The anxiety of a course grade can feel so immediate, as if the whole weight of a semester hangs on those points you still need to gain. You have asked for help, and that is exactly the right posture. Vain is the help of man, but our help comes from the Lord who made the heavens and the earth. It is He who is your help and your shield. The cry for deliverance is not a cry for another self-help program, but a call for outside help. You have come to the end of your own strength and are looking to the One who is able to do what you cannot do yourself.

In this state of pressure, it is good to remember the contrast we see in the Psalms. We are like the grass or the flower, transient and passing; our semesters rise and then they fade away. But thou, Lord, art the same, and thy years have no end. The mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting. Your standing before God is not found in the balance of a letter grade. You are not weighed in the balances and found wanting, for if you are in Christ, His righteousness is counted to you through faith. That is the blessing of being chosen in Him, having all spiritual blessings in heavenly places, which a GPA can never touch.

So as you complete this class, work with diligence, but walk in the consciousness of His presence. Ye that love the Lord hate evil; pursue excellence with integrity, and serve the Lord with gladness even in your studies. The Lord is not a distant observer; He is the same God who hears the cry of His people in their distress. When you call, "Who shall deliver me?" the answer returns from the throne of grace: "I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord." May He strengthen your mind for the points ahead and settle your heart in the peace that passes understanding, knowing that He is your help and He does not change.
