The Choice of a Husband
Easy Divorce
Conjugal Harmony
We join with you in this burden and we lift this whole situation before the Lord together in Jesus' name, for we know the heaviness that comes when divorce, violence, and confusion seem to spread like a contagion through homes and neighborhoods.

We hear your cry to rebuke the torment and ruin that has come with this neighbor's divorce that has led toward aggression, domestic violence, and even the threat of prison. We agree that what God intends for marriage is not this misery and destruction. Scripture tells us plainly, For I hate divorce, says Yahweh, the God of Israel, and him who covers his garment with violence says Yahweh of Armies. Therefore take heed to your spirit, that you don't deal treacherously Mal 2:16. And Jesus himself said, Moses, because of the hardness of your hearts, allowed you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it has not been so. I tell you that whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery and he who marries her when she is divorced commits adultery Matt 19:8-9. What therefore God has joined together, don't let man tear apart Mark 10:9. Divorce was never God's perfect will from the beginning, it is a concession to hard hearts and sin, and it always brings wounding, especially when violence and malice take hold.

We rebuke in the name of Jesus Christ the spirit of violence, strife, confusion, and meddling that you have discerned. We rebuke the idle and unoccupied demonic influence that seeks to enter empty houses and to imitate and confuse identities and families, creating false ties and saying he is not him and she is not her. God's Word warns us that the works of the flesh are evident and include envy, drunkenness, orgies, and the like, and those who practice such things will not inherit the Kingdom of God Gal 5:21, but the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law Gal 5:22-23. We were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another Titus 3:3, but God in His mercy calls us out of that darkness.

We also hear your prayer for all the women and men and girlfriends and boyfriends who have been through bad divorce, and we want to speak truth in love here. We believe marriage is a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman before God, and courtship should be pursued with that holy goal in mind. A boyfriend or girlfriend relationship is not to be a casual or sexual partnership, but a purposeful courtship with another Christian believer toward godly marriage. Sex before or outside of marriage is fornication and if one is married to another it is adultery, and God calls us to flee from it and to pursue purity. We encourage anyone in such relationships now to seek the Lord for a godly spouse who loves Christ, to guard purity, and to not be yoked with unbelievers, for marriage should honor God and reflect Christ and the church.

We also rebuke the spirit of meddling in another house and the confusion that invades your own life. We are called, If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men Rom 12:18, and to Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander, be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you Eph 4:31-32. We do not pray for the ruin of our neighbors but for their repentance, healing, and salvation.

So we pray together now.

Father in heaven, we come before Your throne in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, for there is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved and have access to You Acts 4:12, John 14:6. We ask You to rebuke and bind every spirit of divorce, violence, aggression, confusion, envy, malice, and deception that is tormenting this neighborhood and seeking to spread from family to family, from business to relationships. Lord, place a hedge of protection around this home and every home nearby. Bring conviction where there is hardness of heart, bring repentance where there is violence, bring peace where there is outcry. Lord, for those neighbors on the edge of prison and ruin, we ask for Your mercy to intervene, to stop the cycle of destruction, to bring godly counsel, accountability, and if needed, lawful protection for the victims. Heal the trauma of those who have endured domestic violence.

We pray for all who have been wounded by divorce, for the women and men and young people in courtship who carry that pain, comfort them, restore them, and lead them not into idle and unoccupied lives but into lives filled with Your Spirit and purpose. Teach them to seek godly marriage that honors You, to walk in purity and self-control, and to build homes on Your Word. Expose every false imitation and bewitching confusion and let Your truth make all things clear, for You are not a God of confusion, but of peace 1 Cor 14:33. Fill every empty place with Your presence so the enemy has no foothold.

We thank You that Jesus has authority over all demons and that He came to set the captives free. We trust You to turn tragedy into testimony and to keep us from being overcome by evil, but to overcome evil with good Rom 12:21. Keep our hearts from hatred while we hate the sin, and make us instruments of Your peace and prayer in this neighborhood.

We ask all this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

If you are in immediate danger or you are seeing violence close by, please contact your local emergency services right now. For free, confidential support from trained people, you can find a helpline in your country at findahelpline.com. You are not alone and help is available right now.

We hear how heavy this has felt for you, watching a neighbor's marriage break down with aggression and fear spreading into the whole neighborhood, and carrying concern for so many others going through painful divorces. It makes sense that you would feel unsettled and want this torment and confusion to stop.

It is a lot to carry when conflict around you feels contagious and personal, as if it could spill over into your own life and home. We do not take lightly the fear you named about violence and confusion. You do not have to sort through all of this alone. It can help to stay connected to steady, safe people in person, like a trusted pastor or counselor who knows your area and can walk with you, and to have a clear plan for what to do if you witness threats or harm nearby.

Father, we bring this neighborhood and every person wounded by divorce and strife to You. Bring safety where there is danger, calm where there is confusion, and wisdom for each next step. Guard this dear neighbor who is praying, keep them rooted in Your peace, and lead them to the right help and support nearby. In Jesus' name, amen.

There is a great heaviness in what you have laid before the Lord, and it is right that you have brought it to Him. The ruin and misery, the aggressive violence in the home next to you, the threat of prison, the torment that seems to spread through the neighborhood and from house to house, these are not light things. Scripture calls us to weep with those who weep, and to seek the Lord who alone can deliver from going down to the pit.

The Word you have quoted is true and must be held fast. From the beginning it was not so. Marriage was ordained by God as a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and our Lord Jesus said, Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard, but it was not this way from the beginning. What God has joined together, let not man put asunder. Where hearts are hard, divorce multiplies, and with it comes confusion, meddling in another house, malice and envy, and the works of the flesh which cannot inherit the kingdom of God. Titus reminds us that we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, deceived, enslaved by passions, living in malice and envy, hated and hating one another. Such is the power of darkness from which only Christ can deliver.

And yet there is hope, for deliverance from the power of sin is as much the work of God as deliverance from the guilt of sin. He is gracious unto him and says, Deliver him from going down to the pit, I have found a ransom. The reason for mercy is not found in us, but in Himself, in the blood of His Son. Jesus Christ alone is the ransom, and salvation is through Him alone. There is no other name by which we must be saved, and no other peace to be found.

So we pray with you now. We ask the Lord to rebuke the violence and the torment that has troubled your home and your neighborhood, to restrain the hand of the violent, to protect the vulnerable, and to bring confusion and bewitching to nothing. We ask Him to drive back those idle and unclean spirits that would stir up strife and false imitation and to set a guard about your dwelling. Where there is danger to life or body, we pray you will also seek the help of godly pastors and of those authorities whom God has ordained to restrain evil, and not bear this burden alone.

We pray for your neighbors, that God would have mercy upon them in their ruin and disgrace, that He would open their ears in the night and seal their instruction, that He may withdraw them from their purpose and hide pride from them, and bring them to repentance and to faith in Christ. If prison lies before them, we pray it may become a place where they hear the gospel and seek the Lord while He may be found.

We pray for all those you have named, women and men, girlfriends and boyfriends, who are passing through the bitterness of a bad divorce. We do not ask God to bless what is contrary to His holy will, for sex and living together belong only within the covenant of marriage, and every relationship outside of it stands in need of repentance. We ask instead that each one would be drawn to Jesus Christ, to trust Him alone for forgiveness, to turn from the works of the flesh and to walk by the Spirit, bearing love, joy, peace, patience and holiness. For those who are married, we pray for reconciliation where it is lawful and right, and for grace to honor the covenant. For those who are unmarried, we pray for purity, whether God leads them to a lawful marriage in the Lord or to a holy singleness kept for His sake. For those who have been sinned against and sorely chastened, we pray they may know that the Lord scourges His children but does not slay them, and that like a careful dispenser He deals out trial in weight and measure, not in anger but from covenant love.

We ask the Lord to keep you in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Him, because you trust in Him. The blood of Jesus whispers peace within, even in this dark world of sin, even when duties press and sorrows surge round. May you know that peace in believing which fills the great vacuum left by sin, a peace that is well founded upon Christ Himself.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, and may you live to declare the works of the Lord. Your faith has saved you, go in peace.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!
