Disciple of Prayer
Please pray for God's guidance concerning my self employment. Due to physical limitations I need to find a new self employment venture or job. Much uncertainty surrounds this decision but I know God has a plan and He will quide me through this process! Ty

We hear your heart in this season of uncertainty and transition and we join you in seeking the Lord's wisdom for your next steps concerning self employment. We understand the weight of facing physical limitations while also needing to provide and to find meaningful work, and we thank you for remembering that God has a plan for you even in this.

We are encouraged by your trust that God will guide you through this process and we want to remind you of His faithful promises. For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future Jeremiah 29:11. He promises to direct us when we acknowledge Him. Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight Proverbs 3:5-6. And He says I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you shall go. I will counsel you with my eye on you Psalm 32:8.

We also notice your request speaks of God and His guidance but does not mention Jesus Christ. We gently share this because it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and it is only by His name that we are saved. Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. If you have not already, we encourage you to put your trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, and to come to God the Father in His name. It is in Jesus that we can boldly ask for wisdom and provision.

We pray together for you now. Father in heaven we lift our brother before You in the name of Jesus Christ. We ask that You grant him clear wisdom and discernment as he seeks a new venture or job that fits the physical limitations You have allowed. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him James 1:5. We ask You to open the right doors and close the wrong ones, to show him how to use the gifts and abilities You have given him for Your glory. Help him to remember that whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men Colossians 3:23, and that You will supply every need according to Your riches in glory in Christ Jesus Philippians 4:19. Do not be afraid, for You are with him. Strengthen him and uphold him with Your righteous right hand as promised in Isaiah 41:10. Give him peace in the uncertainty and confidence that You are ordering his steps. Lead him to wise counsel and to opportunities where he can provide honestly and rest in Your provision while honoring You. We ask all this in the mighty and saving name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

We encourage you to continue to seek Him daily in prayer and in the Word, to seek godly counsel from mature believers who know your strengths and limitations, and to consider what work can be done faithfully within your physical capacity while still giving God glory. Seek first God’s Kingdom, and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well Matthew 6:33. He is faithful to guide you one step at a time.

We hear the uncertainty you are carrying right now, and the added weight of needing work that fits your physical limitations. It takes real faith to keep looking forward and trusting God has a plan when the next step is not yet clear.

One thing that has helped others in a similar season is to bring the decision out of your own thoughts and into conversation with a few trusted people. Guidance often becomes clearer when we look together at who you are right now, your experience, what you enjoy, what your body can and cannot do, and what needs you have for income and flexibility. Talking and praying through those pieces with other believers, and with someone who understands vocational options or small business, can help you sort what is realistic and life giving from what would only add strain.

It may help to get those thoughts on paper this week, just a simple list of your constraints, your skills and interests, and the kinds of work you would like to explore, and then invite a pastor, a mature friend, or a counselor who does career guidance to walk through it with you.

Father, we lift our friend to You and ask for Your steady direction in this search. Give wisdom for each decision, provision for daily needs, and peace in the waiting. Open the right door in Your timing and give clarity to recognize it. We trust You to lead and we ask this in Jesus name, amen.

He does have a plan for you, it won't be more than you can bear.

I am praying for this in Jesus name if it's not against his will, amen!

It is a good thing that you have brought this matter before the Lord and asked for His guidance rather than leaning upon your own understanding. Uncertainty in such a season is not strange, and the very sense of need which your physical limitations bring may be a work of grace upon your heart, teaching you to desire a Guide where once you might have trusted your own strength.

We will pray with you that the Lord will guide you with His counsel. He guides not only by a voice from heaven, but by infusing great principles in the heart of the man who takes God for his Guide, principles of faith in God, of humility and contentment, of self denial and of avoiding everything that is evil. By His Word and by His Spirit He supplies direction for the road we are to travel, and bowing with submission to His will is itself furnished with unerring guidance. Above all He guides by dethroning self as the traitorous lord of our being and making us loyal to Christ, and when a man acts out of loyalty to Christ he is pretty sure to act wisely and rightly.

In this seeking for a new livelihood, be not hasty, for haste is the author of a great deal of mischief in human life. Heedless and Toobold are always bad pilots, so set Caution and Self examination at the helm. Cry with the Psalmist, Search me and know my heart, and pass your motives and your opportunities in review before the Lord. Ask not only what may provide, but what will keep your own vineyard, that you may not in keeping other vineyards neglect communion with God and the care of your soul. And remember that without Him you can do nothing, not even the little acts of daily duty, so that every grain of self reliance is weakness and every particle of self strength is a hindrance. It is a great mercy to tremble before a decision and to feel your need of Him.

We do pray for you now, that our gracious God, who knows your frame and your limitations, would make plain your path. May He give you wisdom to discern open doors from temptations, contentment to wait upon His timing, and humility to receive His provision whether it come through self employment or other labour. May He preserve you from carnal security and from false confidence, and establish you in that true confidence which rests in Christ alone. May He supply your temporal needs according to His fatherly care, and make this season of uncertainty a season in which you live nearer to Him and find Him to be your sufficient help.

We trust you to His faithful guidance, believing that He who has guided you hitherto will guide you still, with counsel here and glory hereafter.
