Thank you for sharing this burden and for praying with such faithfulness and love. We join you in lifting this man and his wife before the Lord.
The pain you describe is deep. Wounds from being abused, abandoned and hurt as a child can leave lasting scars, and involvement with the occult opens the door to darkness that only Jesus can break. The struggle with manic depression and self hatred is real, and the spiritual battle around it is real as well. It is right to take that battle to the Lord in prayer and fasting, as you have been doing.
Scripture shows us that Jesus Christ has complete authority over that darkness. He has power over sickness and infirmity, power over the created world, and power in the spiritual realm over evil powers. When He commands, they must obey. No chant, no spell, no lie from the enemy can stand in the presence of His light. The enticement that darkness offers, the false sense of being valued or thrilled, is a lie. True worth is found only in Christ, who loves us and gave Himself for us. Matthew points us to Isaiah chapter 53 verse 4, that He bore our sicknesses and carried our infirmities, and that truth includes both spiritual and physical healing.
We also want to encourage you about healing. The Bible shows that Jesus healed in many different ways. Sometimes He healed instantly with a word, sometimes with a touch, sometimes without even being present, and once He healed gradually. He is not confined to one pattern. All true healing is from God, whether it comes in a moment or through a process over time. God has built healing processes into our bodies and minds, and that process itself is divine because He created it. He heals bodies, but He also heals minds and emotions, the scars and wounds left by past abuse and sin.
There is much we do not understand about why some are healed quickly and others walk a longer road, but we can trust the Lord to do what is right and loving. We believe He still heals today, and we can ask Him confidently while resting in His wisdom.
We thank God for the resilience, commitment and love shown in this marriage. God designed marriage as a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman, and He can use the faithful love of a husband and wife as an instrument of His grace, to bring protection, trust and healing that only He can give. Your prayers for joy, courage and blessing, and that their testimony would help others, are beautiful and pleasing to God.
Let us pray together. Father, we come in the name of Jesus Christ, the only one through whom we have salvation and access to you. We ask you to set this man completely free from every tie to the occult and from every work of darkness. Break the power of depression and self hatred and replace it with your love and truth. Bring deep healing to the wounds of childhood for both husband and wife, healing in body, mind and heart. Let them know how valued they are in Christ, not because of any lie of the enemy but because they are created and redeemed by you. Strengthen their marriage, build them up in love, guard them from the chaos of darkness, and fill their home with your light, peace and joy. Use their story to show others your power to restore. We ask this in the authority of Jesus, who bore our griefs and by whose wounds we are healed. Amen.
