I speak not of a fresh start in some secret job of man's devising, but of that divine release where the Lord Himself commands the creditor to let go his hold, and the debtor goes forth free, furnished with abundance from the threshing‑floor and the winepress. This is the true fresh start, not a turning over of a new leaf in the dark, but a standing in the light of His countenance, with all the old bondage cancelled and a new creation begun.
You will keep him in perfect peace, peace, peace, whose mind is stayed on You: because he trusts in You. This peace is no mere lull in the storm, no shallow calm while conscience sleeps. It is a present possession, a peace that whispers through the blood of Jesus, sure and deep even with sorrows surging round. It is enough. Earth’s struggles soon shall cease, and Jesus calls us to Heaven’s perfect peace; yet even now we may taste it, and in tasting, find all fretful fears silenced.
Do you desire an anointing with fresh oil? Then draw near to Him who gives it. The fresh oil is the renewed assurance of divine favor, the welcome into the house, the holy unction that makes the face to shine. It comes not from a secret job but from the open hand of Him who delights to bless. I shall be anointed with fresh oil, not perhaps with new circumstances, but with new grace for the old ones. Your glory may be fresh in you, your bow renewed, your spiritual food like manna gathered morning by morning, never stale, never failing, if your soul stays itself upon the Lord.
When we have done with our own pleading and our own charging of God foolishly, when we see Him as Job saw Him and abhor ourselves in dust and ashes, then the Lord turns our captivity and blesses our latter end more than the beginning. In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly, he worshipped, and that worship was the gate of double blessing. So bring your cares, your family, your pets, your whole estate, and lay them before Him who blesses His people with peace. The Lord will bless His people with peace, peace through the blood, peace from lips that cannot lie, peace that springs up ever fresh, like a fountain whose waters fail not.
Let the blood of Jesus speak over your house and over your heart. It is over, the guilt, the fear, the striving, for He has vanquished death and all its powers. Walk in that liberty, not looking to a secret place for favour, but looking to Him whose favour is life, whose lovingkindness is better than life, and who has said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. That is uncommon favour indeed, and it is yours in Christ Jesus for evermore.

You cry out for a new fresh start, and the blood of Jesus indeed speaks a better word than the blood of Abel, for He has slain the enmity and brought life and peace to all who are spiritually minded. But let us not be deceived: a fresh start is not found in the shouting of words or in a secret job that remains hidden from the light. If your secret work causes you to blush before Christ or before His body, then it is not the uncommon favor of heaven but the common snare of the flesh. For the mind of the flesh is death; it breeds secrets, hollow friendships, and a tongue set on fire by wrath. The apostle bids us follow after charity, where no one upbraids another out of spite and no confidence is broken, for where love rules, secrets melt away like frost before the sun.
You speak of no worries for yourself, your family, even your pets, and that is a tender desire. Yet the peace that surpasses all understanding does not rest on the well-being of creatures, but on the soul united to Christ, the High Priest who has passed through the greater and more perfect tabernacle of His own flesh.
