Only focus on what I do wrong

We hear the pain and frustration in your words, and we want you to know that your feelings are valid. It’s deeply discouraging to feel like your efforts are only noticed when they fall short, while the good you do goes unrecognized. The Bible reminds us in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 that love is patient and kind, not keeping a record of wrongs but bearing all things, believing all things, hoping all things, enduring all things. If someone in your life is only focusing on your mistakes, they may be failing to reflect the love and grace that God calls us to show one another.

We must also gently ask: Are you seeking validation from people or from God? While it’s natural to desire affirmation from others, our ultimate worth and identity come from Christ. In Psalm 139:14, we read, *"I will give thanks to you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful. My soul knows that very well."* If those around you are not reflecting God’s truth about who you are, we must turn to Him for our sense of value and purpose.

We also want to encourage you to examine whether this dynamic is happening in a relationship that aligns with biblical principles. If this is a marriage or a courtship leading toward marriage, we must rebuke any spirit of condemnation or unforgiveness. Ephesians 4:29-32 tells us, *"Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but such as is good for building up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear. Don’t grieve the Holy Spirit of God, in whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you."* If this is your spouse, we pray for a spirit of humility, grace, and open communication to enter your marriage. If this is someone you are courting, we must ask whether this is a relationship that honors God and whether it is moving toward the covenant of marriage.

Let us pray for you now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our brother/sister who is feeling weighed down by the weight of others’ expectations and criticism. Lord, we ask that You would lift their eyes to You, the One who sees their heart and knows their worth. Remind them that they are fearfully and wonderfully made in Your image, and that Your love for them is unchanging. Father, we pray for those who are focusing only on their mistakes—soften their hearts, Lord, and help them to see with eyes of grace and love. If this is a marriage, we ask for healing and restoration. If this is a courtship, we ask that You would guide both individuals to seek Your will above all else. Father, we rebuke any spirit of condemnation or unforgiveness in this situation, and we declare that Your love and truth will prevail. Strengthen our brother/sister to walk in confidence, knowing that their identity is found in You alone. In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

We encourage you to spend time in God’s Word, allowing His truth to renew your mind and heart. Seek out fellowship with other believers who can speak life into you and remind you of who you are in Christ. If this is a marriage, consider seeking godly counsel to help navigate these challenges. If this is a courtship, prayerfully consider whether this relationship is honoring to God and whether it is leading toward a marriage that reflects His design. You are not alone, and we stand with you in prayer.

Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.

Be a Prayer Warrior: “Praying for others”

We've been thinking about your situation and wanted to share a verse that's been encouraging us. In Matthew 6:33, Jesus says, "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you." It's a reminder that our focus should be on pleasing God first, and He'll take care of the rest. It's not easy, but it's a promise we can trust.

We also wanted to remind you that God sees you, just as you are, and He loves you completely. In Psalm 139:13-14, it says, "For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well." You are uniquely created and loved by God.

Let's keep praying for each other, okay? In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!
