Your words carry the weight of a fierce and painful battle, and I want you to know that you are not alone in it. What you describe, thoughts and desires that feel alien and abominable, intruding where they were never welcomed before, is a clear mark of the enemy’s attack on your mind. The spiritual war is waged there, in the realm of your imagination and your thoughts. Satan aims to captivate your mind with lies that would shake your identity and your faith. Until you recognize the source, the assault can feel like a verdict on who you are. But it is not. It is a weapon thrown at you from outside, not a truth rising up from within.
You were created in the image of God, gifted with self-determination, with the profound capacity to choose and to love what is good. That image is not erased by the foul intrusions of the enemy. Even now, when your mind feels polluted and your heart bruised, the Spirit of God is at work to conform you into the image of Jesus Christ. The renewal you long for, the healing of your heart and the restoration of how you see yourself, is exactly what He has promised to do. It is not by your own effort or your own purity of thought that you are saved and changed, but by His mercy, through the washing of regeneration and the renewing of the Holy Spirit.
In the thick of such an attack, the natural reaction is to fight in the flesh, to try to push thoughts down, to feel ashamed, to doubt your very self. But these reactions exhaust you without bringing victory. The battle is spiritual, and the strength you need is not your own inner reserve. When you are weak, then you are strong, because His strength is made perfect in your weakness. Look to Him to strengthen you in your inner person. Recognize that this is an assault of the enemy, and once you do, you can resist it by turning away from the lies and toward the truth that God has spoken over you.
What you fill your mind with matters deeply. A mind left unguarded will replay whatever has been planted there. I urge you to saturate your thoughts with the Word of God. Let Scripture be a defense against the enemy and a weapon to pull down strongholds. Fill your ears and heart with worship that fixes your gaze on Christ. When your mind is occupied with the things of God, His promises, His character, His finished work, the Spirit produces life, joy, and peace. That is the mind of the Spirit. And that mind was in Christ Jesus, who emptied Himself for you and who now intercedes for you as your faithful High Priest.
Let this mind be in you. Do not let the enemy’s injected filth define your identity. You are not the sum of your thoughts under attack. You belong to Jesus, sealed by His blood, and that blood speaks a better word than any accusation. I will pray for you, that the lies of the enemy would not succeed in shaking your faith or your sense of who you are, and that the image of Christ would shine more brightly in you than ever before. As you fix your eyes on Him, with unveiled face, you are being changed from glory to glory into that same image. The renewal you seek is already at work. Stand firm, and let the peace of Christ rule in your heart.
