of David for sin and for uncleanness, and that cleansing is followed by a great change of conduct, for the Lord Jesus came to save His people from their sins, not in their sins, and to break the chain and kill the tyrant master.

Therefore let your prayer continue, and let it rest upon Christ, the Bread of Heaven and the Word of Life. Ask not only for pardon, but for keeping power, that no habit or sin may have dominion over you, and that your thoughts and the meditation of your heart and the words of your mouth may be acceptable in the sight of the Lord, your Rock and your Redeemer.

Let us pray together. O Lord, cleanse thou thy servants from secret faults. Forgive our hidden sins through the blood of Jesus Christ, which is a most blessed antidote for our deadly poison. Keep back thy servants also from presumptuous sins, let them not have dominion over us. Sprinkle clean water upon us and make us clean, and guard our thoughts and purify our lips, that our whole life may honor Thee. We ask this not by our own doings or efforts, but by the riches of Thy grace in Christ Jesus, in whose name we pray. Amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

It is a good and humble prayer you have offered, and it is exactly according to Scripture. When you say with the Psalmist, who can discern their own errors, forgive my hidden faults, you speak the truth about every human heart. There is no one who is not conscious of some sin, and many things remain hidden even from ourselves until the light of God reveals them.

For this reason Scripture teaches us to turn our speech toward our own faults before God. If we condemn ourselves and confess our own sins to the Lord, we find mercy. As it is written, I said I will confess my transgressions to the Lord, and you forgave the iniquity of my heart. To speak of our own sins to God brings reward and healing, while to overlook them leaves us burdened.

You have asked rightly for two things. First, cleansing from hidden and secret faults, those quiet failings and subtle pride that we do not easily see. These are made known by the light of Christ, for whatever is exposed by the light becomes visible. Ask God daily to search your heart, to guard your thoughts and to purify the words of your mouth, so that your meditation may be acceptable before Him who is your Rock and Redeemer.

Second, you have asked for protection from willful and arrogant choices. This is wise, for Scripture warns us that if we sin willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins but a fearful expectation of judgment. God is ready to pardon what is done in weakness and ignorance when we repent, but a deliberate and stubborn persistence in sin hardens the heart. Therefore pray not only for pardon, but for grace to keep sin from having dominion over you.

Jesus Christ, who is the Bread of Heaven and the living Word of God, alone is our salvation. Through His blood we have remission of sins, sanctification, and adoption as children of God. There is no other name by which we are cleansed. Come to Him continually in repentance and faith, and He will keep you.

Let us pray together for you:

Heavenly Father, we thank You that You see what is hidden and You forgive those who confess their sins to You. Cleanse this dear one from secret faults and from sins not yet seen. Forgive what is hidden in the heart and bring it into Your light. Keep them from willful sin and from arrogant presumption, and let no sin rule over them. Guard their thoughts, direct their inner meditations, and make the words of their mouth pleasing to You. Establish them in faith, hope and love, and cause their whole life to honor You, their Rock and Redeemer. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord, who alone is our hope and salvation. Amen.
