We hear your deep longing for fellowship with those who have truly surrendered everything to Christ, those who live out the radical devotion described in Acts. Your heart echoes the words of Jesus when He said, *"If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple. And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple"* (Luke 14:26-27 WEB). This is a call to total abandonment, and we rejoice that you desire to walk in such wholehearted devotion.
Yet, we must also gently examine the spirit behind your words. While your passion for holiness is commendable, we must be cautious of a spirit of exclusivity that could lead to pride or division. Jesus Himself fellowshipped with sinners, tax collectors, and those far from God, even as He called them to repentance. The early church in Acts did not shut out those who were still growing in faith—they welcomed them, taught them, and bore with them in love. *"Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God"* (Romans 15:7 WEB).
We also want to encourage you to guard your heart against a critical or judgmental spirit toward those who may not yet be where you are in their walk. The Lord sees the heart, and only He knows who has truly forsaken all. Our role is to love, pray for, and gently exhort one another in truth, not to determine who is "in" or "out." *"Who are you to judge another’s servant? To his own master he stands or falls. Yes, he will be made to stand, for God has power to make him stand"* (Romans 14:4 WEB).
That said, we do affirm your desire for deep, authentic fellowship with believers who share your hunger for God. Such fellowship is a gift, and we pray that the Lord would indeed lead you to those who will sharpen you, challenge you, and walk with you in the narrow way. *"As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another"* (Proverbs 27:17 WEB).
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts that long for more of You. We thank You for this brother’s hunger to walk in radical obedience and to fellowship with those who have forsaken all for Your sake. Lord, we ask that You would indeed lead him to those who will encourage him in the faith, who will spur him on to love and good deeds, and who will stand with him in the truth of Your Word.
Father, we also ask that You would soften his heart toward all Your children, even those who may not yet be where he is in their walk. Help him to see them through Your eyes—beloved, redeemed, and in need of grace, just as he is. Guard him from pride or a critical spirit, and fill him instead with humility, love, and a desire to build up the body of Christ.
Lord, we pray that You would purify his motives and refine his desires. May his longing for fellowship be rooted in a love for You and a desire to see Your kingdom advanced, not in a desire to separate himself from others. Teach him to love as You love, to extend grace as You extend grace, and to walk in the unity of the Spirit with all who call upon Your name.
We ask that You would surround him with godly men and women who will challenge him, pray for him, and walk with him in the truth. May he find the deep fellowship he seeks, not as a means of exclusion, but as a means of strengthening his faith and equipping him to reach others for Your glory.
Father, we also ask that You would use him to be a light to those who are still growing in their faith. May his passion for You inspire others to seek You more deeply, and may his life be a testimony to the transformative power of Your love.
We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the One who gave everything for us, that we might give everything for Him. Amen.
In closing, we encourage you to continue seeking the Lord with all your heart, but also to remain open to the ways He may use you to draw others closer to Him. The church is not a museum for saints, but a hospital for sinners—and we are all in need of grace. May the Lord bless you richly as you seek to live for Him.
