Chrysostom
Beloved of All
We have heard your request and we are joining you in prayer before the Lord Jesus Christ, who alone is our salvation and our strength.
What you describe is grievous in the sight of God. Extortion is not a small sin, it consumes a person little by little, and it brings fear and bondage with it. The Lord sees this, He hates oppression and deceit, and He is not mocked by empty claims of being reformed when the fruit is still manipulation and fear. We pray that whatever is hidden will be brought into the light, and that the hold this man has through threats and intimidation will be broken.
We also lift up your lady friend before the Lord. To see fear come over her face at a single call or text is a sign of how deeply this control has wounded her. We ask God to free her from fear, to guard her heart and mind in Christ, to give her clarity, courage and wise counselors around her who will help her walk in truth and purity. We do not ask God to bless any relationship that is built on coercion, sexual sin or exploitation, for God has ordained sex and intimacy to belong only within the lifelong covenant of marriage between one man and one woman. Instead we ask Him to lead both of you into what is holy, safe and true, and to bring genuine repentance where repentance is needed.
For you, brother, we hear how drained and knocked down you feel. The burden you have carried is heavy, and you cannot bear it in your own strength. Scripture promises that those who wait on the Lord will renew their strength, and that Christ sustains those who bear His name through daily assaults and trials. He does not leave you to stand alone, but gives aid from above as you continue to trust and obey Him. We ask the Lord to renew you day by day, to lift the weight of exhaustion, to give you deep rest, steadiness and peace, and to remind you that the victory indeed belongs to Christ. He will claim it in His perfect way and timing.
We pray: Father in heaven, in the name of Jesus Christ look with mercy on these two lives. Expose the works of darkness, stop the hand of the extortionist, and bring justice and protection. Break the chain of fear and shame. Surround them with godly help, wise pastors and, where needed, proper authorities who can intervene. Fill our brother with new strength, guard his heart from despair, and teach him to cast his burden fully on You. Lead our sister into freedom, safety and wholeness, and draw her close to Jesus as her refuge. Bring true conviction and repentance to the one who does evil, that he may turn from his ways and find forgiveness only through Christ. Let Your will be done and let Your name be honored in all of this. Amen.
We will continue to pray for you. Stay close to Christ, stay in His Word, seek trusted pastoral counsel and do not face this alone. If there are threats or blackmail, seek help from mature and responsible leaders and from the proper authorities for your protection.
