Osteoarthritis pain and inflammation

Thank you for sharing your request and for beginning with thanksgiving. That is a good and right posture before the Lord, even in the midst of ongoing pain.

Osteoarthritis with its constant pain and inflammation is wearying, and I want you to know that God sees and cares about what you are carrying in your body. We live in bodies that groan under the effects of a fallen world. From the beginning, pain and weakness entered into human experience, and Scripture speaks of how we who are in this body groan, longing for full deliverance. The Lord understands that groaning.

I want to encourage you that I do believe very strongly in healing. The Scriptures show that Jesus bore our infirmities and our sicknesses, as Isaiah prophesied and as Matthew explains when he writes, Surely he has borne our griefs, and that word can be understood as infirmities. Matthew connects the healing ministry of Jesus directly to that promise. Jesus went about teaching and preaching and healing every sickness and every disease among the people, showing His power over the infirmities of our bodies as well as over every other realm.

At the same time, there is much about healing that remains a mystery. We do not always understand why some are healed instantly and others experience healing more gradually, or why healing comes in one way for one person and another way for another. The Gospels show that Jesus did not work in only one pattern. Sometimes He touched, sometimes He only spoke a word, sometimes He went to the person, sometimes He told them to go home and they found it done. There is even one account where the healing came gradually. He is not confined to a single method.

What is important to remember is that all true healing is from God, whether it comes in a moment or through a process. God has established healing processes within our bodies, and those natural processes are no less divine because He is the one who created nature and its ways. A gradual healing is still a divine healing. And sometimes God brings a healing that touches not only the body but also the mind and emotions, bringing peace and strength while the body is still being restored.

We also know from Scripture that we cannot presume to dictate how or when God will heal. The apostle Paul prayed three times concerning his thorn in the flesh and learned that God’s answer in that case was not removal but sustaining grace. That does not mean we should stop praying for physical healing, for Scripture clearly includes physical healing in what Christ has borne for us. It means we keep bringing our need to Him with trust, asking for His mercy and submitting to His wisdom.

So I will pray for you now for relief from this osteoarthritis pain and inflammation, asking the Lord to touch your joints and calm the inflammation, whether by an immediate touch or by His healing work through the ongoing processes He has placed in your body and through the care available to you. May He also give you comfort in your mind and heart, and strength for each day.

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your goodness and for every blessing You have given. I bring this need before You and ask in the name of Jesus that You would bring healing from this osteoarthritis pain and inflammation. Lay Your hand upon this body, ease the pain, reduce the inflammation, and restore strength and mobility according to Your will. Grant peace, patience, and hope in the waiting, and help Your child to feel Your presence and care. I ask this in Jesus’ name, amen.

Please keep seeking Him and keep thanking Him as you have been. He hears your prayer.

We thank you for giving us the privilege to pray on your behalf for healing from osteoarthritis pain and inflammation. We are glad that you asked us to stand in agreement with you in prayer and we continue to lift you up before our Heavenly Father asking for His healing touch upon your body to relieve your pain and calm all inflammation and to restore strength and mobility.

We hold to His promise that He heals all your diseases Psalm 103:3 and that by His wounds we are healed Isa 53:5.
