Odd Behavior From Someone In The Same House As Me

Anonymous

Beloved of All
I live in a house and rent a room. I went on one date with this guy. When we got done with our date both of us went our separate ways. No phone number exchanges nor any further communication. One day I got downstairs to wash my clothes. He opens and shuts the bedroom door after peeking out. When I came back down to get my clothes out of the dryer, same behavior. I have said hello two different times and he spoke. This past weekend he saw me in the kitchen area warming up soup and did the same exact thing. This time came out of his room with an attitude and didn’t say nothing. He turned on the stove and a few minutes later came back standing in the sitting area with his arms crossed looking at me then at the stove. When I got my clothes out I proceeded to walk by him and said nothing. I don’t trust him and his behavior is odd in my opinion. Who opens and closes a door each time someone comes near to wash or dry clothes or even be in the kitchen. Then I haven’t done nothing or said anything wrong so his behavior makes no sense. I have spoken with a couple of women and been told he has some personal issues but watch my back. So I ask prayer for protection against him because his behavior is odd which makes me uncomfortable sometimes. I pray in the name of Jesus whatever is causing him to open and close his room door each time I am near minding my business it stops. I also pray that I continue to notice but ignore him whenever we encounter one another knowing something with him is not correct in the name of Jesus. Also, protect my stuff and the other roommates in the house that could possibly be dealing with this same odd behavior in a place where it should be peaceful in the name of Jesus. Last but not least whatever issues he has whether mental or emotional I pray in the name of Jesus he receives help and healing Amen.

We hear your concern and share in your desire for peace, safety, and godly order in your home. The behavior you’ve described is indeed unsettling, and it’s wise to seek the Lord’s protection and discernment in this situation. Scripture reminds us, *"The Lord will rescue his servants. No one who takes refuge in him will be condemned"* (Psalm 34:22). We stand with you in prayer, asking God to shield you and the others in your home from any harm or disturbance.

First, we must address the foundation of your prayers—your reliance on the name of Jesus. There is power in the name of Jesus, for *"there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved"* (Acts 4:12). It is only through faith in Christ that we have access to the Father, and it is His authority that we invoke for protection, healing, and deliverance. If this man does not know Jesus, we pray that the Holy Spirit would draw him to repentance and salvation, for *"if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new"* (2 Corinthians 5:17).

Now, regarding his behavior, Scripture warns us to be *"wise as serpents and harmless as doves"* (Matthew 10:16). His actions—peering out, shutting doors abruptly, and standing with crossed arms—could stem from fear, insecurity, or even ungodly intentions. We rebuke any spirit of deception, paranoia, or ill will that may be influencing him. The Lord says, *"I will contend with those who contend with you, and I will save your children"* (Isaiah 49:25). We declare that his mind and heart would be guarded by the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7).

We also encourage you to walk in wisdom. Proverbs 4:23 instructs, *"Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it is the wellspring of life."* While you’ve done nothing wrong, it’s important to remain vigilant without allowing fear to take root. You mentioned that you’ve been advised to "watch your back"—this aligns with Scripture’s call to be sober and watchful, for *"your adversary, the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour"* (1 Peter 5:8). However, we do not operate in fear but in faith, knowing that *"God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind"* (2 Timothy 1:7).

We must also address the nature of your initial interaction with this man. You mentioned going on *one date* with him, but it’s unclear whether this was a godly courtship with the intent of marriage or simply a casual outing. If it was the latter, we gently remind you that as believers, we are called to *"flee sexual immorality"* (1 Corinthians 6:18) and to pursue relationships that honor God. Even the appearance of impropriety can give the enemy footholds in our lives (Ephesians 4:27). We encourage you to examine your heart and ensure that all your interactions—past, present, and future—align with God’s design for purity and holiness.

Now, let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, the Name above all names. We thank You for Your protection and Your promise to be a refuge for Your children. Lord, we lift up this situation to You, asking that You would surround [your sister in Christ] and her housemates with Your angels. Shield them from any harm, deception, or ungodly influence. We rebuke every spirit of fear, paranoia, or ill will that may be at work in this man’s heart. Father, we ask that You would soften his heart, reveal any areas of bondage, and draw him to repentance and salvation if he does not know You.

Lord, we declare that this home would be a place of peace, order, and godly fellowship. We pray against any confusion or strife, and we ask that You would give [your sister] wisdom in how to navigate this situation. Help her to walk in discernment, to speak with grace, and to trust in Your protection. If there is any area of her life that needs to be surrendered to You—whether in her past interactions or her current walk—we ask that You would reveal it and lead her in righteousness.

Father, we also pray for the other housemates. If they are experiencing similar discomfort, we ask that You would make them aware and give them courage to seek Your peace. Let this home be a testimony of Your goodness and a place where Your presence dwells. We thank You for hearing our prayer, and we declare that no weapon formed against Your children shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17). In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

In closing, we encourage you to continue walking in faith, not fear. Keep your eyes on the Lord, and trust that He will direct your steps. If this man’s behavior escalates or becomes threatening, do not hesitate to seek godly counsel or, if necessary, involve authorities to ensure your safety. The Lord is your strong tower—run to Him and find rest (Proverbs 18:10). May He grant you peace and clarity as you navigate this season.

We're here for you, dear friend. We've been thinking about your situation and wanted to add our voices to the prayers already lifted up for you.

Firstly, let's remember that God is always with us, even in the oddest of circumstances. In times like these, we can find comfort in His promise: "I am with you always, to the very end of the age" (Matthew 28:20). Let's trust in His constant presence and protection.

We've also been praying for wisdom for you. We believe that God will give you the discernment you need to navigate this situation. As it says in James 1:5, "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you." So, keep asking, and trust that God will guide your steps.

We're also praying for this man in your house. We ask that God would reveal any underlying issues he might be facing and draw him to repentance and healing. Let's remember that even in our prayers for protection, we can still love and pray for those who may be causing us discomfort.

Lastly, we want to encourage you to keep communicating with your housemates about this situation. Open, honest, and respectful communication can often help to clarify misunderstandings and promote peace.

May God grant you peace, wisdom, and courage as you move forward. We're praying for you, dear friend.

Thank you Heavenly Father for blessing us with another day, and for all you do for all of us. All glory and honor belongs to you Father. I lift this prayer up on your glory Father God and ask that you grant your perfect will. In Jesus name I pray. Amen

“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”

‭‭Colossians‬ ‭3‬:‭17‬ ‭NIV‬

Lord, we pray for this prayer and family for blessings healing and salvation. Heal and bless. May their lives be a praise and glory unto thee.
Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.
