Piano teacher

Dhitlor

Servant of All
I have a lesson with my piano teacher this week. Please pray that it will go well. I have posted before that I love my lessons with her but she can be very overly critical and lack empathy and understanding but expects those things for herself. I have also had experiences with her where I feel like she treats me like a liar and this hurts me deeply. She says she is a Christian. Over time, the negative parts of my lesson with her have become overwhelming. I had an experience with her last week while I was fasting that was very negative and I don't know if it happened because I was fasting (no one knows when I fast but me, I don't tell anyone) and certain people react weirdly to me while I'm fasting - sometimes very positive and sometimes very negative. Some people also react strangely to me while I'm fasting depending on certain activities I'm engaged in while fasting like if I'm praying consistently or if I'm distracted and not really praying consistently while fasting or if I'm having to stop and do other things in the middle of praying. Thank you.

We understand the weight of your request, and we are grieved to hear about the struggles you are facing with your piano teacher. It is never easy to endure harsh criticism, lack of empathy, or false accusations—especially from someone who claims to be a follower of Christ. The Bible calls us to speak the truth in love, and when someone fails to do so, it can leave deep wounds. We are reminded of Ephesians 4:29, which says, *"Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but only what is good for building others up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear."* Unfortunately, your teacher’s words and actions do not reflect this biblical principle, and that is not of God.

It is also concerning that you have noticed unusual reactions from people while fasting, particularly when your focus on prayer wavers. Fasting is a sacred time of seeking God, and the enemy often seeks to distract or discourage us during these seasons. Jesus warned us in Matthew 6:16-18, *"Moreover when you fast, don’t be like the hypocrites, with sad faces. For they disfigure their faces that they may be seen by men to be fasting. Most certainly I tell you, they have received their reward. But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, so that you are not seen by men to be fasting, but by your Father who is in secret, and your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you."* Your fasting is between you and God, and if the enemy is using it as an opportunity to bring strife or confusion, we must stand firm in prayer and resist him.

As for your teacher, we must pray for her heart as well. If she professes to be a Christian, then her behavior does not align with the fruits of the Spirit, which are *"love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control"* (Galatians 5:22-23). It is possible she is struggling in her own walk with the Lord, and we should intercede for her repentance and transformation. However, that does not mean you must endure ungodly treatment. Proverbs 22:24-25 warns, *"Don’t befriend a hot-tempered man, and don’t associate with one who harbors anger, lest you learn his ways, and ensnare your soul."* If her behavior continues to harm you spiritually and emotionally, it may be wise to prayerfully consider whether this relationship is healthy for you to continue.

Let us pray together for you now:

Heavenly Father, we lift up our sister to You, asking for Your protection, peace, and wisdom to surround her as she prepares for her piano lesson this week. Lord, You see the pain she has endured from harsh words, false accusations, and a lack of empathy. We ask that You soften the heart of her teacher, convicting her of any ungodly attitudes or behaviors. If she is truly Yours, Lord, bring her to repentance and fill her with Your Spirit, that she may reflect Your love and grace. But if she is not walking in obedience to You, expose the truth and provide our sister with clarity on how to proceed.

Father, we also ask for discernment regarding the spiritual dynamics at play during her fasting. Protect her from the enemy’s schemes and help her to remain steadfast in prayer, undistracted by the reactions of others. Let her fasting be a time of deep communion with You, where she is strengthened and encouraged in her faith.

Lord, we pray for supernatural peace to guard her heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7). Give her the words to speak if she needs to address her teacher’s behavior, and grant her the wisdom to know whether this relationship should continue. If it is Your will for her to find a new teacher, open the doors and provide the right person who will build her up in both skill and spirit.

We rebuke any spiritual attacks against her, declaring that no weapon formed against her will prosper (Isaiah 54:17). Cover her with Your blood, Lord Jesus, and let Your angels encamp around her. May she walk in confidence, knowing that You are her defender and her strength.

Finally, Father, we ask that You use this situation for her good and Your glory. Teach her to trust You more deeply through this trial, and let her response be a testimony of Your grace. We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

We encourage you to continue seeking the Lord’s guidance in this matter. If you feel led, consider having a gentle but honest conversation with your teacher about how her words affect you, always speaking in love. However, if her behavior does not change, it may be time to prayerfully step away for your own well-being. Trust that God will lead you to the right decision. He cares deeply about your heart and your growth, both musically and spiritually.

Lastly, we want to remind you that fasting is a powerful spiritual discipline, but it should never be used as a means to manipulate or control outcomes. Instead, it is a time to humble yourself before God, seeking His face and His will above all else. Stay rooted in prayer, and let the Holy Spirit guide you in all things. You are not alone in this—we are standing with you in faith.

We're here for you, dear friend. We understand the hurt you're feeling, and we want you to know that you're not alone. Let's lift your piano lesson this week up in prayer together.

Lord Jesus, we come before You today, asking for Your peace and guidance for our ###. We pray that You would soften her piano teacher's heart, filling her with Your love and understanding. Help her to see the pain her words and actions are causing, and bring conviction if necessary. We ask that You would give our ### the strength to endure this trial, and grant her the wisdom to know how to navigate this relationship. If it's Your will for her to find a new teacher, we pray that You would open the right doors and provide the perfect fit for her growth.

We also pray for protection during her fasting periods. Help her to remain steadfast in prayer and undistracted by the reactions of others. Let this time be a deepening of her relationship with You, Lord.

In Jesus' mighty name, we pray. Amen.
