Is Life Worth Living
Midnight Exploration: Fifth Night
Lions Lacking — But the Children Satisfied
We hear the frustration and weariness in your words and we join with you in bringing this burden before the Lord together in Jesus' name. The feeling of never having enough, whether it is money or time or space, is a heavy one, and it can make this world feel overwhelming and overcrowded. We understand that ache for sufficiency and for rest from constant scarcity.

The Bible speaks directly to this feeling. The world teaches us to measure by scarcity, but God teaches us to live by His provision and by contentment. We are reminded that Yahweh is my shepherd: I shall lack nothing. Psalm 23:1 and that My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19. That promise is not that we will have all we want, but that He will faithfully provide all we truly need. We also hear the call to contentment, for But godliness with contentment is great gain. 1 Timothy 6:6. When our hearts are fixed on always needing more, we can fall into anxiety and even complaining against the Lord who has already given us so much. We gently rebuke that spirit of discontent in ourselves and in you, not to shame you, but to call us all back to trust. Jesus taught us, Therefore don't be anxious, saying, 'What will we eat?', 'What will we drink?' or, 'With what will we be clothed?' For the Gentiles seek after all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first God's Kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well. Matthew 6:31-33. And we are told In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7.

We also notice that your request closes with Amen but does not mention the name of Jesus Christ. We want to lovingly share that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and that our prayers are heard. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6 and There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. To have enough, to have true peace and eternal sufficiency, we must first be reconciled to God through faith in Jesus, believing that He died for our sins and rose again, and trusting Him alone for salvation. It is in His name we pray and find every need met.

So we pray together now, Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son. We thank You that You know our needs before we ask and that You are a Father who gives good gifts. We confess our frustration and our tendency to focus on what we lack instead of on Your faithfulness. Forgive us for anxiety and for doubting Your provision. We ask that You would supply this dear one with enough of what is truly needed, enough provision for daily bread, enough time ordered by Your wisdom, and enough peace even in a crowded and noisy world. Teach us to number our days and to redeem the time You have given, to steward money and space with gratitude, and to find great gain in godliness with contentment. Guard this heart with Your peace that surpasses understanding and help us to seek Your Kingdom first, trusting that You will add what we need. Draw this one closer to Jesus, that there would be full assurance of salvation and confidence to come boldly to Your throne. We ask this in the mighty and sufficient name of Jesus Christ, our Shepherd and Provider, amen.

We hear how tiring it is to feel stretched thin on every side, as if no matter what you do there is never quite enough money, time, or breathing room. Living in a crowded, pressured world can make that scarcity feel even heavier, and we understand why you called it frustrating.

We want you to know we are praying for you, that God would meet you right in that place of need and give you a sense of enough for today. Not excess for every worry at once, but steady provision, wisdom for the decisions in front of you, and rest for your heart when the pressure builds.

One thing that sometimes helps when everything feels scarce is to name the one pressure that weighs on you most right now, whether it is finances or time or space, and bring just that one before the Lord each day this week, and if you can, share it with a trusted pastor or friend who can pray with you and think practically alongside you.

Father, we lift our friend to You in Jesus' name. You see the needs and the frustration behind them. Provide what is needed for today, grant wisdom and peace, and help them to sense Your nearness and care. Lead them step by step as they trust You. Amen.

Your honest confession of feeling pressed on every side by not enough touches a chord that many have felt, and it is brought before the Lord with compassion and prayer.

There is a truth which the Apostle learned and which every believer must learn, that contentment is one of the flowers of heaven, and if we would have it, it must be cultivated. Remember that a man's contentment is in his mind, not in the extent of his possessions. Alexander, with all the world at his feet, cries for another world to conquer, while the poorest cottage may hold a heart at peace if Christ dwells there. To have more will never of itself make the soul feel it has enough, for the heart enlarged by grace is the only vessel that can be satisfied.

You speak of money never enough, time never enough, space never enough, and the world feeling overcrowded and frustrating. Have you not found that the very anxiety which arises through your being in a difficulty unfits you to meet that difficulty. Our Lord would have us cast our care upon Him who cares for us. You have nothing to do with the ordering of all outcomes, that is His business and His to govern. You go and do the right thing and then be no longer anxious about it, but leave the result with God.

At the same time, the Scripture does not call us to idleness or to despise honest labour. I beseech you, in your humble sphere, cultivate contentment and yet be not idle. Seek, if you can, by superior skill, steady perseverance and temperate thriftiness, to raise your position as Providence permits, always looking to Him who gives power to get wealth and who numbers our days.

Consider also how innumerable are God's mercies. If you tried to count them you would find you know not the numbers thereof. Every breath, every forgiveness through the blood of Jesus Christ, every daily provision, every sparing mercy comes by way of the Cross and bears the mark of redeeming love. The mercies we overlook are often greater than the scarcities we lament.

Let us pray for you now.

O Father, who knows what we have need of before we ask, grant to this weary soul a heart taught by Thy Spirit to say with Paul, I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. Forgive murmuring and fear, and give grace to seek first Thy kingdom and Thy righteousness, trusting that all needful things shall be added. Provide daily bread, redeem the time, and make a little with Thy blessing to be enough. Teach contentment without sloth, and diligence without anxiety, and let Thy peace which passeth understanding keep heart and mind through Christ Jesus. May this dear one know that godliness with contentment is great gain, and find in Christ Himself the sufficiency that this world cannot give. Amen.
