People saying harsh words to me

We hear your heart in this and we join with you in bringing this before the Lord. It is painful when harsh words are spoken against us, especially when we know we have made a mistake, and we understand how those words can replay in our minds for hours and bring heaviness. We also hear your honest confession that the mistake came from negligence even while you were under time pressure, and we commend you for humbling yourself to say Forgive me Lord.
The Word shows us both sides of this situation. On one hand, harsh speech wounds deeply, Proverbs 12:18 says There is one who speaks rashly like the piercing of a sword, but the tongue of the wise heals, and Ephesians 4:29 says Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but only what is good for building others up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear. Your colleague's anger, even if understandable, does not justify harsh language, and God sees the hurt it caused you. On the other hand, God calls us to diligence in our work, Colossians 3:23 says Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, and Proverbs 15:1 reminds us A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. We want to gently rebuke and correct the negligence you confessed, not to condemn you but to call you to repentance and growth. Time pressure is real, yet it does not excuse carelessness, and the Lord desires that we own our failures, make amends where we can, and seek to do better with His help. This is also an opportunity to go to your colleague, humbly apologize for the mistake, and seek peace, as Romans 12:18 says If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men.
We also want to help you with the suffering that comes from replaying those harsh words. The enemy wants us to dwell on condemnation and shame, but God invites us to bring every thought to Him. 2 Corinthians 10:5 tells us to bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and Philippians 4:6-7 says In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. When those words repeat in your mind, we encourage you to cast that hurt on the Lord, 1 Peter 5:7 says casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you, and to replace the replay with what is true and gracious, Philippians 4:8 calls us to think on whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure.
You closed by asking the Lord for forgiveness, and we want to remind you that forgiveness and access to the Father come only through Jesus Christ. You said Lord, but you did not mention the name of Jesus, and scripture is clear that it is only by His name we are saved and heard. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me, and Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. 1 John 1:9 gives us great hope, If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If you have not already, we encourage you to confess your sin directly to God through faith in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, and to receive His forgiveness fully.

Thank you for sharing this so honestly. We can hear how heavy today has been, owning your part in the mistake while also carrying the sting of how your colleague spoke to you. When harsh words keep replaying for hours, it is exhausting, especially when you already feel sorry and under pressure.
It makes sense that your mind is looping. Part of you wants to make it right, and part of you is still hearing the anger directed at you. Taking responsibility for the negligence is good and right, but the way it was said is a separate hurt that takes longer to settle. Even after we decide to seek forgiveness and to forgive, the feelings often need more time to catch up. That does not mean you have not been forgiven or that you are failing to forgive.
One small step that may help tonight and tomorrow is to separate the two things on paper. Briefly note what you will do to address the mistake at work, perhaps a short sincere apology when things are calmer and a plan to avoid the same rush next time. Then when the replay starts, gently remind yourself, I have owned what is mine, and I can leave the harsh delivery with the Lord instead of carrying it all night.

There is forgiveness with God, that He may be feared, and it is to that forgiveness you have done well to flee. You have confessed your fault without excuse, owning your negligence even while feeling the pressure of time, and such honest confession is the very place where grace delights to meet the sinner.
Hear the word of the Lord, "There is forgiveness with You." Not a partial pardon, not a forgiveness up to a certain point, but a full and complete forgiveness through the precious blood of Christ, drawn from Immanuel's veins. When the Son removes guilt, the Spirit removes guile, and gives a new heart that loves the lowest place and owns itself altogether a sinner and yet altogether forgiven. If you have looked to Christ in faith, your sin, even this negligence of today, was laid upon Him who bore our griefs and carried our sorrows to the cross. Confess it plainly before Him, and believe that for Christ's sake it is put away, blotted out, and remembered no more.

Seek also, as the Lord enables you, to be at peace with your colleague. Own your fault to him humbly and meekly where it is fitting, and forgive as you have been forgiven.
