Chrysostom
Beloved of All
We have heard your request about this difficult hour on the train, with the loud voices and phones of students and the unpleasant smell from the toilet, and we join you in prayer for the hour that remains.
These small afflictions test patience, and patience as Scripture teaches is to endure without being troubled, to bear what is present while keeping hope fixed on Christ. The peace the Lord gives is not merely quiet around us but quiet within us, a peace that can keep the heart steady even when the surroundings are noisy and burdensome. When we ask for the angel of peace, we ask for what binds together all good things and makes even a heavy hour lighter.
Let us pray together. Father in heaven, we thank You that You hear us in every place, even on a crowded train. Grant calm to this traveler and help to endure this hour with patience and grace. Grant quietness and consideration to the young people nearby and to all on the train, and grant relief from what offends the senses. Fill this heart with Your peace which the world cannot give, that there may be inner stillness even while there is outward noise. Sustain with hope and keep from all trouble and distress, and bring safely to the destination. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Use this remaining hour to turn your heart to Him in quiet prayer, remembering that He is near and that He crowns those who wait on Him with patience.
