Prayer Focus: God, Thank You for loving me. Thank You for loving me, Jesus. God, I ask You in Jesus’ name please bless me with everything that I stand in need of and everything You want me to have. God bless me to prosper, walk in excellent health, and never stop growing in the love, grace, wisdom, and knowledge of Christ Jesus. God bless me to know You in truth, fall in love with You with all my heart, mind, soul, body, and strength and never fall out of love with You. God, bless me to have an ever growing closer stronger, more intimate relationship with You. Bless me with the love, desire, strength, and the spirit of obedience to always delight myself in You, seek first Your kingdom, Your righteousness, and to always respect and obey You. Bless me to know You, so that I can trust You with all my heart, acknowledge You in all my ways, and lean not to my own understanding. Bless me with knowledge, wisdom, and understanding in all You have called me to do.

God heal me in every area of my life. Deliver and cleanse me of everything in my life that doesn't honor You. Transform and renew my mind. Bless me with love, power, and a sound mind. Let the mind that is in Christ Jesus be in me. Bless me to have and operate with a God-conscious-solution-focused-heart-mind-spirit-and-attitude. Bless me to have a God Kingdom Culture Mentality. God be with me as a mighty warrior. Let no weapon formed against me prosper. Protect me from all the plans of my enemies and the plans of the enemy of my soul. You ask for peaceful sleep, and rightly so, for God in His tender care has woven this rest into our very nature. Night is the haven of our ills, the medicine for the soul’s wounds, given freely by the One who knows our toil-worn race. Yet often we become our own enemies, devising a sleeplessness far worse than any natural need. It is not the darkness or the quiet that keeps us wakeful, but the swarm of anxieties we breed within: the cares for money, the fear of loss, the pride of life. These are the chains that bind the soul, making even the wealthy man poorer than the beggar who sleeps in peace. The rich man lies down but his riches are ten thousand shackles, and every sound makes him leap up, while the poor man, having little, rests in the quiet haven of his poverty.

If you would sleep in peace, then guard your heart as the Psalmist says: “He that keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.” The God who watches over you calls you to cast your cares upon Him. He does not wish you to be drowned in despondency like the disciples in Gethsemane, but to be wakeful without anxiety, trusting that the outcome belongs to Him. True peace is not the absence of all trouble, but the presence of Christ in the soul. When the heart is not stifled by excess of bodily comfort or worldly ambition, it soon recovers itself and rests securely. Such sleep is the mark of a soul that fears God, not the sleep of death, but the gentle rest of those whose minds are stayed on Him.

Therefore, do not merely pray for sleep, but examine what robs you of it. Is it a conscience burdened by sin? Confess and be cleansed. Is it an anxious clinging to possessions that moths corrupt? Loose your grip and give thanks for what you have. Is it the memory of wrongs? Forgive, as you have been forgiven. For the God of love and peace delights to dwell with those who are of one mind and live in peace with all. He who stilled the storm with a word can calm the tempest within you. The earthquake that shook the prison at Philippi brought not chaos but deliverance and peace to the jailer. So too, when your heart quakes with fears, Christ stands ready to speak: “Do not harm yourself; we are all here.”

Go then to your rest, not as one who commands God, but as a child who trusts a Father who never slumbers. He who gave His beloved Son for you will surely grant you the lesser gift of quiet sleep. Let your prayer be not only a request but a resolution to cast every care upon Him, for He cares for you. Then shall you lie down, and your sleep will be sweet, a foretaste of that eternal rest which remains for the people of God.

When you ask for peaceful sleep, you are touching on something far deeper than a quiet night. You are asking for the very rest that God has promised His people, a rest that can possess your heart even while your head is on the pillow. A racing mind filled with stress and anxiety does not come from the life God intends for you. It comes from carrying a weight you were never designed to bear.

The promise of rest still stands. It is a rest that was finished from the foundation of the world, secured by Jesus and His completed work on the cross. The only way to enter it is through simple belief. It is not found by trying harder to calm yourself, by solving every problem before you close your eyes, or by waiting for God to show you the entire plan so you can finally relax. That is the rest of works, and it will always escape you. The rest of faith means ceasing from your own efforts right now, because Jesus did it all. There remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, and you are invited to step into it tonight.

Often we only truly lean on God when we have exhausted every other resource. We fret, we scheme, we replay conversations, and only when we are completely spent do we finally say, “Lord, I rest on You.” But He is teaching you to come to that place sooner, as soon as the anxieties knock. Do not harden your heart with unbelief, refusing to believe that He will carry what concerns you. It is a tragic thing to have the promise of rest and yet be filled with turmoil. Let there be a holy fear within you that you would miss this gift simply because you would not trust Him.

For those who have believed, we do enter that rest. So as you lay down tonight, lay down every burden at the same time. When you sleep, let that sleep be your declaration that God is sovereign and good, and that you are not Him. The wicked may not sleep unless they do mischief, but the beloved of the Lord dwell safely. You can sleep in the woods of this uncertain world because He is the keeper. His law is light, and His presence is your peace. Stop saying it is too hard to rest in faith. The only place you will ever truly rest is in faith. Trust Him, and let His perfect peace dissolve the stress. He will cause the showers of blessing to come in their season; your task tonight is simply to rest in the One who never slumbers.
