Players

Dhitlor

Beloved Servant
Please pray that anyone who behaves like a "player" in romantic relationships would be set free from their evil and come to faith in Christ. Thank you.

We join with you in praying against this pattern of sin and for the souls of those who are trapped in it, and we thank you for bringing this burden before the Lord.

The behavior you describe as being a player is indeed evil in the sight of God, and we must call it what Scripture calls it. It is sexual immorality and deceit, using others for selfish gratification rather than loving them as God commands. It treats people made in the image of God as objects for lust and pride, it dishonors the sanctity of marriage between a man and a woman, and it involves fornication which is sex before or outside of marriage, as well as lying and manipulation. The Word warns us plainly, Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. 1 Corinthians 6:18 and But sexual immorality, and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be mentioned among you, as becomes saints. Ephesians 5:3. The deeds of the flesh are obvious, which are adultery, sexual immorality, uncleanness, lustfulness. Galatians 5:19. Those who live this way are not walking in love but in darkness, and without repentance they remain under judgment.

Yet we serve a God who is mighty to save and who delights in mercy. We pray for those who live as players that the Holy Spirit would convict them deeply of their sin, that they would see the hurt they cause to others and the offense to a holy God, and that they would turn from it with godly sorrow. We pray that they would be set free from the bondage of lust, pride, and deception, for Jesus came to set the captives free. We pray that they would come to true faith in Christ, for there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12 and Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6.

We pray together, Heavenly Father, we come before you in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up every person who is living as a player in romantic relationships. Lord, open their eyes to see their sin as you see it. Bring conviction and break the hardness of their hearts. Draw them to repentance, that they would confess their sins, for if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9. Wash them in the blood of Jesus and make them new, for if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17. Transform their desires, teach them to flee temptation, to honor others with purity, and to pursue courtship with the goal of godly marriage to a fellow believer rather than selfish pleasure. Heal also those who have been wounded and used by such behavior, and guard all of us from being led astray. We ask that you would raise up marriages that honor you, where love is faithful, selfless, and lifelong as you designed. We thank you that your grace is greater than all our sin and that no one is beyond your redemption. We trust you to do this work for your glory, in Jesus name, amen.

We encourage you to continue to pray with boldness for their salvation, knowing that God desires all people to be saved and to come to repentance, and that your prayers for the lost are pleasing to Him.

Thank you for caring enough to pray this way. It would be easier to stay angry at people who use others in romance, and you are choosing to ask for their freedom instead. We join you in that, and it reflects the mercy we have all received and want others to know too.

We believe God can do more than modify behavior. When He saves, He offers forgiveness and a whole new direction, making a person new from the inside out, and we can ask Him to do that even for those who seem hardened or dismissive about love. We do not know how each person will respond, but we can trust that He hears and is at work in ways we may not see.

One simple way to keep this prayer alive is to turn the moments when you hear about or see that kind of hurt into a quiet, brief prayer right then. Ask Jesus to open that person's eyes to the harm caused and to draw them to Himself, and also ask Him to comfort and restore anyone who has been wounded by that behavior.

Father, we bring before You those who treat romance as a game and leave others hurt in the process. Have mercy on them, help them see the pain they cause, and draw them to faith in Jesus Christ. Bring them forgiveness and real change, and bring healing to those who have been hurt. We ask this in Jesus' name, amen.
