Chrysostom
Beloved of All
Your longing for quiet tonight is heard, and I join you in asking Jesus for mercy and rest.
The night was made by God as a haven for our weariness, a solace for our woes and a medicine for our wounds. He has bound sleep to our nature for our good, so that even when cares press hard we may be renewed. And while you lie awake and on edge from the noise around you, remember the promise that He who keeps Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps. You may be kept awake, but He is awake with you, guarding you.
I pray that the Lord will quiet what disturbs you tonight, that He will move on those around you to be considerate and to keep peace, and that He will calm your heart within. There is an outward peace when the world is quiet, and there is an inward peace when the soul rests in Christ. The Lord Jesus says, Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Bring this very weariness and restlessness to Him now.
May God grant you a quiet and peaceable night, settle your thoughts, guard your heart, and give you sleep according to His mercy. May He keep your foot from being moved and let you wake restored. In the name of Jesus, who is our peace, Amen.
