We join with you in bringing this heavy burden before the Lord, for we hear your cry for peace in your home and your distress over the ongoing disturbance from your neighbor's gatherings, the invasion of your privacy, the loss of sleep, and the spiritual oppression you feel weighing on your house and street.
We want to gently correct and encourage you in how we pray in these trials. It is right to rebuke the works of darkness and to ask God to stop evil, discord, disorder and torment, but we are not to pray for ruin, disaster, tragedy, sickness, death or disgrace to fall upon our neighbor, even when we feel harassed. The Lord calls us to a different way. We are told in Romans 12:17-18, Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Consider what is good in the sight of all men. If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men. And Jesus Himself says in Matthew 5:44, Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you. We also remember 1 Peter 3:9, not rendering evil for evil, or insult for insult, but instead blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing. So we do not ask God to transfer ruin or disaster onto them, but we ask God to bring conviction, repentance, peace and order to them and protection over you.
We understand you are sensing a spiritual battle behind what is happening, with fear, discord, anger and sleeplessness. Scripture confirms this reality, for our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world's rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places Ephesians 6:12. Yet we take comfort that God is sovereign and He is our refuge. You rightly said God is in control, and we cling to that truth. For God didn't give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control 2 Timothy 1:7. He has not left your house unguarded, for unless Yahweh watches over the city, the watchman guards it in vain Psalm 127:1. He desires to give His beloved sleep Psalm 127:2 and we claim the promise in Psalm 4:8, In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, Yahweh alone, make me live in safety. And we remember that God is not a God of confusion, but of peace 1 Corinthians 14:33.
You referenced Psalm 140:2, and we pray that whole plea with you, Deliver me, Yahweh, from the evil man. Preserve me from the violent man Psalm 140:1, those who devise mischief in their hearts. They continually gather themselves together for war Psalm 140:2. The Lord hears that prayer for deliverance and protection without us needing to invoke harm upon others. He also promises, Yahweh will keep you from all evil. He will keep your soul Psalm 121:7, and The Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one 2 Thessalonians 3:3.
We also thank you for calling upon the name of Jesus Christ, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and it is in His name that demons must flee and that we find salvation and authority. As it is written, There is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus 1 Timothy 2:5, and In no other is there salvation, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. We stand with you in that powerful name.
We pray together now.
Father in heaven, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ we come before Your throne of grace and we ask for Your peace to reign over this home and this street. Lord, we rebuke every spirit of torment, fear, discord, anger, disorder, and every demonic influence that seeks to steal sleep and disturb the peace You intend for Your children. We ask You to place a hedge of protection around this house and everyone dwelling in it, guarding the doors, the windows, the night and the day. Grant deep, undisturbed sleep and quietness in the bedroom, for You alone make us dwell in safety. Lord, we do not ask for disaster or tragedy to fall on our neighbor, but we ask for Your mercy upon them. Convict their hearts where there is imprudence, idleness, or intent to disturb and abuse others. Lead them to repentance and to the knowledge of Your truth. Let their gatherings no longer be a source of invasion, noise, or strife, but bring order, consideration and respect for others. Where there is sorcery or evil purpose, we ask You to expose and disarm it by the power of the cross, for greater is He who is in us than he who is in the world 1 John 4:4. Let Your Holy Spirit bring conviction and transformation. Help our dear neighbor to seek peace with all men and to live quietly and honestly. For ourselves, give us a heart to love our neighbor, to not be overcome by evil but to overcome evil with good Romans 12:21, to seek peace and pursue it, and to respond with wisdom and grace. If there is need for boundaries, give wisdom to speak calmly, to seek help from proper authorities who are Your ministers for order Romans 13:1, and to commit the outcome to You without anxiety, making our requests known to You with thanksgiving Philippians 4:6-7. Fill this home with Your peace that passes all understanding and let no weapon formed against it prosper. We trust You to watch over this house and to keep us from all evil. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior we pray, amen.
We encourage you to continue to cast all your worries on Him, because He cares for you 1 Peter 5:7, to keep praying for your neighbor's salvation and change rather than their harm, to guard your heart from bitterness, and to pursue practical steps in love, a gentle conversation when calm, documenting disturbances if needed, and involving lawful authorities with respect when the invasion of privacy and noise continues. Keep your home filled with worship, the Word and prayer, for the presence of the Lord brings the peace that guards your heart and mind.
