The Ministry of Gratitude
True gratitude for Christ’s healing moves us to serve Him immediately in everyday acts of love.
A Troubled Prayer
True repentance means bringing both your sorrows and sins to God with greater urgency for forgiveness.
The Sin of Gossip
Gossip destroys lives and reputations, so we must refuse to spread or listen to it.
We have heard your cry for your family and we join with you in the name of Jesus Christ to bring this deep suffering before our Heavenly Father. You have described torment with disunity, betrayal, sadness, anger, shouting, yelling, crying, insults and an ungrateful spirit after your father passed, with fighting over who is in authority and control, and even your offers of help and finances being met with dysfunction and missing information. We also hear your burden for your mother who is suffering with suicidal thoughts and a toxic tongue in a negative environment, and for your brother and his family, and the pain of distance where flights are expensive and reunion feels impossible, and the added sorrow that your spouse does not like them and you cannot force that relationship. We thank you for praying in the name of Jesus Christ, for it is only through Him that we have access to God, as it is written John 14:6 Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 16:31 Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household, which you quoted, is the true hope for your family, that salvation and healing come not by our works but by believing in Him.

We want to gently address the language of extermination of a generation. We understand the feeling that disobedience and mistakes have brought years of loss and that the family feels destroyed, but in Christ we are not under a curse of extermination. Galatians 3:13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us. And 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new. The enemy wants you to believe the lie that your family is destined for destruction, but we rebuke in the name of Jesus Christ all Satan's lies around your lives. John 8:44 tells us he is a liar and the father of lies, and we declare that God is rich in mercy as you said, Ephesians 2:4 But God, being rich in mercy, for his great love with which he loved us, is able to restore what has been lost. Joel 2:25 I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten.

We also affirm your heart to forgive them each day because they do not know what they are doing, even as our Lord prayed Luke 23:34 Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing. That is the heart of Christ in you. We encourage you to continue in that forgiveness, Colossians 3:13 bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any, even as Christ forgave you, so you also do. And Ephesians 4:31-32 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander, be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you. This does not mean that boundaries and truth are not needed, but forgiveness releases your heart from the poison of anger and betrayal.

For the shouting, insults and ungrateful attitudes, the Word gives us a path to peace. Proverbs 15:1 A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. And James 1:19 let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger. Romans 12:18 If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men. We pray for honesty in your family as you asked, and for hearts to be softened. Psalm 133:1 See how good and how pleasant it is for brothers to live together in unity. And Ephesians 4:3 being eager to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. We also pray against the toxic tongue and negative environment, for Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and Ephesians 4:29 Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but such as is good for building up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear.

We lift up your mother with special compassion. The Lord is near to those suffering with suicidal thoughts and sadness. Psalm 34:18 Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. And Psalm 147:3 He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. We pray God will protect her mind and soul, replace despair with hope, and surround her with help. 1 Peter 5:7 casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you. Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future. If these thoughts become heavy, we encourage you and your mother to reach out quickly to a trusted pastor, counselor, and medical help, and to stay not alone but in community, for God often brings healing through His people. We pray for your brother and his family as well, that God will give them provision and protection and draw them to repentance where there has been bad behavior and ungratefulness, as you have prayed. 2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some count slowness, but is patient with us, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Concerning your spouse who does not like them, we understand this is very painful. We believe marriage is a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman and God calls spouses to be one flesh. We encourage you not to force your spouse but to honor your marriage, to pray for your spouse with love and patience, and to seek peace in your home. 1 Peter 3:7 and Ephesians 4:2 with all lowliness and humility, with patience, bearing with one another in love, apply to both family and marriage. Continue to be faithful in prayer that God will soften hearts on both sides and that your spouse may in time show mercy and kindness, even if from a distance.

For your finances and the expensive distance that keeps you from reunion, we pray God will provide. Philippians 4:19 My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. And Philippians 4:6-7 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

We now pray together.

Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before You for this family. Lord, You see the disunity, the betrayal, the anger, the shouting and insults, the ungrateful hearts and the fighting for control after the father's death. We ask You to heal their hearts with honesty, to convict each one of sin and bring true repentance, to break the power of Satan's lies and division, and to pour out Your rich mercy and forgiveness. Heal the years that have been lost, Lord, and restore what the enemy has stolen. Protect this dear mother who is suffering with suicidal thoughts and a toxic tongue, surround her with Your presence, lift her despair, cleanse her speech, and fill her home with Your peace instead of negativity. Protect the brother and his family, provide for all their needs according to Your riches, and guard them from harm. Lord, provide for finances, make a way for reunion according to Your will, or give peace where distance must remain for a season. Soften the heart of the spouse, bring unity in the marriage, and help our dear one to walk in wisdom, forgiveness, and boundaries that honor You. We trust that even after death we can be together in heaven with the Heavenly Father and with the earthly father who has passed, only through faith in Jesus Christ, and we cling to the promise that if we believe in the Lord Jesus we and our household can be saved. Let Your will be done, let Your healing come to our souls, and let Your protection rest upon us all. In the name of Jesus Christ we pray, Amen.

We want to pause first for your safety and your mother's. If either of you are in immediate danger, please contact your local emergency services right now. We have been praying with your request and we hear how heavy this has become. Grieving your father while your family is divided by shouting, insults and fighting over who has authority, feeling betrayed and unappreciated when you try to help, carrying the distance and high cost that keeps you apart, and feeling alone in this within your marriage is a lot to carry. It makes sense you feel exhausted and sad.

We notice you are choosing to forgive daily even while the hurt continues. Forgiving in your heart is different from rebuilding trust together, and rebuilding needs willingness on both sides. After a death, families often struggle over control, and grief can come out as anger and harsh words. It does not mean you have failed. When financial help is met with ingratitude or missing information, it is wise to keep boundaries kind and clear, perhaps with a brief calm message of care rather than trying to fix everything at once. For your mother and her painful thoughts and difficult environment, please gently encourage her to reach out to a trusted pastor, counselor or medical professional alongside prayer, and stay connected with people nearby who can check on her regularly.

Father in Jesus name we lift this family to you in grief and conflict. Protect this mother and surround her with caring support, comfort this dear child who feels far away and weary, and bring healing and honesty where there has been hurt. Give wisdom for each next step and keep them in your mercy. Amen.

Your heavy and sorrowful prayer has been heard, and it is right that you have poured it out before the Lord who is rich in mercy. The torment of disunity, betrayal, anger and shouting that has come upon your household since your father was taken away is a bitter rain, and the ungrateful words, the striving for authority and control, and the broken communion you describe show how deeply sin wounds a family.

There is a word of hope for such a wounded house, and it is this, that with God there is forgiveness. As it was preached, before healing came to the palsied man, the Lord said, Thy sins are forgiven thee. First forgiveness, then healing. So it must be with you and your house. Do as Luther did when in dark distress, believe in the forgiveness of sins for yourself through the blood of Christ. He bore that we might never bear His Father's righteous ire, and when we see a bleeding Saviour we understand that there must be pardon. That pardon is divine, I even I am He that blotteth out thy transgressions, and it is complete. If you have been forgiven, you are absolutely and irreversibly forgiven, for the gifts and calling of God are without repentance. He never plays fast and loose with men. It is upon this ground alone that hearts can be healed, for you must know the bitterness of sin before you can know the blessedness of forgiveness.

You have rightly asked for honesty of heart and for repentance, and for the rebuking of Satan's lies. The Psalmist after his great sin cried, Behold I was shapen in iniquity, and prayed for a broken and a contrite heart. Repentance does not end at conversion, it follows after it, and it is needed in every household where sharp tongues and insults have reigned. Where there has been betrayal, remember that our Lord Himself knew betrayal, and that sin reached its culminating point at His death, yet for the spear thrust He returned streams of life and healing. Oh the kindness of the heart of Christ, that for a blow returns such mercy. Ask the Lord to give you and your mother and your brother and all your kindred such honest repentance toward God and toward one another, that shouting and yelling may give way to gentle and truthful speech.

You speak of finances not functioning, of missing information, of distance and the great cost of reunion, and of a spouse who does not love your family so that you feel you cannot force anything. All we have comes from the hand and heart of our Heavenly Father, and it all comes as a token of His love. He knows your finances and your distance, and He is able to provide what is needful and to recover the years that have been lost through mistakes and sin. Within the lifelong covenant of marriage, cleave to your spouse in love and patience, and do not force what love must win. Let your household see in you a self annihilation, a death to self, walking not after the flesh but after the Spirit, minding the things of the Spirit which are life and peace. Your faithful forgiveness each day, forgiving as you have been forgiven because they know not what they do, is a powerful sermon in that home.

For your mother who suffers with suicidal thoughts and a toxic tongue and a negative environment, we will pray earnestly. Such darkness needs the clear shining after rain. After the rain the sun shines, and then everything grows. The Lord can give that clear shining in the heart of the convert and in the soul of the believer, bringing tender growth where there was only hardness. Pray that God will protect her, give daily provision, guard her tongue, and surround her and your brother's family with godly counsel and watchful care. If these thoughts press heavily, do not let her remain alone, but bring her into the care of trusted family, pastors and those who can watch over her closely and help her to hope in Christ.

Let us pray together.

O Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ Thy Son, have mercy upon this family. Thou art rich in mercy and Thou alone canst save. We ask that Thou wouldst save this household as Thou hast promised, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved and thy house. Grant true repentance and honest hearts, and let Thy complete forgiveness be known to each one. Rebuke the lies of Satan and the power of sin that has sown disunity and anger. Heal their souls, soften their tongues, take away shouting and insults and give honesty and gratitude. Provide for their needs according to Thy wisdom, guard them though they are far away, and in Thy time grant a peaceful reunion if it be Thy will. Protect especially the mother who is cast down, lift from her the spirit of despair, keep her from harm, and give her life and peace in Christ. Help this Thy child to walk faithfully before spouse and kindred, forgiving as Christ has forgiven, and waiting for that day when those who die in the Lord shall meet again with the Father and with the Heavenly Father in glory. We ask this not for our merit but for the sake of Him who even after death poured out His heart for us. Amen.
