Pleading to be a wife

Anonymous

Beloved of All
Jesus I love you. Prayer changes things. I pray that my life changes. I have been praying diligently to become a wife. I have kept you first and continue to pray. I rejoice for others and everyone keeps asking why I am not married. I am ### now and wanted to have a big family with 6 biological healthy smart kids. Please grant my prayer so I can have a husband and be blessed to still have kids. I pray that you would make me the most amazing wife for my husband and allow him to be an amazing husband for me. Let us always keep you first. Please accelerate this blessing for me and I pray he is a provider/protector for our family.

We hear your heart’s deep longing, and we stand with you in prayer, lifting your desires before the Lord. Your faithfulness to keep Him first and your joy in others’ blessings are beautiful reflections of a heart surrendered to God. Marriage is a sacred covenant, a gift from the Lord, and we join you in asking Him to fulfill His perfect will in your life.

First, let us affirm what Scripture teaches about marriage and family. The Bible celebrates marriage as a union between one man and one woman, designed by God for companionship, love, and the raising of godly offspring (Genesis 2:24, Malachi 2:15). Children are indeed a heritage from the Lord, a reward to be cherished (Psalm 127:3-5). Your desire for a husband and a family is not only natural but honorable when aligned with God’s design.

Yet, we must also examine our hearts and motives. While it is right to pray for a spouse, we must guard against allowing this desire to become an idol that overshadows our trust in God’s timing. The Lord knows the plans He has for you, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11). Sometimes, His delays are not denials but preparations, shaping us into the wives, mothers, and women of God He has called us to be. Have you considered that God may be using this season to refine your faith, deepen your reliance on Him, or prepare you for the specific man He has for you?

We also encourage you to actively seek godly community and opportunities to serve. Proverbs 18:22 tells us, "Whoever finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor from Yahweh." While prayer is essential, we are also called to walk in wisdom. Are you involved in a local church where you can build relationships with other believers? Are you open to godly counsel from married couples who can mentor you in what it means to be a wife who honors Christ? Sometimes, the Lord brings our spouses into our lives through the natural rhythms of fellowship and service.

Let us also address the importance of contentment. Paul writes in Philippians 4:11-13, "I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content in it. I know how to be humbled, and I know how to abound. In everything and in all things I have learned the secret both to be filled and to be hungry, both to abound and to be in need. I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me." Contentment does not mean giving up on your desires; rather, it means trusting God’s goodness even when His timing differs from ours. A heart at peace in Christ will be far more attractive to a godly man than one consumed by longing.

Now, let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts full of faith and trust in Your perfect plan. Lord, we lift up our sister who longs to be a wife and mother. You see the desires of her heart, and we ask that You would align them with Your will. Father, if it is Your plan for her to marry, we pray You would bring the right man into her life, a man after Your own heart, who will love her as Christ loves the church, who will lead their family in godliness, and who will provide and protect as You have called him to do.

Lord, we ask that You would prepare her to be the wife You have called her to be. Teach her to love with Your love, to submit in reverence to Christ, and to nurture a home that honors You. Give her patience in this season, and help her to find joy and purpose in serving You right where she is. If there are areas of her heart that need refining, whether in her expectations, her trust, or her contentment, we ask that You would reveal them to her and draw her closer to You.

Father, we also pray for protection over her heart. Guard her from discouragement, from comparing her life to others, and from settling for anything less than Your best. May she continue to rejoice in the blessings of others, knowing that Your timing is perfect. If marriage is not Your plan for her, we pray that You would fill her life with such an abundance of Your presence and purpose that she would not feel the lack.

Lord, we declare that Your Word is true, and we stand on the promise that You will withhold no good thing from those who walk uprightly (Psalm 84:11). We trust You to write her story, and we ask that You would accelerate this blessing in Your perfect timing. May her life bring glory to Your name, whether as a wife and mother or in whatever calling You have for her.

We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to You, and it is only by His sacrifice that we are saved. May Your will be done in her life, and may she continue to grow in faith, hope, and love. Amen.

In the meantime, dear sister, continue to seek the Lord with all your heart. Delight yourself in Him, and He will give you the desires of your heart (Psalm 37:4). Use this season to grow in wisdom, in faith, and in the fruit of the Spirit. Serve in your church, build godly friendships, and remain open to the ways God may be working in your life. The right man will not only love you but will also love the Lord more than he loves you. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, and trust that He is writing a beautiful story for your life.

Thank you for letting us share this with you. It takes courage to speak a longing this deep, and we hear how much your heart aches for marriage and a family. That desire for a husband you can love and serve alongside, for a home full of children, is good and God‑given. We also know how stinging it can be when others ask “why aren’t you married?” while you’re already carrying the wait so faithfully.

We’re grateful you’ve kept Jesus first. That devotion matters, even when the answer seems delayed. In seasons like this, God often uses the quiet ache to deepen our trust not just in what He can do, but in who He is, a Father who sees you fully and hasn’t forgotten a single prayer.

One thing that might be a steady anchor right now is walking this road with a few trusted women from your church. Their questions won’t be about why you’re single; they’ll be the kind that remind you of your worth and help you keep hoping. Some women have also found it healing to talk with a pastoral counselor or a wise mentor, not to fix the waiting, but to make sense of all the grief and hope tangled up together.

Will you let us pray for you now?

Lord Jesus, You know every detail of this sister’s longing. Quiet the ache inside her and fill her with the peace that defies circumstance. Guard her heart from discouragement, and when the time is right in Your perfect wisdom, bring a godly husband who will be a provider and protector, and bless their life with the children she dreams of. Until then, hold her close, remind her she is seen and deeply loved, and give her unshakable joy in this season. We trust You with her story. In Your name we pray, amen.

Your prayer rises with the earnestness of a soul that truly longs to honor the Lord in marriage. The desire to be a wife and mother is not a trifling thing; it is woven into the fabric of womanhood by the Creator’s own hand. Yet I must press a tender question upon your heart: has this good desire become a weight that bows you down? You speak of pleading and accelerating, and I fear lest the blessing sought should eclipse the Blesser in your soul’s gaze. The Lord Jesus is already a Husband to His people, faithful, providing, communing with love beyond any earthly bridegroom’s capacity. Are you resting in that union first? The betrothal is sure for every believer; the marriage of the Lamb is the Church’s destiny, and no soul espoused to Christ is ever overlooked. He sets His special love upon you, found you in a desert land, and has pledged Himself with bonds unbreakable. If He withholds a lesser gift for a season, it is not stinginess but wisdom, He is teaching you to walk as His child, bearing with your mistakes, even when maturity tarries while years advance.

You mention the clock of age, the dream of six children, the questions of others. But what are years to Him who bends time itself? A thousand years are as a day, and a waiting decade may be but the winking of an eye in His eternal purpose. The Lord’s delays are never denials; they are the fires that consume dross, that you might shine as gold. Cling to the cloak of zeal, but wear it not only in pleading for a husband, wear it in the homestead of your present calling, in the factory of daily duty, in secret prayer where the Bridegroom meets you now. A wife’s excellence is first formed in the hidden place with Christ. Do not let the ache for a visible provider steal your confidence in the unseen Provider who daily loads you with benefits. The true Husband protects and provides; He knows your frame, remembers you are dust, and pits His patience against your frailties because you are His child.

Yet examine your heart: is the vision of six healthy, smart children a demand or a surrendered hope? The Lord loves to give good gifts, but He will not be dictated to by even the most tearful prayers. Our schemes for big families, for timelines, for the character of a spouse, these must lie open-handed on the altar. The marriage of the Lamb teaches us that the Bride is made ready not by fulfilling her own blueprints, but by receiving the fine linen of Christ’s righteousness. Let His will write your story. Perhaps He would first deepen your contentment in being His alone, that you might truly say, “He is altogether lovely, and there is none comparable to Him.” When a wife thus esteems her heavenly Husband, she is prepared for an earthly one, should the Lord appoint it.

Cease counting the years and the questioning voices. Those who ask why you are not married cannot see the secret nurture of the Divine Nurse, holding the hands of a child slow to walk. Your singleness is no sign of failure; it is the schoolroom where the Lord teaches you to lean on Him. Plead the privilege of being His child, this is a plea that always moves His pity. And if He should grant the desire of your heart in His time, you will find that the husband given will be flawed, like yourself, and both of you will daily need that third strand of the cord: the Lord Himself. But if He should withhold, will you still rejoice for others without bitterness? Will you still bless the Bridegroom who satisfies your soul with Himself? That is the mark of the Spirit’s true leading, yielding to His leadership even when the path is lonely.

Pour out your soul at the Prayer Meeting, in the family of God, and at your own hearth. But let your cry shift from “Give me a husband by this date” to “Make me a bride who adorns the doctrine of Christ.” The Lord knows your frame; He forgets not the cries of the humble. Rest in the Covenant. The Breaker has gone up before you, and the flock shall be gathered in the fold. Your part is to follow the Shepherd, not to fret at the gate’s timing. Lay your Isaac afresh upon the altar, and trust that the Lord will provide. The marriage supper is sure for all the saints; till then, feast upon the Lamb in the sacrament of present communion. He is enough. He is your Husband, your Portion, your exceeding great reward.
