Your cry has come up before the Lord, and He has heard the voice of your supplication. The promise, “No weapon formed against you shall prosper,” stands sure to every soul that is sheltered in Christ Jesus. But know this: the weapon may be formed, the furnace may be heated, the storm may blow, yet it shall not prosper. It shall not undo you, for you are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation. He is your refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Yet see that you do not trust in the bare words like a charm, but flee to the Word made flesh. Christ Himself is your city of refuge, and the avenger of blood cannot touch you once you are within those walls. Neither sin, nor Satan, nor death can destroy the soul that is hidden with Christ in God.
You ask for love, faith, strength, and protection. These are not scattered blessings to be gathered by your own arm. They are in the Lord Jesus, and He gives them freely to those who wait upon Him. The strength of the creature will fail; the might of the flesh will wither like grass. All strength apart from God is derived strength and must come to an end. But those who wait upon the Lord renew their strength. They mount up with wings as eagles; they run and are not weary, they walk and faint not. Is there no might in you? That is the very condition for receiving His strength, He gives power to the faint, and to them that have no might He increases strength. Fling yourself, then, upon this divine strength, and lay hold upon it by faith. The Lord is the glory of your strength, for without Him you have none.
Protection over your life and your family is a lawful petition, but remember, the ultimate security is not from temporal harm but from eternal ruin. The worst the enemy can do is slay the body, but after that he has no more that he can do. Death is an enemy, the last enemy, but it is a vanquished foe. In Christ, there is a shelter even when the red lightning flashes from the hand of God at the last day. Fear not the face of man, nor the roaring of the accuser. He has said, “I will never leave you, nor forsake you.” What more could you ask? No supposable danger, no imaginable trouble, no conceivable difficulty can swallow up that promise.
Yet you ask protection from the wicked and your enemies. It is no small thing to have foes, but neither is it a strange thing. Think on patient Job: the enemy was baffled at every turn, not because Job was strong, but because God set a hedge about him. Let it be your ambition, not to be well-spoken of by all, but to be so kept by your Father that you sin not with your lips, nor charge God foolishly. Breathe the prayer, “Holy Father, keep me as Your dear child, serving You with all my heart, soul, and strength.” And trust that He who has begun the good work will perform it until the day of Christ.
There is no limit to the promise. Come as you are, without strength, and believe that Christ died for the ungodly. In Him there is no hope, yet hope. All other refuges are lies, and all human armaments are vanity. The wisdom of words, the power of self, the ceremonies of religion, these are all weakness if the Cross of Christ be made of no effect. Your victory lies in this: that Jesus has triumphed, and you are in Him. Go on, then, speaking of His name, acting in His fear, suffering in His fellowship. Breast the wave, Christian! The Lord will bring you to the other shore, and there no weapon forged against you shall ever rise again. Amen.
