New manager

Big change happening at my work. Coworker that likes to slack off is already trying to get close with the new manager. Pray for her discernment. To see through him. He has stolen, he lies and takes credit for others work and he is usually hiding on his phone somewhere. He is a good worker when managers are there but please help pray for her discernment in this and to catch on quickly. Pray in Jesus name amen.

We join you in prayer over this big change at your workplace and we understand the frustration of watching someone be dishonest and take credit while others work faithfully. We bring this before the Lord together and ask for His justice, truth and peace to rule in this situation.

We pray first for your new manager, that God would give her wisdom and discernment beyond what can be seen on the surface. We ask that God would give her an understanding heart to discern between good and evil as in 1 Kings 3:9, and we claim the promise in James 1:5 that if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. We pray she will not be swayed by flattery or first impressions, but will see character and diligence over time, for there is nothing covered up that will not be revealed, nor hidden that will not be known as in Luke 12:2.

We also lift up your coworker before the Lord. What you have described, stealing, lying, taking credit for others work, and working only when eyes are on him, is sin before God and harms others. Prov 12:22 says lying lips are an abomination to Yahweh, but those who do the truth are his delight. And Eph 4:28 says let him who stole steal no more, but rather let him labor, producing with his hands something that is good, that he may have something to give to him who has need. We pray that God would convict his heart, lead him to repentance, and turn him from eye service to honest labor. We pray as in Eph 6:6 not in the way of service only when eyes are on you, as men pleasers, but as servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart.

For you, we pray for peace and for strength to continue working heartily as for the Lord and not for men as in Col 3:23. We encourage you to guard your own heart against bitterness or gossip, to speak truth when asked with grace and honesty, and to trust that God sees all that is done in secret and will bring what is hidden into the light in His perfect timing. Continue to be faithful, diligent and above reproach so that your own work testifies to your integrity.

Father, we lift this workplace to You. Grant this new manager clear discernment, wisdom and the ability to see through flattery and deception quickly. Expose what needs to be exposed in love and truth, protect those who labor honestly, and bring conviction and change to the one who has been dishonest. Help our brother or sister who requested prayer to rest in You, to work unto You, and to show Christlike character even when it is difficult. Let truth and fairness prevail in this workplace for Your glory. We pray all of this together in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, amen.

We can hear how unsettling this change has been for you. A new manager brings so much uncertainty, and it is especially hard to watch someone who has been cutting corners, hiding work and taking credit, try to make a strong first impression while you and others have been carrying the load.

It makes sense you want her to see clearly and quickly, and that you care about fairness for the whole team.

Discernment often grows as a leader has time to see patterns day to day, not just first impressions. The most steady help you can offer right now is to keep doing your own work with quiet consistency and let that faithfulness speak over time, without getting pulled into talking about your coworker behind his back.

One practical step that helps in this kind of transition is to keep a brief private note of your own tasks and contributions, just dates and what was completed, not to build a case against anyone but so you can answer clearly and calmly if you are asked about work. Staying approachable and reliable gives your new manager room to learn the team at her own pace.

Father, we lift this new manager to You and ask for wisdom and clarity for her as she gets to know each person on the team. We pray for peace and steadiness for our friend in this waiting period, for strength to keep working with honesty even when it feels discouraging, and that what is true will become clear in Your timing. Guide this workplace toward what is good and fair. In Jesus' name, amen.

We have heard your request and we join you in bringing it before the Lord, who sees what is done in secret and who judges with unimpeachable justice.

It is a heavy burden when you labour faithfully and another seeks to hide sloth and falsehood behind flattering words, taking credit for what is not his own and doing good work only when eyes are upon him. Be assured that nothing is hidden from Him who is both slow to anger and just in all His ways. As we have often considered, the lictor of divine justice carries his axe bound up in rods, for the Lord is slow to anger and gives space for reproof and repentance, yet He will not at all acquit the wicked. He permits time for a man to turn, but He does not call evil good, nor will He let falsehood stand forever. Where men may be deceived for a season, the Judge of all the earth will do right, and in His time He will right the wrongs and make the truth plain.

We pray with you and for you.

Our gracious Father, Thou who art just and the justifier of them that believe in Jesus, look upon this workplace in this season of change. Grant to this new manager a spirit of wisdom and discernment, that she may not judge by appearance or by flattering speech, but may see with clear eyes and weigh actions with fairness. Bring to light what has been done in darkness, and let truth and honest labour be honoured. We ask that Thou wouldst work in the heart of this fellow labourer who has walked in deceit and sloth, to convince him of his sin, to bring him to repentance and to faith in Christ, in whom alone justice has been satisfied and pardon may be found. For the one who has brought this request, grant patience, integrity and peace. Keep him from bitterness and from rendering evil for evil. Help him to work heartily as unto Thee, to speak truth in love when it is required, and to leave vindication in Thy hands, trusting that Thou wilt in Thine own way and time vindicate righteousness. Let Thy will be done, and let Thy name be honoured in that place.

We commit this matter to Thy sovereign and holy care, asking that justice and mercy may both be seen, and that all hearts may be drawn to walk uprightly before Thee. In the name of Jesus Christ our Substitute and Advocate, amen.
