The Word of God is clear about such things: *"For where envy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder and every evil practice"* (James 3:16 WEB). This neighbor’s actions align with the works of the flesh listed in Galatians 5:19-21, which include hatred, jealousy, outbursts of anger, and dissensions—all of which are warned against as things that will keep one from inheriting the kingdom of God.
First, we must address the spiritual reality at work here. The enemy seeks to use idle hands and idle minds as tools for destruction. *"The devil walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour"* (1 Peter 5:8 WEB). This neighbor’s behavior—spying, gossiping, and spreading falsehoods—is not just a personal failing but an open door for demonic influence. We rebuke in the name of Jesus Christ the spirit of gossip, the spirit of idleness, and the spirit of envy that has taken root in this situation. We command these spirits to flee and loose their hold, for *"the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world"* (1 John 4:4 WEB). We declare that no weapon formed against this household or community shall prosper, and every tongue that rises in judgment shall be condemned (Isaiah 54:17 WEB).
We also recognize the importance of confronting sin with truth and love. Scripture instructs us, *"If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone.
