Multitudinous Thoughts and Sacred Comforts
True peace comes from God’s comforts, which calm and delight the soul even amid overwhelming thoughts.
Your faithful love and burden for your son comes through so clearly in this prayer, and the Lord sees and hears the cry of a parent's heart. Like Leah who named her sons out of her affliction saying God has seen me and God has heard me, the Lord sees your family, He hears your prayers for your son, and He knows your son completely, just as He knew the man born blind and just as He knows each of His children by name.

I join with you in praying for your son's peace, especially in the night. Scripture shows us that God often draws near in sleep and exhaustion. When Jacob was weary from his journey he slept and dreamed of a ladder set on the earth reaching to heaven with the Lord above it, a picture that heaven is not far from us and that God watches over His people even as they rest. We ask the Lord to grant your son calm and undisturbed sleep, to quiet fear and confusion and torment, and to let him wake refreshed and filled with peace and joy. We pray that his meals, his routines, his activities and his times with caregivers would be settled and gentle, and that any physical discomfort would be healed by the Lord's mercy. By His wounds we are healed, and we ask for that healing to touch your son's mind, body and spirit, including the challenges of autism, anxiety and sensory distress.

Above all we rest our hope on Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God. He is not a created being but the eternal Son, and the Father's love for Him is the greatest love we can imagine. That is why Abraham being asked to offer Isaac, his only son whom he loved, points us to what God Himself later did when He gave His only Son for us. The only way any of us can be accepted by God is in His Son. He who has the Son has life, and there is no other way into the fold. Others may try to come by another way, but Jesus alone is the door. When Jesus asked, Do you believe on the Son of God, the answer is to look to Him and trust Him as He speaks to us now in His Word. We pray your son and your whole household will be kept close to Christ, clothed in the full armor God provides, the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God, and surrounded by His protection so that no weapon formed against him will prosper.

We also pray for your family bonds, especially between your son and his sisters, and for wisdom, patience and discernment for you and for every caregiver God provides. The Scriptures speak so tenderly as a father to a son, saying My son, hear the instruction of your father, and they remind us that whom the Lord loves He corrects as a father the son in whom He delights. That correction is not rejection but proof that we are His sons and daughters. Like the father who ran to his returning son while he was still in his filthy condition, embraced him and kissed him, put sandals on his feet as a sign he was a son and not a servant, and made merry because his son who was lost was found, so our heavenly Father receives us with compassion when we come to Him through Jesus. May He restore unity in your home, remove division and harmful influences, and fill your household with His light so that darkness has no place. Where two or three agree in His name He is present, and we agree together now asking for His peace that surpasses all understanding to guard your hearts, for godly friendships and help for your son, and for wisdom in every decision and meeting concerning his care. May the Lord make your son a reflection of His love and grace, kept in His favor and joy day and night.
