Silas
Beloved of All
The turmoil you describe is deeply troubling, and it is right to bring it before the Lord. When gatherings bring disorder, invasion of privacy, and a spirit of destruction, the ache is real. Scripture does not ask you to pretend evil isn’t evil. The fear of the Lord begins with hating what He hates, and He hates the kind of deliberate harm, manipulation, and impurity you are facing. This is not a call to be bitter, but to refuse to accommodate or make peace with that which seeks to destroy.
Yet notice what hatred of evil truly means in the life of a believer. It is not a fixation on the schemes or lists of those who do wrong, nor is it returning fear for fear. The evil one would love for you to become so preoccupied with cataloging his works that your peace is swallowed up. The enemy is real, and the demonic spirits you sense will one day be incarcerated in the place of outer darkness prepared for them. They know their time is limited. But your defense is not in dissecting their sorcery; it is in the name of Jesus Christ, who has all authority, and in the shelter of the Most High.
When the wicked desire evil and their neighbor finds no favor in their eyes, the wise response is not to be consumed by their plotting but to turn away. The proverb says, “Enter not into the path of the wicked. Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it.” This does not mean you ignore what is happening, but you refuse to let their chaos set the rhythm of your soul. Fret not because of evildoers, for they shall soon be cut off. Their sleep is taken away unless they cause someone to fall, do not let that someone be you. Instead, depart from evil in your own heart. Guard your own steps, and you will find health to your body and marrow to your bones.
The invasions you suffer, the loss of peace and sleep, these are not unnoticed by God. Death has come into the windows of many homes through such predatory spirits. But you are not without armor. Stand against the forces of evil entrenched around you, put on the helmet of salvation, the breastplate of righteousness, and wield the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. Pray that psalm you quoted: “Rescue me from evil people. Protect me from those who are violent, those who plot evil in their hearts.” Let that be your cry, not a recitation of their numbers and ranks.
Do not enter their way, even in your thoughts. The path of the perverse is full of thorns and snares; he who keeps his own soul will be far from them. You are not the social sponsor for their sin, nor an agent for their employer. You are a child of God, and your dwelling is to be a fountain of living waters, not a cage for their darkness. Let your eyes turn from the spell of their evil and fix on the Lord, whose faithfulness never wavers. He warned His people again and again to turn from evil ways, that they might be forgiven and spared. Pray with hope that even those who seem to delight in harm might hear and repent, but leave their judgment to Him.
In the quiet of your own home, when the noise rises outside, let your heart sing a different song. The world apart from God is vanity, a chasing after wind, but you have been ravished by the love of Christ. Your life reflects His light, and no demonic horde can extinguish that. Though they boast of their evil and parade their schemes, the mountain of the Lord’s house will stand, and all false foundations will crumble.
So keep your soul. Hate that which is evil by clinging to what is good. Let your prayer be, “Keep me, Lord, from the evil of rebellion and disobedience,” and trust that He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. The desolation that seems so powerful now will have an end, but your inheritance is eternal. Rest in that, even when sleep is disturbed, for the Lord gives His beloved sleep in perfect peace.
