Galatians 5:20 idolatry, sorcery, hatreds, rivalry, jealousy, outbursts of fury, acts of selfishness, dissensions, factions, 21 occasions of envy, drinking bouts, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

We hear the heaviness and distress in your request and we join with you to bring this before the Lord, seeking His justice, protection and peace. You have described a neighbor whose idleness has turned into destructive meddling, spying, gossip, bullying, the spreading of false information and disrespectful images, sowing discord and confusion, damaging reputations and businesses, creating extra financial burdens and even contributing to suffering that has led to hospitalization and great anxiety. You rightly recognize that this is not merely human conflict but spiritual disorder, and you have asked us to rebuke the spirits behind it.

Scripture is very clear about these sins. You quoted Galatians 5:20-21 which warns that idolatry, sorcery, hatred, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, rivalries, divisions, factions, envy and things like these are works of the flesh and those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. We also remember Titus 3:3 which reminds us that at one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived, enslaved by various passions and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hated and hating one another, but God in His mercy saves us. Sorcery, divination and meddling in what does not belong to us are forbidden, for it is written in Deuteronomy 18:10-12 that there shall not be found among you anyone who practices divination or sorcery, for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord.

Gossip and slander are also strongly rebuked in the Word. Leviticus 19:16 says you shall not go around as a slanderer among your people. Proverbs 16:28 says a perverse man stirs up strife, and a whisperer separates close friends. Proverbs 20:19 warns not to associate with one who is a gossip. And regarding idleness, we are taught in 2 Thessalonians 3:11 that some walk among you in rebellion, who do not work at all, but are busybodies, and in 1 Timothy 5:13 that learning to be idle, they go around from house to house, not only idle, but also gossips and busybodies, saying things which they ought not. Proverbs 12:11 reminds us that he who tills his land shall have plenty of bread, but he who chases fantasies is void of understanding.

We rebuke in the name of Jesus Christ the spirit of gossip, slander, voyeurism, laziness, strife, jealousy, sorcery and every demonic influence that seeks to transfer ruin, disgrace, confusion, financial oppression and disorder onto you and your household. We declare that no weapon that is formed against you will prosper and that the Lord is your refuge and strength. James 4:7 tells us to be subject therefore to God, but resist the devil, and he will flee from you, and 1 John 4:4 reminds us that greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world. We do not wrestle against flesh and blood alone, but against spiritual forces, and Christ has given us authority to resist them in His name as in Luke 10:19.

We also want to gently remind you that we are indeed not God and we are not called to carry a burden that only He can carry. You are not obligated to be the defender or protector of this disorder or to absorb the anxiety and false demands of others. God alone is our defender. Psalm 46:1 says God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble, and Psalm 18:2 says the Lord is our rock, our fortress and our deliverer. 1 Peter 5:7 says casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you. Philippians 4:6-7 calls us in nothing to be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, to let our requests be made known to God, and the peace of God which surpasses all understanding will guard our hearts and thoughts in Christ Jesus.

We also notice that your request does not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to lovingly share that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and that we are saved. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. Acts 4:12 says there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If you have not yet placed your trust in Him, we encourage you to believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins and rose again, and confess Him as Lord, for Romans 10:9 says that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. It is in His name that our prayers have power and that we are delivered from the works of darkness.

We pray together now.

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, asking for Your mercy and intervention. We lift up this suffering, the financial strain of extra bills and invoices, the hospitalizations, the exhaustion and the feeling of being almost crushed by disgrace and ruin. Lord, You see every hidden act, every spying eye, every mocking picture, every false word and every attempt to sow confusion and war through gossip and disorder, and we ask You to expose the lies and let truth prevail. We rebuke the spirits of idleness, gossip, slander, envy, sorcery and voyeurism and we command them to flee in Jesus name. We ask You to put a hedge of protection around this household, to guard reputation, health, finances and peace, and to prevent any transfer of ruin or tragedy. Heal those who have been wounded and hospitalized, provide for every extra financial burden according to Philippians 4:19 where You promise to supply every need according to Your riches in glory in Christ Jesus, and grant wisdom to handle false demands and corrupt dealings with integrity. Convict the neighbor who is idle and meddling, bring repentance where there is sorcery and malice, and lead that soul to turn from darkness to Your marvelous light and to seek honest work with their own hands as You command. Give us grace to not repay evil for evil, for Romans 12:19 says vengeance belongs to You, You will repay, but to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us as in Matthew 5:44, while also setting wise and godly boundaries and seeking rightful help from authorities when harassment continues. Fill this home with Your peace that passes understanding, remove anxiety and disorder, and let discord be replaced by Your order and unity. We entrust all of this into Your hands, trusting that You are our defender and judge, and we pray all these things in the saving and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

It makes sense you would feel worn down and anxious when so much disorder feels close to home.

We want to gently remind you that you are not responsible to fix or defend against everything happening around you. You are not meant to carry the weight of other people's choices, laziness, or unkindness. It is wise and good to know where your responsibility ends and to place the rest in God's hands. He sees what is true, He guards your reputation and your peace, and He is your steady security when others create confusion.

One practical step that often helps in ongoing neighbor strain is to narrow your focus to what you can steward. When possible, limit engagement with gossip, keep interactions brief and calm, and if issues affect your housing, work or safety, keep a simple private note of dates and facts to share with a trusted pastor, counselor, or appropriate local help if you need guidance. If the anxiety and physical toll have been building, we encourage you to reach out to your doctor or clinic for support as well, alongside prayer.

Father, in Jesus' name we lift our friend to You. Grant wisdom to know what is theirs to carry and what to release, protect their home and health, quiet their heart with Your peace, and lead them to trustworthy help and rest. Amen.

Your cry has been heard and the weight of this affliction is plain to see. To be beset in your own house by watching eyes, by gossip and mockery, by disorder and confusion and the ruin which follows upon idle tongues, is a sore trial. And when this is joined to the fear of loss, of mounting bills and even of the hospital and the grave, the soul is pressed down with anxiety and distress.

The word of God names truly what you have named. Idolatry, sorcery, hatred, rivalry, jealousy, outbursts of fury, selfishness, dissensions, factions, envy and such like are works of the flesh, and they that do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God, as it is written in Galatians 5:20 and 21. And Titus 3:3 reminds us that we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another. This is the origin of the conflict of which you speak. There is a war within man between the Spirit of God and the spirit of evil, and where grace is weak and the flesh is strong, there is not so much a conflict as a speedy defeat, and the fruit appears outwardly in meddling, slander, voyeurism and every form of unholy curiosity.

Concerning this idle gossip, the Scripture warns us plainly. Some professors spend far too much time in one another's houses, wasting precious hours in idle gossip and chatter, and that wastefulness becomes destructive. The tongue that distributes information with disrespectful pictures, that sows discord among neighbours and in business, that invents false lists and false accusations for advantage, does the work of the enemy of souls. As he was yet a coming, the devil threw him down and tare him, and so Satan still labours to tear and cast down by slander and confusion. Yet it is written, He is able to save to the uttermost all who come unto God by Him, and whosoever cometh He will in no wise cast out.

You speak also of anxiety, and well you may, for such disorder brings care with it. Hear then our Saviour's injunction, Do not be anxious about your temporal affairs. Be prudent and diligent, for you have no right to waste what God has given, but do not be so affected by external things as to get into a state of worry and fretfulness. I have never discovered that anxiety has comforted anybody, or that it has brought any grist to the mill, or any meal to the barrel. If a thing does not pay, what is the good of it. The very anxiety which arises through your being in a difficulty unfits you to meet that difficulty. To tell yourself over and over of the wrong, and to let anxiety be confined to yourself, brings no good. Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and He shall sustain thee.

And concerning thy neighbour, remember the command, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Thou needest no exhortation to love thyself, for thine own case will be seen to and thine own comfort will be a primary theme of thine anxiety. But the Lord calls thee to love even the troublesome neighbour, not to love his sin, but to desire his good, that he may be turned from idleness and malice to honest labour and truth. Do not cry, Not so, Lord, when slander is the rod under which you smart, for many have felt it before you, and it is not a strange thing. Let the Lord appoint what you shall bear, for He knows best, and keep thou to the King's Highway. He who travels on the King's Highway is under the King's protection, but he who takes to byroads must protect himself. There is the way of childlike trust in providential guidance, when a man waits upon God to know what he shall do and dares not lean upon his own understanding. In that way angelic protection is afforded, and this protection is perpetual as well as personal, for God would not have charged His angels to keep His people in all their ways if they did not need protection in all their ways.

Therefore let us pray together against the works of darkness and for deliverance and peace.

O Lord God Almighty, we come to Thee through Jesus Christ, who alone is able to save to the uttermost. We confess that we are not God, and we cannot by our own power defend or protect ourselves from this demanding and miserable disorder. We rebuke in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ the spirit of gossip, of slothfulness, of envy and strife, of sorcery and divination and voyeurism, and every work of the flesh that sows discord and destroys reputation. Put Thou a restraint upon the idle tongue and the meddling eye, and turn the heart that loves to spy and to mock to honest labour and to repentance.

Father, forgive us where we have lived in malice and envy, and wash us in the blood of Christ. Keep this household in Thy appointed way, under the shadow of Thy wing and under the charge of Thine angels. Deliver from the war of distraction and confusion, from unjust exactions and false accusations, from the ruin of extra bills and the fear of want. Provide for honest need, give diligence where there has been idleness, give truth where there have been lies, and give peace where there has been clamour. Teach us to be prudent and not anxious, to commit our temporal affairs to Thy providential hand, and to wait upon Thy guidance.

Grant grace to love our neighbour and yet not to partake in his sin, to speak truth without hatred, and to seek lawful and quiet means for protection without returning evil for evil. Let not anxiety reign, but let Thy peace keep our hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. And if it be Thy will, bring this troubled neighbour also to see his need of a Saviour, that he may be turned from darkness to light.

We ask this not because we are worthy, but because Christ is worthy, and He has promised that whosoever cometh unto Him He will in no wise cast out. Amen.

Abide in the way of truth which God has taught you by His own Spirit, grapple it to you as with hooks of steel, and go not into the way of error, for there you cannot expect Divine protection. Look to Christ daily, and you shall find that though the enemy tears and casts down, the Lord will deliver you from that desperate conflict and bring you through.

Your distress has been heard and we bring it before the Lord with you, for the weight you describe is heavy. You speak of a neighbor given to idleness and spying, who watches the house of another, circulates disrespectful images and false information, stirs gossip and bullying, destroys reputation, sows discord, creates confusion and disorder, and brings ruin through extra bills, delays, lost deliveries and even suffering that reaches to hospitalization and the brink of death. You speak also of meddling, false numbers and false lists, wrong demands and taking advantage of others, and of sorcery and divination. This is indeed the work of the flesh which Scripture warns against.

The Scripture you cited is true and stands as a warning. Idolatry, sorcery, hatred, rivalry, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfishness, dissensions, factions, envy and the like are works of the flesh, and those who live in them will not inherit the kingdom of God as Galatians 5:20 and 21 says. And as Titus 3:3 reminds us, at one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by passions and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hated and hating one another. Therefore we do not pray from a place of pride, but from mercy, knowing we all need the grace of Christ.

We pray that God would rebuke the spirit of gossip, slander, laziness and sorcery at work here. The Lord sees how we bite and devour one another by wronging, accusing and slandering, and how we are vexed by the good name of our neighbor. When a person wants to undermine another he often says, such a one said this, and then adds, O God forgive me, as if to excuse himself while still passing on what may not be true. If we do not believe a report, why speak it at all, why make it credible by repeating it. It is better to keep silence and be free from fear. Even if what is said were true, we will be judged by our own words, for by our words we will be condemned. A good name is better than great riches, and to injure it is unrighteousness before God.

We pray also that God would rebuke the idleness that becomes destructive. When time is given to spying, to voyeurism, to following others in and out with false meetings and pretended knowledge, to sending others to watch, that idleness bears disorder and disaster. It creates a war of distraction and mockery. But God is not a God of war and fighting. He calls us to make war and fighting to cease, both that which is against Him and that which is against our neighbor, and to be at peace with all people. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. Even when a brother wars against you, your peace becomes your reward, for nothing so delights God as to remember no evil, and nothing so sets us free from our own sins.

We understand your cry that you are not God, you are not an agency to answer every demand, and you are not obligated to carry the anxiety and disorder that another tries to place upon you. That is right. Only God is our defender and protector. You are not called to bear what belongs to Him, nor to be consumed by every false demand, wrong size, wrong number, wrong sponsor and false accusation. Cast your anxiety upon Him, for He cares for you. Do not stir up the mire again and again or remain fixed in that clay. Look up to God, who sends His Word to bring compunction to the heart and to free us from bitter and vain slavery.

Therefore we pray for you in this way. May the Lord guard your home and your household from ruin, from confusion and from every extra burden unjustly laid upon you. May He bring healing where there has been hospitalization and suffering, and comfort where there has been fear of death. May He provide honest work where there is unemployment, and deliver from the snare of idleness. May He stop the mouth of gossip, expose falsehood, and bring to nothing every act of sorcery, divination and deceit, as He once exposed Elymas the sorcerer who sought to turn others from the faith. May He give you grace not to repay evil for evil, not to pass on slander, and not to be drawn into discord, but to love what is true, to speak what is true in love, and to seek peace.

We also pray for your neighbor, that God would grant repentance, that he would turn from malice and envy, from spying and slander, from mockery and destruction, and would come to know salvation through Jesus Christ alone, for there is no other name by which we are saved. May the Lord turn his heart from idleness to useful labor, from discord to peace, from hatred to love for his neighbor.

Remain steadfast in prayer, keep watch over your own tongue and heart, do not meddle in what is not yours and do not let another meddle in what is yours beyond what is right. Seek the peace of your household, where husband and wife and family agree together, for where love is, discord finds no entrance. And trust the Lord to be your vindication, for He sees all and judges righteously.
