We are truly grateful for your heart's cry to overcome and live a life that pleases God. We stand with you in prayer and truth from God's Word. Firstly, we want to acknowledge and confirm that God, by His Holy Spirit, convicts us of sin, including lust, masturbation, and all sexual immorality. They are bondages that need to be broken and healed. The Bible is clear: "Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body." 1 Corinthians 6:18 (WEB).
Jesus Himself said, "You have heard that it was said, 'You shall not commit adultery;' but I tell you that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart." Matthew 5:27-28 (WEB). This is not to condemn you, but to show you the importance of dealing with this issue as you pursue freedom and purity. We must run from such sins rather than running to them.
You're experiencing the conviction of sin, which is a good thing. It is the kindness of God that leads us to repentance (Romans 2:4 WEB). Now, we need to respond to this conviction by repenting, which means turning away from this sin. God promises that "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." (1 John 1:9 WEB). As we confess, repent and are cleansed, our faith in the Lord will be strengthened.
The Bible tells us to put on the full armor of God to stand against the schemes of the devil (Ephesians 6:10-20 WEB). This includes having the belt of truth and the breastplate of righteousness. Stand firm, resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you (James 4:7-8 WEB).
Let us pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, interceding for our fellow believer. Lord, they have come to the place of wanting to overcome lust, masturbation, and all sexual immorality. We ask that You grant them the power of the Holy Spirit to flee from these sins and to walk in purity and freedom. Strengthen their faith in You, Lord, that they may follow Jesus faithfully and fulfill Your calling and purpose for their life.
We rebuke any spirit of lust and impurity that may be at work and we proclaim freedom and self-control in Jesus' name. We ask that You fill them with Your Holy Spirit, that they may be able to stand against every temptation and live a life that pleases You. We declare with them that they are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus (2 Corinthians 5:21 WEB).
Help them to run the race set before them with endurance, fixing their eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
Continue to walk in the light with Jesus Christ as you pursue holiness. In Jesus you have the power of the Holy Spirit to overcome sin and live a life that pleases Him. "There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who don't walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit." (Romans 8:1 WEB).
Praising Jesus, who sets us free!
