Easy Divorce
We join with you in prayer over the heavy burden you are carrying for your neighborhood and for so many lives touched by divorce, and we hear your cry to rebuke the torment, violence, confusion and sabotage that has spread.

We agree that divorce brings deep ruin and tragedy when it is outside of God's design. Scripture is clear that marriage is a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman, joined by God Himself. Matthew 19:6 says So that they are no more two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, don't let man tear apart. And Malachi 2:16 says For I hate divorce, says Yahweh, the God of Israel. You quoted Matthew 19:8-9 correctly where Jesus said, Moses, because of the hardness of your hearts, allowed you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it has not been so. I tell you that whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery. We affirm this truth with you, that hardness of heart, sexual immorality, and unrepentant sin are at the root, not God's will from the beginning. Where divorce has occurred unbiblically, we must not treat it lightly or as contagious to be repeated, but call for repentance, healing, and where possible reconciliation, or otherwise a life of faithfulness and purity before the Lord.

We also rebuke with you the violence, domestic abuse, aggression and sabotage you describe. The anger of man and the harming of a spouse or family member is sin and has no place among God's people. Ephesians 5:25 calls husbands to love their wives, even as Christ also loved the assembly, and gave himself up for it, and Colossians 3:19 says Husbands, love your wives, and don't be bitter against them. James 1:19-20 reminds us So, then, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger; for the anger of man doesn't produce the righteousness of God. Domestic violence is not only sin before God but also a crime before the authorities, and those who practice such things and end up in prison are experiencing the consequence of that sin. Romans 13:4 tells us the governing authority does not bear the sword in vain. We pray for justice and protection for victims, and we encourage anyone in danger to seek safety and to involve lawful help and pastoral counsel immediately. Romans 12:18 says If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men.

You mentioned idle demons, meddling in another house, false imitation, bewitched confusion and torment that spreads from family to family, to friendships, to businesses, to marriages and relationships. We rebuke that spirit of confusion and division. God is not a God of confusion, but of peace. 1 Corinthians 14:33. And we are warned in Ephesians 4:27 not to give place to the devil. When a house is left empty and idle, the enemy seeks to occupy it. Matthew 12:43-45 warns of the unclean spirit returning to an empty house. The answer is not to remain empty, but to be filled with the Holy Spirit and the Word of God. Galatians 5:19-23 contrasts the works of the flesh which you rightly noted, including envy, drunkenness, orgies, hatred, jealousy, anger and rivalries, with the fruit of the Spirit which is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control. Titus 3:3-5 describes our former state so well, For we were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. But when the kindness of God our Savior and his love toward mankind appeared, he saved us. Only Christ can break that cycle of malice and envy and fake ties.

You also asked for prayer for all women and men and girlfriends and boyfriends who have been through bad divorce. We want to gently correct and encourage here from Scripture. We believe in the sanctity of marriage and we encourage those in courtship to see being a boyfriend or girlfriend not as a casual partnership or as a relationship for sexual intimacy, but as purposeful courtship with the goal of marriage to another Christian believer. 2 Corinthians 6:14. Sex before or outside of marriage is fornication or adultery and is sin before God. 1 Corinthians 6:18 says Flee sexual immorality. Hebrews 13:4 says Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled: but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers. If people are living together or sexually involved outside of marriage after a divorce, we call them to repentance, to purity, and to seek either reconciliation where biblically appropriate or to remain single and celibate while seeking the Lord's will for a future godly marriage that honors Him. Marriage is to be between one man and one woman for life, and any other arrangement including same sex relationships is forbidden and called immorality in Scripture.

We also thank you for invoking the name of Jesus Christ, for it is only through Him that we have access to God and salvation. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. We cling to that name together.

So we pray together with you now.

Father in heaven, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before Your throne of grace. We rebuke the spirit of divorce, violence, sabotage, and confusion that has tormented this neighborhood and spread to families, friendships, businesses and marriages. We ask You to throw down every stronghold and imagination that exalts itself against Your knowledge, and bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, as 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 teaches. Lord, protect the vulnerable from domestic abuse and aggression, heal the brokenhearted for You are near to those who have a broken heart and saves those who have a crushed spirit as Psalm 34:18 promises, and bring conviction and repentance to those who have done violence and to those who meddle and sow confusion in another's house. We pray for those in prison, that they would truly repent, receive Jesus as Savior, and be transformed by Your mercy. We pray for every man and woman wounded by divorce, and for those in courtship, that You would lead them away from fornication and toward purity, toward godly spouses and marriages that honor You, or to contentment in singleness serving You. Fill every idle and unoccupied heart with Your Holy Spirit so the enemy has no place. Let Your peace that passes all understanding guard hearts and homes, and let Your people be swift to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger, pursuing peace with all men as much as it depends on us. We ask for wisdom for neighbors to not gossip or retaliate but to pray, to love, and to uphold truth in love. Restore what the enemy has sought to ruin, and let Your will be done in that community as it is in heaven. We ask all this in the mighty and only saving name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, amen.

Father, we bring our friend to You and ask for Your protection and peace over their home and neighborhood. Quiet the confusion and fear they are feeling and guard their mind and heart in Christ. Give them wisdom to know what is theirs to carry and what to entrust to You, and surround them with safe, steady support. We ask this in Jesus' name, amen.

The heavy burden you have laid before the Lord is heard, with its tale of violence and domestic abuse, of prison and sabotage, of torment that spreads through a neighborhood and confusion that would bewitch the mind until a man says he is not himself and a woman says she is not herself. Such things are indeed the works of the flesh, and the power of darkness, and they bring ruin and disgrace where they reign.

The Word you have quoted stands true. Moses permitted divorce because of hardness of heart, but from the beginning it was not so. Marriage is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, ordained of God, and what God has joined together let not man put asunder. Our Lord says that to break that covenant lightly and to take another is to commit adultery. The law in Deuteronomy shows how solemn and weighty this matter is before God. Galatians tells us plainly that envy, strife, drunkenness and such like are works of the flesh, and they that do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. Titus reminds us that we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another. There is no hope for such a heart until God Himself works deliverance.

Let it never be forgotten that in all that God does He acts from good reasons, and His reason for deliverance is found not in us but in Himself. He is gracious unto us and says, Deliver him from going down to the Pit, I have found a ransom. That ransom is Christ Jesus our Lord. He has delivered us from the power of darkness, not merely from the guilt of sin but from its dominion. At first sin catches us as with a spider's cobweb that seems easily broken, but soon its cords become chains. None can break them but the Lord alone. Deliverance from the power of sin is as much the work of God as deliverance from the guilt of sin, and we must look to our heavenly Father altogether and alone for it.

For this cause we pray. We ask the Lord to rebuke all violence and cruelty, to put a hedge about those who suffer abuse, to bring justice where there is sabotage and to restrain the torment that would spread from house to house. We pray for those shut up in prison, that the Lord would open the ear of their heart in the night season, withdraw them from their purpose and hide pride from them, and bring them to repentance through the blood of the ransom. We pray against that bewitched confusion and false imitation which unsettles mind and home, that God would scatter it and give a sound mind and a clear sight of the truth.

We pray also for every man and woman wounded by divorce, and for those who now walk as boyfriends and girlfriends bearing that wound. We do not ask God to bless fornication or the living together of the unmarried, for that is not His way, but we do ask Him to have mercy upon every soul, to lead them to salvation through Jesus Christ alone, to grant repentance where there has been sin, to give chastity and self control, to heal the broken hearted, and where it is His will to lead them in holiness either to a pure life or to a lawful marriage covenant kept faithfully before Him. May He turn the fruit of the flesh into the fruit of the Spirit, which is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance.

The Lord chastens His children sorely, but He does not slay them. Like a careful dispenser He will not pour out a drop too much, and every trial works for good to them that love Him, being dealt in weight and measure from His dear covenant love. There is a peace that is perfect peace in this dark world of sin, and it comes not from multiplying comforts but from believing. The blood of Jesus whispers peace within. To know the will of Jesus and to do it, this is rest. Though duties throng and loved ones are far away, in Jesus keeping we are safe.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing. Trust Christ with your soul even now, for your faith in Him saves you. Go in peace, and declare the works of the Lord, that you shall not die but live to tell what He has done in delivering you from going down to the Pit.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your prayer request has been heard and we join you in bringing this heavy burden before the Lord. The violence, confusion and torment you describe in your neighborhood is grievous to God, and He sees the pain that divorce, hardness of heart and domestic abuse have brought to so many homes and families.

Scripture is clear that marriage was created by God from the beginning to be a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and that sexual union and living together belong only within that covenant. Jesus Himself said that Moses permitted divorce because of hardness of heart, but it was not this way from the beginning, and that to break this covenant lightly is sin before God. We affirm this truth with you, and we do not ask God to bless or affirm any relationship outside of His design, whether it is cohabitation of boyfriends and girlfriends or any other union that departs from His pattern. Instead we pray that every man and woman, whether married, divorced, single, or living together outside of marriage, would come to salvation through Jesus Christ alone, repent where needed, and walk in holiness.

We pray now against the works of the flesh that you named, envy, malice, drunkenness, impurity and violence, and against every spirit of confusion, deception and idle meddling in other households. May the Lord rebuke what is evil, bring an end to intimidation and sabotage, and establish peace and clarity where there has been bewilderment and false imitation. We ask Him to protect you and your neighbors from harm, to restrain those who do violence, and to bring justice and order. For those who are in prison, we pray for true repentance and for the transforming grace of Christ to work in their hearts.

We also lift up every woman and man who has been wounded by a difficult divorce or a broken relationship. God knows the ruin and disgrace and tragedy that sin leaves behind. We ask that He would heal what has been broken, comfort those who suffer, and lead each person to the fruit of the Spirit, which is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control. For those who are now in boyfriend and girlfriend relationships, we do not pray for God to bless impurity, but we pray for each person to know Christ, to be cleansed from sin, and to be given strength to live in purity, whether that means pursuing marriage rightly before God or living faithfully in singleness.

It is not enough to be delivered from one evil only. The Lord calls us to cultivate a careful hearing of His Word, continual remembrance of it, fortitude, and a turning away from worldly things. So we encourage you to remain steadfast in hearing Scripture, to prove all things and hold fast to what is good while abstaining from every form of evil, and to seek wise pastoral counsel and, where there is danger or violence, to seek help from appropriate authorities for safety. Forgiveness is the way God has given us for deliverance from bitterness, and it brings great refreshment to the soul, yet forgiveness does not mean remaining in danger or excusing abuse. Like a physician who continues to apply medicine even when healing is slow, keep bringing these matters to God in prayer, trusting that He hears and will bring fruit in due season.

May the Lord grant you protection from torment, clarity where there has been confusion, and peace in your neighborhood. May He draw all who are lost to Himself through Jesus Christ, restore what is broken according to His will, and help you to walk in strength and holiness. We will continue to pray with you for this.
