We hear your discomfort and take it before the Lord with great concern. The workplace can often be a challenging environment, especially when relationships with coworkers feel strained or uneasy. The Bible reminds us in Romans 12:18, "If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men." This verse calls us to pursue peace, but it also acknowledges that sometimes peace is not entirely within our control. We must trust God to work in the hearts of others while we remain faithful to His principles.
It is important to examine our own hearts first. Are there ways in which we may be contributing to the discomfort, even unintentionally? Proverbs 15:1 tells us, "A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger." Our words and actions should reflect Christ, even in difficult situations. If we have wronged anyone, we must seek reconciliation, as Matthew 5:23-24 instructs: "If therefore you are offering your gift at the altar, and there remember that your brother has anything against you, leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift."
However, if the discomfort stems from ungodly behavior or attitudes in others, such as gossip, dishonesty, or immorality, we are called to stand firm in our faith without compromise. Ephesians 5:11 says, "Have no fellowship with the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but rather even reprove them." This does not mean we should be confrontational or judgmental, but we must not participate in or condone sin. Instead, we can pray for our coworkers, asking God to soften their hearts and draw them to Himself.
We also recognize that discomfort in the workplace may stem from spiritual warfare. The enemy seeks to disrupt peace and unity, but we are not ignorant of his schemes (2 Corinthians 2:11). We must put on the full armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18) to stand against the devil’s attacks. This includes girding ourselves with truth, righteousness, the gospel of peace, faith, salvation, and the Word of God. Prayer is our most powerful weapon in these battles.
Let us lift you up in prayer:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We lift up our brother/sister who is feeling uncomfortable in their workplace. Lord, we ask that You would grant them Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). Guard their heart and mind in Christ Jesus, and help them to walk in a manner worthy of their calling (Ephesians 4:1).
Father, we pray for wisdom and discernment for them. Show them how to navigate these relationships in a way that honors You. If there is any bitterness, resentment, or unforgiveness in their heart, reveal it to them, Lord, and help them to release it to You. If the discomfort is due to sin in others, give them the courage to stand firm in Your truth without compromise.
We ask that You would soften the hearts of their coworkers, Lord. If there are those who do not know You, draw them to Yourself. Let Your light shine through our brother/sister so that others may see Christ in them. If there is conflict, bring reconciliation and healing. If there is gossip or division, silence it with Your love and unity.
Lord, we also pray for protection over them. Guard them from the schemes of the enemy and surround them with Your angels. Strengthen them in their faith and remind them that they are never alone, for You are with them always (Matthew 28:20).
We declare that this workplace will be a place where Your presence is felt, where Your love is evident, and where Your peace reigns. Your disquiet of heart over your coworkers is a burden you have done well to bring before the throne of grace, for the Lord is the God of peace and He delights to calm the troubled soul. This very unease may serve to drive you nearer to Him who is our peace, for there is no solid peace to be found in the arm of flesh, nor can the world give it. Men may cry, "Peace, peace," where there is no peace, and you might be tempted to seek a false calm by smothering your conscience or making terms with sin. Beware of that lull of stupefaction which Satan employs to keep the ungodly undisturbed on their way to ruin. The peace that is a blessing, the peace which God gives, is a very different thing, it is peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, and from that living fountain flows peace within the conscience, and peace with all the circumstances of life, even those that press upon you like thronging duties and difficult companions.
The remedy for your discomfort lies not in a change of coworkers, but in having your mind stayed on God. You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You. When the heart is fixed upon Jesus and trusting wholly in His precious blood, the whisper of peace is heard within, even in this dark world of sin, even with sorrows surging round. To do the will of Jesus amid your daily toil, this is rest. Bear this trial with Him, and see what peace, what perfect peace, you will enjoy. For it is not your own peace that is to uphold you, but His peace, "My peace I give unto you," says the risen Lord. He is our peace, not our prayers, nor our repentance, though these are good in their place; the ground of your peace must never be your own performance, but Christ Himself.

Your discomfort with some coworkers is a real trial, but understand that the battle which most concerns your soul is not against them, but against the turmoil within yourself. There are three kinds of war: public war, strife with others, and the war that rages inside a person. This last is the most dangerous. If your soul is at peace with God, no external annoyance can truly harm you. When the body wars against the soul, stirring up irritation or resentment, that is where the wound festers. So do not let your discomfort rule your inner state. Turn instead to prayer, for prayer is a mighty weapon. It stills the tempest of the heart. Seek from God His own peace, a peace that surpasses all understanding, not the fragile peace the world gives. And pray also for those coworkers, that you may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. The Lord hears you always, even before you speak. His grace is with you, and He will soon crush every disturbance under your feet. Go into each day having first made God gracious to you through prayer, and you will face every trial with cheerfulness. Amen.

It can be deeply unsettling to spend your days in a place where you feel uncomfortable with the people around you, and I will certainly pray for you. That kind of tension has a way of stealing your rest and filling your mind with turmoil. But there is a promise woven through Scripture that speaks directly to that inner unrest: God offers you a peace that stands guard over your heart and mind, no matter what the environment around you looks like.
Before we can really know that peace in our daily battles, we have to start with the foundation. There is no true, lasting peace if we are still at war with God. We all naturally live in a state of rebellion, running from Him, and that produces a deep, hidden conflict in the soul. The only way that war stops is through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. He made peace by His blood, dealing with the sin that separated us from Him. When you turn your life over to Him and receive His forgiveness, the war ends right there. You are no longer fighting against God; you belong to Him, and that brings a deep, quiet rest in your spirit that nothing else can touch.
But there is more. Once you have peace with God, He wants you to experience the peace of God in the middle of your troubled circumstances, like this struggle at work. This is a specific gift. The promise is that God will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Him. The key isn’t trying to force a calm feeling; it’s a deliberate turning of your thoughts away from the chaos and onto the Lord Himself. As your mind is fixed on Him, trusting that He is in control and that He cares for you, His peace begins to flood your heart. It’s a peace that passes all human understanding, because the world can’t figure out how you can be so steady when you’re surrounded by strife.
So as you go to work, practice this. When you feel that knot of anxiety or discomfort tightening in your chest, deliberately shift your focus. Remind yourself of who God is. Tell Him, “Lord, I trust You to take care of this. I trust You with these coworkers. I trust You with my place here.” That active trust is what quiets the inner storm.
