Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

We are so thankful you shared this precious promise with us and we rejoice with you in its truth. This verse is a powerful declaration of dependence on Christ, and we love to stand on it together with you.

We want to gently remind us all of the beautiful context in which the apostle Paul wrote these words. He was not writing from a place of earthly triumph, but from prison and hardship. Just before this he says, Not that I speak because of lack, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content in it. I know how to be humbled, and I know also how to abound. In everything and in all things I have learned the secret both to be filled and to be hungry, both to abound and to be in need. I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me. Philippians 4:11-13. So this is not a promise that we can accomplish any personal ambition in our own strength, but that through Christ we can endure, persevere, and be content in every circumstance He allows, whether in abundance or in need, in strength or in weakness.

That truth is such a comfort because His strength is made perfect in our weakness. As the Lord said to Paul, My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. 2 Corinthians 12:9. And we are reminded, Fear you not, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness. Isaiah 41:10.

We pray together for you now.

Father, we thank You for Your Word and for the strength You so freely give us through Your Son Jesus Christ. We thank You that we do not have to rely on our own power, which so quickly fails, but that Christ Himself dwells in us and strengthens us for every good work and every trial You call us to walk through. We pray that You would help our dear friend to truly live in the reality of Philippians 4:13, not as a slogan for self effort, but as a deep trust in Christ's sufficiency each day. Give wisdom to discern Your will and the courage and contentment to do all things You have called us to do, whether it is to endure hardship, to serve faithfully in small things, or to step out in faith where You lead. Fill us with Your peace and keep us abiding in Christ, for without Him we can do nothing, but with Him all that You require is possible. We ask this in the mighty and precious name of Jesus Christ, our strength and our salvation, Amen.

Thank you for sharing that verse with us. It tells us you are looking to Jesus for strength, and we are grateful to stand with you in that.

We know those words can feel especially precious when life feels heavy or uncertain. It is not about having strength on our own, but about leaning on Christ day by day in the real things in front of us.

One thing that has helped others is to make that very practical. When you have a quiet moment today, you might name one specific place where you feel stretched thin, and one small way you have already seen God give you steadiness, help or perseverance there, even in a small measure. Noticing what is already there can make it clearer where to ask for His help next.

We are praying for you and we want to keep praying. If there is a particular situation weighing on you, you are welcome to share more whenever you are ready.

Father, thank you for being our strength when we have none of our own. We lift our friend to you today, ask you to give clarity, peace and steady hope for each step ahead, and to make your presence near and real. Draw them close to you and sustain them. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

The verse you have laid before us is a well of comfort when rightly understood, and I rejoice that the Spirit has brought it to your mind. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me is not the boast of self confidence, but the humble confession of one who has learned that all strength apart from God is derived strength and must soon fail, and indeed apart from Him is not strength at all.

The apostle wrote those words not in a season of ease but in learning to be content in hunger and in fullness, in abundance and in need. His strength was not his own. It was Divinely bestowed. The Lord Himself says, I will strengthen them, and what He gives is fitly infused and wisely balanced, coming directly from the Holy Spirit who made us to live at the first and makes us to live more vigorously in Christ.

If you would know this strengthening, you must wait upon the Lord. They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. This waiting is not mere idleness, but feeding upon Christ, who is meat indeed and drink indeed, and taking your rest in Him. You have grown empty through hunger and there is nothing in you, but come and feed upon Him and the human engine shall generate fresh force. Sometimes also the Lord renews strength by giving a little rest, and He knows how to restore the weary soul.

Remember also that Christ is a perfect Savior, made perfect through suffering. He is not made perfect in character, for He was ever perfect God and perfect man, but perfect as the Captain of our salvation through His sufferings. Therefore He knows your weakness and is able to succor you, having cleared the way to the mercy seat through His own body rent for you. There is nothing wanted to hinder your access to God.

So do not glory in any strength of your own, nor in wisdom of words or natural power, for the glory of our strength must lie in God alone. Glory in the Cross of Christ, which is the main strength of the Gospel. While you are yet without strength, believe that Christ died for the ungodly, and you shall be saved from wrath through Him and made spiritually strong by His effectual working.

We pray that the Lord will increase your strength according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus, that you may travel on serenely through this vale of tears, feeling that God is with you and that your strength shall be equal to your day. May the Holy Spirit take away all self reliance that you may behold the power of Christ, and may you be kept abiding in Him to whom all authority belongs.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!
