We have heard your cry and we stand with you in this long season of distress, grief, hospitalizations, financial suffering and the ruin that has come through a meddling and gossiping neighbor, and we bring this whole burden before the Lord together in Jesus' name.

We understand how heavy it is when someone who is idle and unemployed makes your house and your life their occupation, spying, taking disrespectful pictures, spreading information, creating gossip and discord everywhere to bully and destroy reputation. Scripture speaks very clearly about this. A perverse man stirs up strife, and a whisperer separates close friends Proverbs 16:28, and where there is no gossip, strife ceases Proverbs 26:20. The Lord also warns us about idleness and meddling, for we hear of some who walk among you in rebellion, who do not work at all, but are busybodies 2 Thessalonians 3:11, and they learn to be idle, going about from house to house. Not only idle, but also gossips and busybodies, saying things which they ought not 1 Timothy 5:13. Let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or an evildoer, or a meddler in other men's matters 1 Peter 4:15. And you rightly named the works of the flesh which include what you cited, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, rivalries, divisions, factions, envyings Galatians 5:20, and those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God Galatians 5:21. At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived, enslaved by various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hated and hating one another Titus 3:3, but God in His mercy calls us out of that.

We rebuke together the spirit of gossip, slander, voyeurism, sorcery and divination, laziness and slothfulness, and every demonic influence that would use an idle person to spy on another house, to distribute false information, to create fake meetings, false bosses, confusion over lists and sizes and numbers and ranks and sponsors, to provoke wars of distraction and disorder, to take advantage of others through corruption and increasing prices, to bring delay, missing deliveries, extra invoices and extra bills, mockery and disorder. We rebuke the lie that you must be as God for this neighbor, that you must defend or protect or carry what is demanding and unacceptable. You are not God and you are not obligated to be an agency for another person's unoccupied and destructive time. The Lord says Be still, and know that I am God Psalm 46:10, and vengeance belongs to Him Romans 12:19. We are called to love our neighbor Mark 12:31, but we are not called to let our home be consumed by another's sin.

We also want to gently point out that your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to remind you that it is only by His name that we have access to the Father and that we are saved. Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6, and there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. If you have not already, we encourage you to confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, and you will be saved Romans 10:9. It is through Jesus that our prayers are heard and our suffering has hope.

We pray together now for you. Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, and we ask for Your protection over this house, this family, and this reputation that has been attacked. Lord, command the gossip to cease, the spying and voyeurism to stop, the distribution of pictures and false information to be exposed and silenced. We ask You to rebuke every work of sorcery and every scheme of confusion and to bring order where there has been disorder and disaster. Lord, heal those who have been hospitalized and grieved nearly unto death, comfort those who mourn, and lift this long suffering that has almost brought them to the cemetery. You are close to the brokenhearted and save those who are crushed in spirit Psalm 34:18. Provide for every extra bill and financial burden, for You supply all our needs according to Your riches in glory. Bring conviction and repentance to this neighbor, turn their idle hands to honest work, that they may work with their own hands as we were commanded 1 Thessalonians 4:11 and that if anyone will not work, neither let him eat 2 Thessalonians 3:10, and deliver them from the demons of slothfulness and malice. Give our dear one wisdom to set godly boundaries, to live if it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men Romans 12:18, while not enabling sin, and to not repay evil for evil but to overcome evil with good Romans 12:21. Guard this home with Your peace that passes all understanding Philippians 4:7, and let no weapon formed against them prosper Isaiah 54:17. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, amen.

We encourage you to keep entrusting this to the Lord, to document what is necessary for protection without returning gossip for gossip, to seek wise counsel from your pastors or local authorities if the spying and harassment continues, and to pray even for the neighbor's salvation, that God would bring them from darkness to light. The Lord sees what is done in secret, He is your defender, and He will not let this suffering be wasted. Keep seeking Him daily in prayer through Jesus, and He will give you rest and restore what has been torn down.

That can look like giving yourself permission to let your yes be yes and your no be no, keeping contact brief and neutral when possible, and stepping back from direct back and forth that only fuels more disorder.

We ask for Your protection over their home and name, for wisdom in each interaction, for rest for body and mind after so much suffering, and for help from the right people nearby. There is a great weight in the sorrow you have poured out, and it has been heard with compassion. To be worn down by a neighbor given to idleness and meddling, to see a household disturbed by spying and the distribution of disrespectful pictures, to bear gossip that becomes bullying and destroys reputation, to suffer hospitalizations and grief and the ruin of extra bills and invoices that press a family almost to the grave, this is indeed a trial that would weary any soul. You are right to name these things plainly as sin, for the Scripture you have quoted names them truly, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, rivalry, jealousy, outbursts of fury, selfishness, dissensions, factions, envy and the like, of which it is written that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. And as it is written also, at one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by passions, living in malice and envy, hated and hating one another.

You have asked for a rebuke of that spirit of gossip and slothfulness and voyeurism, that demonic smile which takes delight in disorder and delay, in missing deliveries and mockery, in sowing confusion with false reports and wrong numbers and wrong lists to take advantage of another. Such idleness is destructive, for idle hands and idle tongues soon become instruments of discord, and the busybody who will not work will soon work mischief in the affairs of others. This the Lord condemns, and we join you in praying that the Lord would rebuke and restrain it.

And with that prayer there must be also a word concerning anxiety, for you speak of disorder and care that has become a heavy burden. Our Savior would not have His people to be so affected by external things as to get into a state of worry and fretfulness and distress. Be prudent and do what duty requires, but do not be anxious about your temporal affairs. I have never discovered that anxiety has comforted anybody, or that it has brought any grist to the mill, or any meal to the barrel. If a thing does not pay, what is the good of it. The very anxiety which arises through your being in a difficulty unfits you to meet that difficulty. If your anxiety is confined to yourself, no good will come of it. Tell it unto the Lord. There is the way of childlike trust in providential guidance, happy is that man who always waits upon God to know what he shall do, who asks the Lord to guide him and dares not lean upon his own understanding.

You say rightly, we are not God, we are not able to defend or protect ourselves by our own power against such demanding and miserable works. That defense belongs to the Lord. He who travels on the Kings Highway is under the Kings protection, but he who takes to byroads must protect himself. Keep then to the appointed ways of truth and holiness and prayer, and you may expect divine protection. God has charged His angels to keep His people in all their ways, and this protection is perpetual as well as personal. You will always need it, and He will not withhold it from those who walk humbly before Him. And if slander is the rod under which you are to smart, many have felt it before you, and you need not think a strange thing has happened to you. Do not cry, Not so, Lord, but let the Lord appoint what He sees fit, for He knows best, and He will make even slander to work for your good if you commit your cause to Him.

O Lord God Almighty, in the name of Jesus Christ Thy Son, through whom alone is salvation, rebuke the spirit of gossip and slander, of laziness and meddling, of sorcery and envy and malice that has brought confusion and strife into this neighborhood and household. Put to silence the tongue that devises mischief and the eye that pries as a voyeur, and convict the heart that delights in disorder. Forgive us where we too have been foolish and disobedient, and wash us in the blood of Christ. Grant to this afflicted household deliverance from this war of distraction, protection of reputation, honesty in all dealings, restoration of what has been lost or delayed, and relief from the crushing weight of extra bills and ruin. Lay Thy healing hand upon those who have been brought to hospitalization and grief, and keep them from despair. Give daily bread to those who lack work, and turn idle time to honest labor. Keep this family from fretful anxiety, and teach them to cast all their care upon Thee, for Thou carest for them. Let angels keep them in all their ways as they walk in Thy truth, and let peace rule where discord has reigned. Bring, if it be Thy will, the offending neighbor to repentance and to the knowledge of Christ, that he may cease from spying and sowing discord and may seek forgiveness. All this we ask not because we are worthy, but because Christ is worthy, and His blood pleads for sinners. Amen.

Abide then in prayer and in the Word, commit your reputation and your household to the Lord who judges righteously, repay no evil for evil, speak the truth in love, and labor quietly and honestly as God enables you. The Lord will be your defender, and He will not suffer you to be tried beyond what you are able to bear.
