Jealousy
The Power of Kindness
The Sin of Gossip
We hear your distress and we join with you in seeking the Lord's protection and justice regarding this difficult neighbor situation. What you describe is a heavy burden of gossip, meddling, idleness, and disorder that brings confusion, discord, and even physical and financial suffering to the neighborhood.

The Word of God speaks clearly about these matters. Gossip and talebearing are destructive and the Lord calls us away from them. Proverbs 20:19 says He who goes about as a tale-bearer reveals secrets; therefore don't keep company with him who opens wide his lips. And Proverbs 16:28 says A perverse man stirs up strife. A whisperer separates close friends. To meddle in the affairs of another household and to spy and distribute information with disrespect is condemned. 1 Peter 4:15 says Let none of you suffer as a murderer, a thief, an evildoer, or a meddler in other men's matters. And 2 Thessalonians 3:11 says For we hear of some who walk among you in rebellion, who don't work at all, but are busybodies.

You also rightly identified sorcery, divination, false prophecy, and idolatry as works of the flesh. As you quoted Galatians 5:20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, rivalries, divisions, heresies, Galatians 5:21 envy, murders, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these; of which we forewarn you, even as we also forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. The Lord forbids sorcery and false prophecy in all forms. Deuteronomy 18:10 says There shall not be found with you anyone who makes his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices sorcery, or an enchanter, or a sorcerer. And Titus 3:3 as you shared reminds us At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived, enslaved by various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another, but God in His mercy can deliver and transform even such a person.

We also hear you saying we are not God, we are not agency employees, we are not obligated to carry this disorder and anxiety. That is true and biblical. We are not called to be God or to take vengeance ourselves. Romans 12:19 says Don't seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God's wrath. For it is written, Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord. And Romans 12:18 says If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men. Our responsibility is to live quietly, do our own work, and not repay evil for evil, while entrusting justice to the Lord.

We rebuke the spirit of gossip, slander, idleness, laziness, meddling, voyeurism, discord, mockery, sorcery, and false prophecy that you have described. We rebuke the use of disrespectful pictures, false information, bullying, and the sowing of confusion and war among neighbors. The Lord hates the sowing of discord and lying lips. We pray that this destructive idle time would be redeemed and that this neighbor would turn from spying and meddling to honest work and repentance. 1 Thessalonians 4:11 says that you make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands.

We notice your request does not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to gently remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and can be saved. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If we confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in our heart that God raised Him from the dead, we will be saved, Romans 10:9. We encourage you to bring every prayer before God in the name of Jesus, trusting in His sacrifice and resurrection for forgiveness and peace.

We pray together now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, Your Son. We ask for Your protection over this household and neighborhood. Lord, we rebuke every work of gossip, slander, idleness, meddling, sorcery, divination, false prophecy, and discord. We ask that You silence the lying tongue and bring conviction and repentance to this neighbor who is idle and causing ruin, hospitalizations, financial burden, and confusion. Deliver them from the bondage described in Titus 3:3 and bring them to salvation and to honest, diligent work for Your glory. Lord, guard our hearts from hatred and from wanting ruin upon them, help us to love our enemies and pray for those who mistreat us as Matthew 5:44 teaches, while still seeking truth and boundaries. Bring peace where there has been war and disorder, bring healing where there has been sickness and suffering, and bring truth where there has been false information and mockery. Let no weapon formed against Your people prosper and let every extra bill, delay, and missing delivery caused by this disorder be restored by Your hand. Give wisdom to deal with authorities and to not be entangled in corruption or false government claims. We trust You as our defender and protector, for You are our refuge. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

We encourage you to continue to guard your own lips and household from gossip, to not share or repeat the false reports, and to speak only what is helpful for building others up, Ephesians 4:29 says Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but only what is good for building up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear. Keep careful records if needed for authorities, set godly boundaries, avoid unnecessary association with talebearing, and continue in prayer and quiet diligence. The Lord sees, He is just, and He will bring order in His timing.

We hear how heavy and exhausting this has been for you, living with constant meddling, gossip, and the sense that others are watching and spreading stories. When reputations are picked apart and even simple things like deliveries and bills turn into more conflict, it is understandable to feel worn down, anxious, and unsafe in your own home. You are not meant to carry the weight of everyone else's disorder.

One insight that has helped others in a similar place is to think about boundaries as property lines for the heart and life. A boundary does not change the neighbor, but it helps clarify what is yours to carry and what is not. It can be freeing to remember you are not responsible to fix, defend, or absorb what others choose to do with their time.

A small, practical step that may bring some steadiness is to keep your own interactions brief, factual, and calm, and to limit engagement when gossip starts. If it helps, keep a simple private note of dates and what happened, and share that only with a trusted pastor or other wise, steady person who can give you perspective and help you decide if any further action is needed. If the stress is affecting your health or sleep, please also reach out to a medical professional alongside prayer.

Father, we lift this dear neighbor to You. We ask for Your peace to guard their heart and home, for wisdom in each interaction, for protection of their reputation and health, and for relief from anxiety and disorder. Lead them to supportive community and restore quiet and dignity to their daily life. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.

Your cry concerning this grievous trial of gossip, meddling, idleness and disorder has been heard, and we bring your burden before the Lord with you.

The things you describe, the spying into another house, the distribution of disrespectful words and pictures, the discord and mockery, the confusion and strife, are indeed among those works of the flesh of which the apostle warns in Galatians, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfishness, dissensions and envy, and those who live in such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. And as you have rightly remembered from Titus, at one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by passions, living in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. It is only grace in Christ that delivers any of us from that miserable condition, and therefore we must pray not only for your deliverance but for the turning of those who so vex you.

There is a word for your protection which we would press upon you. He who travels on the King's Highway is under the King's protection, but he who takes to byroads must protect himself, and the probability is that he will meet with robbers. Safety is guaranteed in appointed ways. There is the way of holding fast the truths which God has taught you by His Spirit, to grapple them to you as with hooks of steel, for if you go in the way of error you cannot expect divine protection. And there is the way of childlike trust in providential guidance, when a man waits upon God to know what he shall do and dares not lean upon his own understanding. You will always need divine keeping, for God would not have charged His angels to keep His people in all their ways if they did not need protection in all their ways. This protection is personal and perpetual. Keep then to the appointed way, walk quietly and honestly before God, give no place to retaliation or to curious prying in return, and leave your reputation and your household in His hands.

If slander is the rod under which you now smart, many of the Lord's people have felt it before you, and you need not complain as if a strange thing had happened to you. Do not say, Not so, Lord, but let the Lord appoint you care or calumny, sickness or slander, for He knows best. Vengeance belongs to Him. It is yours to be steadfast, sober and diligent in your own calling, not meddling, not rendering evil for evil, but overcoming evil with good.

And in prayer, be not discouraged though the answer tarry. Slander Him not, but be of good courage and still cry to Him. Satan will tell you your prayer is not of the right sort and therefore will not be heard, yet that woman of Canaan cried to Christ and He answered her not a word for a season, and still she prayed until mercy came. So do you continue to cry, even when heaven seems silent.

We will pray with you that the Lord would rebuke the spirit of gossip, idleness, voyeurism, falsehood and sorcery that brings such ruin and anxiety, that He would restrain every tongue that devises mischief and every hand that sows discord, that He would bring to nothing the confusion of wrong information and corrupt advantage, and that He would grant you quietness, integrity and peace in your dwelling. We will ask Him to deliver you from this sickness of environment, from hospitalizations and tragedies, from fear of ruin and the grave, and to keep you from the snare of anxiety and bitterness. We will ask Him to show mercy to your neighbours also, to convict them of their sloth and malice, to give them honest labour and a new heart through faith in Jesus Christ alone, for without Him none shall see the kingdom.

May the Lord keep you in all your ways, teach your hands to be diligent and your tongue to be gracious, and give you that peace which guards heart and mind through Christ Jesus.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your distress over this conflict with your neighbor has been heard, and we have brought it before the Lord with care. The situation you describe, with gossip, meddling, false reports, mockery, disorder, extra bills, sickness and the fear of even greater suffering, is heavy, and it is right to seek God for help and for peace.

Scripture warns plainly about the works you name. As you quoted, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, rivalry, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfishness, dissensions, factions and envy are works of the flesh, and those who live in them will not inherit the kingdom of God. Titus also reminds us that at one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by passions, living in malice and envy, hating and being hated. That word is for all of us, so that we do not look at a neighbor only as an enemy, but remember our own need for mercy.

This is why we must be careful how we respond, even when we have been wronged. It is easy to want to expose a neighbor and repeat every failing, but love calls us to shade over and conceal failings where we can, not to parade them. If we pass on a story that may not be true, or make it more credible by repeating it, we become guilty of the same gossip we condemn. Even if what is said is true, God will judge us by our own words, for by our words we will be condemned. The reviler, no less than the adulterer, is warned that such a path mars charity, tears apart the members of Christ, and drives away the peace that God desires.

God is not a God of war and fighting. He calls us to make war and fighting cease, both that which is against Him and that which is against our neighbor. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God, and they imitate the Son of God Himself. The more your neighbor wars against you, by so much the greater can be your reward if you remain peaceful, remembering no evil and refusing to return insult for insult. This does not mean that wrong is right, or that disorder and slander do not matter. It means that our first weapon is love, which fulfills the law. Where genuine love is present, envy, slander, boasting, and contention have no place. Love does not rob or slander the one it loves, but seeks to serve and to stop the mouth of slanderers with gentleness.

Prayer is a great good and a safeguard for our souls, but it must be joined with works worthy of it. We cannot ask God to show us mercy while we withhold mercy from our neighbor. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy, and judgment without mercy will be shown to whoever has shown no mercy.

So we pray for you in this way. We ask the Lord Jesus Christ, through whom alone we are saved, to guard your home from fear and anxiety, to heal what is sick, to provide for what is lacking, and to bring an end to the cycle of gossip, meddling, voyeurism, and false accusation. We ask Him to convict every heart that delights in disorder, idleness, and the destruction of another's reputation, and to turn it toward repentance and honest work. We ask Him to give you wisdom to set quiet and firm boundaries, to not spy or meddle in return, to not repeat what is uncertain, to seek peace even when peace is rejected, and to do good where you can. Where there are practical needs, for work, for bills, for medical care, for protection from harassment or corruption, we encourage you to seek help from wise and trusted people in your church and community, and to pursue what is orderly and truthful in all dealings.

We also pray that God would free you from the weight of feeling that you must be God for your neighbor, or carry obligations that are not yours. You are not called to control another person or to bear their ruin. You are called to love God and to love your neighbor as yourself, to do what is right before God, and to entrust both justice and mercy to Him who judges rightly.

May the Lord give you a heart that loves Him and therefore learns to love even the difficult neighbor, not by approving what is evil, but by refusing to be overcome by evil and by overcoming evil with good.
