Beloved of All
Your prayer for your son comes from a deep and faithful love, and it is a gift to stand with you in it. The Lord sees his struggle tonight and He hears your cry. Like the mother who named her sons to remember that God had seen her affliction and heard her sorrow, you can be sure that God sees what your son is going through at this meal and in these restless, anxious moments, and He hears every prayer you offer for him.
The greatest peace we can know begins with peace with God, and that peace comes only through His Son. There is no other way into the fold. Trying to come another way is like a thief trying to climb in some other way, but Jesus is the only begotten Son of God, not a created being, and He alone is the way. He that has the Son has life. Through Him, heaven has been opened to earth, like a ladder set between heaven and earth with the Lord Himself at the top, present and watching over us. Because your son is held in Christ, he is not far from God but brought near as a beloved child.
That is the heart of the Father toward him. When a son had wasted everything and came home filthy and broken, his father did not wait for him to clean himself up or to earn his place back as a servant. He ran to him, embraced him and covered him with kisses while he was still in that state, and put sandals on his feet as a sign that he was still a son, not a servant. Then he called for a celebration because his son who was lost had been found. That is how God sees your son, not defined by autism, anxiety, sensory challenges or rigid habits, but as a dear son to be embraced, clothed and restored.
We pray now for the peace that only God can give. Scripture says God will keep in perfect peace the one whose mind is stayed on Him, because that person trusts in Him. Jesus said to His disciples, my peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you, not as the world gives. The world offers distraction or temporary calm, but the peace of Christ quiets the heart even when circumstances are still difficult. May that peace guard your son tonight. May it settle his mind and body at mealtime, calm his nervous system, ease any physical discomfort or pain, and quiet fear, torment, confusion and frustration. We ask that every spirit of fear would bow to the name of Jesus and leave, and that your son would be filled instead with clarity, joy, gratefulness and rest.
We ask for healing in his mind, body and spirit, trusting the promise that by the wounds of Jesus we are healed. We pray that he will eat in peace, sleep without disturbance, and wake refreshed and strengthened. We speak calm over his schedule, his routines, his activities and his relationships. May he be able to adjust with more ease, communicate with gentleness and confidence, and find satisfaction in what he does.
We also pray for you and for all who care for him. May God bind His Word upon your hearts so that when you go it leads you, when you sleep it keeps you, and when you awake it speaks to you. May He give you wisdom, patience and discernment to do what is right and helpful, and may He provide godly, gentle and dedicated caregivers and friends who bring out the best in him. We ask that the Lord surround your son and your household with His protection, that no weapon formed against you will prosper, and that He clothe you all with the armor He provides, the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the readiness of the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit which is His Word. May His angels encamp around you and guard you in all your ways.
We thank God for the more peaceful days He has already granted and for the victories He has won. We agree together in prayer, trusting the promise that where two or three are gathered in His name He is in the midst. We ask that He would replace setbacks with blessing, surround your son with favor like a shield, restore and strengthen the bonds between him and his siblings in love and unity, and make your home full of His calm, joy and safety. May your son increasingly reflect the light and grace of Christ in all he does, and may you all rest tonight in the peace that surpasses all understanding.
