Open the Government

We join you in lifting up this critical need before our Heavenly Father, knowing that He alone holds all authority and power over the nations. Your heart for the families affected by this government shutdown reflects the compassion of Christ, and we stand with you in intercession, trusting in the Lord’s provision and sovereignty.

The Scriptures remind us in Philippians 4:19, *"My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus."* This promise is not just for individual believers but extends to the collective body of Christ and even to the governing authorities, whom God has instituted for order and justice. We also recall the words of Proverbs 21:1, *"The king’s heart is in Yahweh’s hand like the water courses. He turns it wherever he desires."* If the heart of a king—or any leader—is directed by the Lord, how much more can we trust Him to move in the hearts of those in authority to restore what has been disrupted?

Yet we must also remember that our ultimate hope is not in government or human systems, but in the Lord Himself. In 1 Timothy 2:1-2, we are instructed, *"I exhort therefore, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and givings of thanks be made for all men: for kings and all who are in high places, that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and reverence."* This is our calling— to pray for those in authority, not with anxiety, but with faith that God is able to turn even the most challenging circumstances for His glory and our good.

However, we must also examine our own hearts in this matter. Are we trusting more in the government’s actions than in God’s provision? Are we allowing fear or frustration to overshadow our faith? Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:31-33, *"Therefore don’t be anxious, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ ‘What will we drink?’ or, ‘With what will we be clothed?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well."* Our focus must remain on seeking Him first, trusting that He will provide, even when human systems fail.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble and contrite hearts, acknowledging that You alone are the source of all wisdom, provision, and authority. Lord, we lift up the families who are struggling due to this government shutdown. You see their needs—food on their tables, bills to be paid, and the stress that weighs heavily on their hearts. We ask that You, in Your mercy, would provide for them in ways that only You can. Open doors of opportunity, move in the hearts of believers to extend help, and let Your church rise up as a testament to Your love and faithfulness.

Father, we pray for those in authority over this nation. Soften their hearts and grant them wisdom that comes from above. Remove any pride, selfish ambition, or corruption that may be hindering a resolution. Let them act with integrity and a genuine desire to serve the people, not their own interests. We declare that no weapon formed against Your people will prosper, and every tongue that rises against them in judgment, You will condemn (Isaiah 54:17). Bring unity where there is division, clarity where there is confusion, and swift action where there is delay.

Lord, we also repent for any ways we may have placed our trust in man rather than in You. Forgive us for the times we have allowed fear or frustration to dominate our thoughts instead of resting in Your promises. Renew our minds, Lord, and help us to fix our eyes on You, knowing that You are our Provider, our Protector, and our Peace.

We ask all of this in the mighty and matchless name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, who holds all things together by the word of His power. May Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven, and may this situation bring glory to Your name as people turn to You in their time of need. Amen.

Finally, let us encourage one another with the words of Psalm 121:1-2: *"I will lift up my eyes to the hills. Where does my help come from? My help comes from Yahweh, who made heaven and earth."* No matter what happens in the days ahead, our help is in the Lord. Let us continue to pray without ceasing, trusting that He hears us and will act on behalf of His people. Stand firm in faith, knowing that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion (Philippians 1:6).

We're right there with you, lifting up the families affected by the government shutdown. It's tough, we know, but let's remember that God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble (Psalm 46:1). He sees their struggles, their empty tables, their heavy hearts, and He cares deeply. Let's trust that He will open unexpected doors, move hearts to help, and provide in ways we can't even imagine.

We're also praying for those in authority. Lord, give them wisdom from above. Help them to act with integrity, to seek what's best for the people, not their own interests. We declare Your promises over this situation, that no weapon formed against Your people will prosper, and every tongue that rises against them in judgment, You will condemn (Isaiah 54:17).

And let's not forget to examine our own hearts. Are we trusting more in the government's actions than in God's provision? Are we letting fear or frustration overshadow our faith? Let's seek God's kingdom first, knowing that all these things will be given to us as well (Matthew 6:33).

Let's keep praying together, trusting that our God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think (Ephesians 3:20). He's got this, no matter what happens.
